Kensington Palace have released a new photo of William and the children to mark his 42nd birthday. The photo was taken by Catherine.

Honestly I think this is one of my favourite photos of the family!

Well I was doing that over 50 years ago with my family.

Hardly a new fucking concept.

No really, as it contains 2 future Kings.

That comment is gonna set them off … 🤣

Well quite.

Don't count your chickens!

Ohpleeeease · 21/06/2024 18:35

I like it and it makes an excellent companion piece to the Father’s Day photo.

They didn’t release it to the media but via their Insta page, so Kate can do all the photoshopping she likes.

Was that Meghan posting?

No, I have previously said that I love the picture. I'm laughing at the extremely negative comment to a great photo. I am not a mod. Don't know if Meghan is on here.

Careful, you'll bring on someone's nausea.

It’s actually better than that version tbf

The composition is better, but it's ever so slightly out of focus (on Louis).

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 21/06/2024 18:37

It's amazing how some people can bring a mood and an atmosphere down just by turning up, isn't it?

Abouttimeforanamechange · 21/06/2024 18:38

Why are Charlotte’s shorts shorter than the boys?

Because that's the style she likes to wear?

It's not a bad photo - I'd give it 8 out of 10. Points lost for lack of definition on one of the subjects, and unoriginality of pose. Highly commended for overall composition, and noted that focusing would have been tricky given the speed at which subjects were moving.

Screamingabdabz · 21/06/2024 18:43

We tried to get a photo of my kids singularly doing this on the big sweep of Barmouth beach. We spend ages and didn’t get a single good shot. That’s pretty amazing if she caught them all the same time like that! Well done Kate - fab photo.

There is a lot to be said sometimes for the lack of originality of a pose…

Just as well Kate isn't a professional photographer then.

Best approach is to shoot as a burst and then you can pick the best one.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 21/06/2024 18:47

Someone phone KP - I bet they've been on tenterhooks all days waiting for that approval.

Why is 8/10 "highly commended"?
I think you got your marking levels all muddled.
It's a happy family picture. I've no idea why it bothers you so much.

It's a tad 'shutter stock' isn't it?

This one would have been produced by a planned photoshoot, with multiple options of clothing, many many retakes, possibly hundreds, instructions to the children on exactly how to place their arms and legs, and what expression to hold on their faces, and another reshoot if they get it wrong, a very long drawn out boring process to create a totally artificial impression of a single carefree moment

As I suspect the "royal" one was

Because some people just can't resist giving their opinion, even when no-one gives a scooby. I find that usually it's men who do that.

I expect she could have been, with the right training and practice, but of course, she didn't need to be.

Or, it was a happy family moment snapped by Kate.
You've obviously never met children if you think they'd do that hundreds of times. Why are you being so negative and unpleasant about a family photograph? Why does it bother you?
It's got under your skin like a burr under a saddle.

It doesn't bother me, I wouldn't have commended it otherwise.

'Highly commended' is usually given to things that didn't win overall, but had one or two strong elements worthy of note. It was simply a jocular way of assessing the picture, as it wasn't in a competition.
