Part 6 of positive threads, delving into all things Meghan and Harry. Whether it’s the causes they support, their business initiatives, or Meghan’s fashion choices (Harry’s too, on occasion 😉), there’s plenty to discuss Just a pro-tip - that there may be use of MLE terms and discussions of dupes - you might want to exit stage left if these things offend. This is a relatively drama free zone - let’s keep things light! Clinking a glass of lemonade 🥂 to @queentim for the original inspiration.

It's a shame that the website of the duke and duchess doesn't make any reference to FGM, child brides and the sex trafficking of children. It would have been good to have highlighted these issues and spoken out publicly about them whilst in Nigeria. Bit of a missed opportunity I think.

I did wonder if Meghan was expressing her feminism by wearing revealing outfits in a conservative country in order to set an example to other Nigerian women not to follow conservative dress expectations.

I did wonder if Meghan was expressing her feminism by wearing revealing outfits in a conservative country

I must’ve missed that class in Feminism 101: “A feminist must wear revealing outfits in a conservative country“

And Feminism 102: “Feminism is all about what you’re Wearing, Y’All !!!!!”

What utter nonsense!

Princessfluffy · 21/05/2024 16:45

Just trying to give Meghan some credit y'all. It can be hard work.

skullbabe · 21/05/2024 16:59

I think giving credit where credit is due is commendable and should not be difficult to do.

Agree! Though I wonder whether people read too much meaning into everything M&H wear.

Sure, it’s of some interest in that it often looks lovely. But “meaning”?

I sometimes wish some people paid more attention to what they actually say in relation to the causes they support (as opposed to obsessing about the very little that Meghan has ever said about the RF, and the little more that Harry has said).

Meghan has spoken on women’s and girls issues on her podcasts, on numerous panels, on International Women’s Day events, etc etc.

There may be some value in listening more to what the woman actually says, vs spending time trying to read supposed secret signals in her necklaces (tribute to Diana! No! Not tribute to Diana!) the width of her straps (secret symbol of XYZ! No! Secret symbol of ABC!) or the lining of her skirts (an overhanging lining being, as we all know, a sign of deep disrespect for Queen Elizabeth, the RF and indeed the whole of Great Britain, how dare her!!!! ).

😂

Princessfluffy · 21/05/2024 18:08

Did Meghan say anything publicly whilst in Nigeria about FGM, child marriage or child sex trafficking? I can't imagine that she would have seen fit to be silent on these issues and not use her voice and platform?

skullbabe · 21/05/2024 18:22

No she did not make a speech about FGM or child marriage or child sex trafficking. I suppose Save the Children can say that her visit highlighting those things was worthless as she didn’t speak over Maryam and Purity who were highlighting and speaking about these things that affected them and just listened. Nevermind - I suppose it’s a lesson learned - one I hope will be applied to everyone who advocates for social change.

Has William ever had pen rage? Or are you getting mixed up with Charles?
Or is "pen raging" a term I don't know?

Let’s not forget the main purpose of H&M’s Nigeria visit: to promote Invictus and the causes it champions, and test the waters for a possible host in Nigeria.

Of course it made sense to seize the opportunity, where possible, to raise awareness and champion the causes they are actively working to support.

Does that mean they absolutely had to address all the problems women and girls and vets and and and face in Nigeria?

I guess so, if they’d labelled their trip “The Second Coming of the Messiah”.

Don’t think they did, though...

Maybe it's that special language that many of us don't get 😂

The problem is that most people do not want to listen to her talking about herself and how great she is, what a shining light she is to the world blah blah blah. Other than those bits she says very little that makes sense or comes over as authentic as it tends to smack of " do what I say" as opposed to " do what I do" .

skullbabe · 21/05/2024 22:27

So damned if she does and damned if she doesn’t. Oh well - I guess she’ll continue doing whatever she feels works for her because I’m sure she knows that for some, there is nothing she could ever do that was not a problem. I think that’s a reasonable approach.

@Serenster My post didn’t reach your standards obviously.

I don’t have your encyclopedic memory. I’d seen Nche Onyema’s name mentioned previously and that she is founder of GEANCO. But lazily I didn’t go and search for it for my reply. I wish I had.

When I wrote the ‘lady who greeted’ I was drawing on my memory of the first image I saw of Meghan and Harry arriving at the school on that first day. I was not my intention of ‘demoting’ her in any sense, although I can see it read that way.

You would be right to assume that I know little about Nigeria and the continent of Africa. I’ve never been there. And my country did not colonise any part of it, so it was not a part of my education. I come from the South East Asia region and know more about the former colonised, now commonwealth countries in this region.

I really don’t know a great deal about the charities Meghan and Harry are involved in - just mainly what I learn by being on here, along the way.

But I have learned that clothing styles in Nigeria are diverse and that it wasn’t generally thought rude or insensitive for Meghan to wear the clothing styles she did, which was the focus of my reply to Princess Fluffy.

It wrong of you to assume that ‘the only thing I care about is Harry and Meghan’ - you don’t know me nor do you know what I care about. My focus is more on how the media report and distort stories and for what reasons. And British tabloid media really do distort anything to do with Harry and Meghan.

Very interesting (exclusive) article in People which gets to the heart of the purpose of Harry and Meghan's Nigeria trip - Nigeria's support for the Invictus Games!

Harry Meghan and the Invictus team were shown CGI images of a potential Invictus Centre the Nigerian Gov't is proposing to build to support local veterans.

Very promising! I sincerely hope the centre moves forward and gets built. Time to get some Nigerian billionaires to contribute to the funding!

"Prince Harry has "goosebumps."
That's because he was shown the design for a groundbreaking new center that takes his worldwide help for veterans to a new level.
The tranquil-looking facility, which is proposed for Abuja, Nigeria, will provide a haven of physical and mental rehabilitation for wounded service personnel, the center's architect and the Nigerian armed forces hope.
The Duke of Sussex, 39, spoke with awe about the proposed center when computer-generated images were shown during a reception held by the Chief of Defense Staff General Christopher Musa while Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were visiting Nigeria earlier this month."
The architect of the new center, which will be a world first for the Invictus organization, Kobina Banning tells PEOPLE, “This space will be a healing place for veterans.”

Now that Nigeria is over is there any update on the jam or other products yet?

Princessfluffy · 22/05/2024 20:24

Has anyone seen The Invitation on Netflix?
This would have been such a perfect star vehicle for Meghan!

Princessfluffy · 22/05/2024 20:26

Beautiful independent young biracial American woman comes over to the UK to be welcomed into the aristocracy as a bride to untold wealth and fortune.

Princessfluffy · 22/05/2024 20:27

But the family treat her badly and she has to run away back to America

Princessfluffy · 22/05/2024 20:29

Wears a lot of beautiful backless dresses and has to have a type of wedding that she doesn't want

BemusedAmerican · 23/05/2024 00:43

@AnnieSF According to the UK tabloids, she is planning on embarking on a huge summer PR campaign. No time for jam.

Your last sentence is spot on!

Tizzwazz · 23/05/2024 02:26

Considering that heinous article written by that Jeremy ClarkSLOB creature and the countless anti Meghan media stories I am not in the least surprised that she swerves entering the UK properly. JC was probably voted to the no 1 slot because of that article. Cos sexy he sure is not!

Far more likely to be because Clarkson’s Farm is a massive hit, actually.

What? I thought the whole thing was a joke like the Boaty McBoatface vote
