Part 6 of positive threads, delving into all things Meghan and Harry. Whether it’s the causes they support, their business initiatives, or Meghan’s fashion choices (Harry’s too, on occasion 😉), there’s plenty to discuss Just a pro-tip - that there may be use of MLE terms and discussions of dupes - you might want to exit stage left if these things offend. This is a relatively drama free zone - let’s keep things light! Clinking a glass of lemonade 🥂 to @queentim for the original inspiration.

I like that casual outfit, except for the shoes. I hate pointed toes, partly because they make my feet look enormous, but also because I don't find it the most flattering shape.

Reading the article it struck me that the most positive thing for Harry and Meghan going forward would be if the press (and social media) would actually let them move forward. They obviously want to do their own thing in their own way and the constant references to what they did in the past, how working royals do things, whether he's seen his dad etc, does them no favours at all.

I don't think this constant comparison is coming from them or the working royals, it's the press and social media harping on about things that I'm pretty sure all those directly involved have moved beyond it and don't spend their time playing comparisons. If it were me I'd find it frustrating to be put in this box by the press, like parents who won't meet a child grow up, the press want to forment strife and comparison and discord that I don't see coming from anyone directly involved.

I hope that this visit to Nigeria proves to be the last gasp of comparisons and they can get on with what they want to do and to reported on as themselves alone without bringing into it the institution they chose to leave. It clearly wasn't a royal tour and I don't think they envisaged it as such.

And I love the idea of Nigerian inspired ARO products, that would make a lot of sense.

My God this is on point and I've said the same, just move on people, press etc. They clearly have and they are living their life how they want to and if they are happy that's all that really matters and they do look happy.

A bit flippery.

So nice to see M&H back home with their kids - they must be absolutely exhausted!

I am still amazed by what they, Invictus and the Nigerian government and others just pulled off. A flawless, successful quasi-presidential level tour! Who would have imagined that 4 years ago when they fled the UK!

And to return to warm words of support for Archewell by Governor of California Gavin Newsom himself…

Plus all the exciting Netflix projects and ARO and the first ever Invictus Winter Games in just 9 months…

I remember the CEO of Netflix commenting on the success of Harry & Meghan, saying people (including in the UK) watched the hell outta that show. Like Spare which became the bestselling book in UK in 2023…

No wonder H&M said in their exclusive post Nigeria interview with People: “we’re happy”

I would be too, despite everything! 😂🤩🌟

TallerSally · 15/05/2024 21:14

and I didn’t even mention “Suits” becoming the most streamed Netflix show of all time in 2023 with 58 billion viewing minutes…

(… such Hollywood losers, really!… 😆😂)

That's insane.

But Suits is a great show 👌 one of those that keeps you entertained.

Have you watched "Psych"? It was on the same network and also entertaining

cookienomstar · 15/05/2024 23:53

@TallerSally I'm happy for them, they're going from strength to strength and seem to be supported by a good group of people

Same, I've always tried to avoid pointy toe shoes (but I like the design/colour), they make my feet look huge

You should really consider more than the basic headline if you really want to understand this. This has all been discussed before ad nauseam. 🥱

Meghan back home in an apparently Princess Di-inspired outfit!

https://people.com/meghan-markle-recreates-princess-diana-iconic-blazer-white-outfit-8648829

That's a phrase I'd love the press to retire, for Meghan and Catherine.

I don't for a second believe they are basing their outfits on Princess Diana. It usually means 'wore spots' or 'wore blue' or something equally mundane. In this case, 'paired cream and camel' which is hardly groundbreaking.

And whilst I'm ranting I think both of them have better dress sense than she did.

LaMarschallin · 16/05/2024 12:47

@skullbabe

Just a pro-tip - that there may be use of MLE terms and discussions of dupes - you might want to exit stage left if these things offend.

You used this phrase in your previous thread. I noted it and said that I was interested in these terms and wasn't offended by them. Why would I - or anyone - be? I prefer "MBE" purely because it's not London-centric but it's not a big deal to me.
However no MLE terms cropped up. I mentioned this. A bit later after my post saying I'd seen no MLE you talked about ladies looking "hydrated".
It seemed odd to me as well as to other posters and I looked it up.
You told me, eventually, that it meant hydrated and moisturised is related to being non ashy with your hair laid and being generally non problematic.
So, like anyone uses the word "hydrated" I suppose and certainly not the slang term I and possibly others had found from Googling something like "hydrated slang MLE".

You also, eventually, said in reply to me in my asking about MLE terms:
there may be not there only will be in my OP. My reference to jollof was tongue in cheek as you well surmised.
I'm not sure that I "well surmised" the reference to joloff. I said that a friend from Ghana made the most delicious jollof I've ever had but I still don't really get the reference. You also quoted some Norfolk dialect which was easily Googlable. I'm not sure why but it was interesting.

You added Simples after your explanation of the term "hydrated" to me.
I'm sure you didn't mean this term to be patronising but it came across that way. Maybe it's a use I don't understand.

Anyway, there were no MLE terms in your last thread for anyone to be offended by and I really hope that no-one will be offended by such terms if they occur here.

skullbabe · 16/05/2024 13:12

It looks like H&M also visited Save the Children whilst they were in Nigeria - goodness they were busy.

Oh wow, from Save the Children UK? They were very busy indeed

I really liked that video, and it makes me so happy to see more civics-minded youth especially with how the world is

Where are they?

They were at a Save the Childen event in Abjua. Their friend Misan is the global ambassador and invited them

cookienomstar · 16/05/2024 15:14

@TallerSally I've seen several of these kinds of articles and discussions from the UK that have been along the same thread this past week.

Absolutely hysterical (by that I mean pathetic) and rolling my eyes. But this attempt at changing the narrative is so unsurprising

cookienomstar · 16/05/2024 15:20

the Westminster Abbey service to commemorate the Invictus Games, when King Charles and Harry were both present

I was so confused by this I had to Google!

The Spencer family was there to show some love and support for Harry and the Invictus Games Foundation

AnnieSF · 16/05/2024 15:22

Helpful my arse and that is massive. There are always countries who are desperate for respectability and there are always punters who are willing to buy the goods. There are always people who are dazzled by glitz and gold.
