Part 6 of positive threads, delving into all things Meghan and Harry. Whether it’s the causes they support, their business initiatives, or Meghan’s fashion choices (Harry’s too, on occasion 😉), there’s plenty to discuss Just a pro-tip - that there may be use of MLE terms and discussions of dupes - you might want to exit stage left if these things offend. This is a relatively drama free zone - let’s keep things light! Clinking a glass of lemonade 🥂 to @queentim for the original inspiration.

Sorry, another favourite look from the trip, and related to the Spencers: this necklace that Meghan is wearing was Diana's. It's very beautiful.

It must be so emotional for Harry to pass them along. I know I'd be. It's really sweet knowing that Archie and Lili will inherit these peices

Gosh her lip fillers are really noticeable when she doesn't do a full smile.

I think she looks great and appropriately dressed in a style that suits her. She also looks engaged in the video and attentive and yet you mention her lips??

AnnieSF · 16/05/2024 15:29

@Lifestooshort71 there are many articles out there about Meghan before and after cosmetic procedures and surgery and tbh I had never noticed it before but I did in this photo. Is it any different from saying women look hydrated? Yes I am commenting on how another woman looks. It's allowed.

Inkanta · 16/05/2024 15:31

The pair have some celebrity and fame, and no one, leastways outside palace circles, seems all that fussed about whether the pair are classified as “working” or “non-working” royals: “Megmania” gripped this part of west Africa, in any case. Harry is a Prince, his wife is a duchess, his dad is the king and head of the Commonwealth, and no amount of alienation or briefing can alter that

Wow good to hear that from The Independent! Warms the heart😊

That's a phrase I'd love the press to retire, for Meghan and Catherine.

I don't for a second believe they are basing their outfits on Princess Diana. It usually means 'wore spots' or 'wore blue' or something equally mundane. In this case, 'paired cream and camel' which is hardly groundbreaking.

And whilst I'm ranting I think both of them have better dress sense than she did.

Though sometimes the comparisons can be a reach, I think there are times where outfits are obviously Diana-inspired.

I think anyone today has a better dress sense than what fashion was in the 70s/80s/90s. It was terrible imo

More good press about the Nigeria trip, from Simon Perry, People's Chief Foreign Correspondent who accompanied Harry and Meghan on the trip, and generated a sh*t ton of exclusives for People.

It's nice to see how People have embraced M&H. ABC News too.

Enjoy!

"The couple was relaxed in their demeanor, confident in their mission and welcoming. On the first day, I was pleasantly surprised to be so up close, cataloging their every move. “Hot enough for you, Simon?” Harry joked as we adjusted to the 94-degree heat on our first day in Abuja. I said he must be used to it now living in California, but the heat was even tough for him. As we chatted about our flights and jetlag, Meghan said they were “hitting the ground running.”
"Meghan's resonance with the Nigerian heritage was palpable as she advocated for women's leadership alongside the formidable Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, exuding authority and clarity. "
"For Harry, the significance of the Invictus Games has evolved. Witnessing the transformative power of sports firsthand, he contemplated ways to improve access to prosthetics for wounded veterans. At a military hospital in Kaduna, Harry was just as I had seen him on many occasions before with veterans — whether it was with Walking with the Wounded or at the Invictus Games. At the hospital, he held hands with the soldiers and leaned down to speak with them — in a touching moment that evoked the memory of his late mother Princess Diana."

I so agree. I don't know what it was with those decades. Arguably, each had its own distinctive style, the 90s was probably the least offensive in my view... 😆

They were "hitting the ground running" Meghan said ? I seem to recall that phrase used before and they didn't. Is she running out of stock phrases ?

Lmfao. Luckily I missed them 😂I ended up in the bandage dress and office fits as clubwear...so maybe a bit better

Makeup trends are also infinitely better as well - no blue eyeshadow for my generation! I do like this latte makeup trend, Meghan does it well

How Harry and Meghan’s Nigerian visit was reported in Australia by the ABC (the Australian equivalent of the BBC. It was published 3 days ago. Also the article talks about Charles & Camilla’s commonwealth tour later in the year.

Harry Meghan Nigeria

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Nigerian tour is a reminder of what might have been

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's 72-hour visit to Nigeria has attracted a level of publicity Buckingham Palace has been sorely lacking of late. Is it a reminder of the "Harry-shaped hole in the monarchy?"

Thanks @Wickedlywearynamechanged - that is a surprisingly neutral/positive article from the Australian press, who, from my observations, are as doggedly negative as the British press.

oh Murdoch’s media here is pretty doggedly negative. And he owns about 60% of Australia’s news outlets I believe. Two ex Australian Prime Ministers have come together from opposite sides of the political spectrum and are working to make people more aware of Murdoch’s tactics and power. (It would have been better if they’d done something when in Office. ha)

I’ll look around and see if any of the smaller independent media have commented reflectively about the Nigerian visit.

Why is Harry always in the background if Meghan is in the picture too?

skullbabe · 17/05/2024 17:13

If we are to go by picture/portrait composition - the person who is 5'6" should not be behind the person who is 6'2" in any posed picture - it would look jarring.

I will have to disagree with characterising this as always in the case of Harry and Meghan - see several pictures directly above and many others in the previous threads.

Scotty's Little Soldiers is one of my fave non-profits that H&M and others are supporting.

I was hoping that he'd drop by to visit them when he did his Invictus 10 Yr Memorial service at St Pauls.... last week (isn't it odd how it feels like that was AGES ago???). I was delighted to see him make time to join an afternoon play-date with loads of children the charity supports.

The BBC had the exclusive, in another sign that the Sussexes are beginning to get their PR act together, and the segment featured on BBC News. There were interviews of several of the children who'd lost their military parents. Many expressed how much they valued the support they were getting, and how chuffed they were that Harry made a surprise visit to hang with them.

The CEO of Scotty's Little Soldiers thanked him for his support, and he joked about eating Maltesers from the floor.

Harry's actually become their global ambassador - not sure what that entails.

Here's the footage:

Found a nice photo!

Thanks for posting!

The two beaming young ladies in the middle are called Maryam and Purity, and they are the Youth Ambassadors for Save the Children Nigeria.

This vid has the testimony of one of them - she became an activist at the time the Chibok girls were first abducted. She raises the challenges girls face in Nigeria, including child marriage, with 3 in 10 girls married off before they're 18, and all the problems that result from that (btw, shockingly, child marriage is legal in 38 states of America, with many 'red' states fighting legislation proposing to ban the practice - shame on them!).

Such a scourge. I recall Michelle Obama and Melinda French also joining forces with Amal Clooney to fight it. It's been going on for as long as humanity's been around so it won't vanish tomorrow, but it's going to take a lot of people calling it out and trying to educate families and support girls for there to be any hope of progress... 😢

Did Harry and Meghan actually sleep on this trip? I can't believe how much they packed in!

TallerSally · 17/05/2024 17:45

Can I also say how absolutely amazing it is that most people, including those in the H&M Hatosphere such as the DM who obsessively follow their every breath, only heard about this Nigeria trip less than 3 weeks ago...

... when it has obviously been AGES in the making? A trip like this takes months and months of meticulous preparation of every minute detail and anticipation of every scenario, not least from a logistic and security standpoint.

How did they keep it under wraps, and away from the perfidious pens and vicious mouths of the hateful Murdoch/British media, for so long???

No leaks, nothing!

Well done Invictus management team, Nigerian MoD and all the non-profits, schools, businesses and other organisations involved!
