Can this be true? That Harry and Meghan are off on a “royal” trip to Nigeria? What’s the game now? My head is spinning!

It worries me that Invictus may be being led down a road that may cause it irreparable damage. @AutumnCrow puts it so much better than me.

It is time for it to be handed to someone else.

Reorganisation and regrouping is not unknown to those in military circles. Neither are ineffectual leaders.

Not quite.

Nicole Kidman is Australian and does not hold British royal titles. She does not purport to have an 'office' related to a British royal peerage.

You are of course correct in saying that Harry and Meghan are private citizens and do not represent the Monarchy or the United Kingdom. However, they do love to blur the lines and will definitely treat this as a pseudo 'royal' tour. I think this 'tour' will be causing raised eyebrows in the FCO.

Honestly I don’t agree, they are resident in the USA, they are private citizens, they do not represent the royal family. The foreign office has enough to deal with , they won’t give a seconds thought to Harry and Megan’s antics. Their days of having that privalge are long gone.

But they will never let it go as it’s all they have that’s successful. There is nothing left if They stepped down.

How much does Harry have to do with the management of Invictus? He is Founding Patron but is not on the Board of Directors. I'm not convinced he is involved with the actual management of the organisaition. I think he mostly just turns up for the big occasions and gets all the glory, but doesn't actually do much, if any, of the behind the scenes work.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 29/04/2024 12:38

I would love to know why the very capable former number 1 and 2 heads of Invictus left so suddenly.

Runnerinthenight · 29/04/2024 12:40

I read somewhere this morning about rumblings that Mike Tindall could replace Harry? It’s become the Meghan show!

Unless God forbid something bad happened.

You may be right with regards to the day to day, hands on management, but OTOH I think there are more and more people who should be natural Invictus supporters are getting turned off the whole project by the way it seems to have become the M&H show…

A lot of people do not recognise that. Just that, as you say, he is the public face of Invictus and it is oft touted as his baby.

The problem with having a problematic public face is that it can be damaging to the brand.

And that would be a bloody shame for those who do the real work and the participants.

I agree. The Foreign Office (and the working royals) won't worry because the people with actual power in the world know who has power and should be listened to and who can be ignored.

It will create lots of fuss and headlines and online comments but one thing I think this whole Harry saga has shown is that none of those things actually give you any real power, they just give you publicity and social media likes. He has lots of publicity but nothing he does actually changes any important minds. To do that he needs to stick at something, learn about it and become a key figure whose knowledge is taken seriously, like Charles did with the environment.

ArcaneWireless · 29/04/2024 12:49

I’m not sure about Mike Tindall either.

I’d prefer to see Elizabeth Marks as the public face.

I doubt that. He's barely known outside of Britain and doesn't have enough sporting or royal status to compensate. He also has no military background that I'm aware of.

Harry is Founding Patron, so I'm not sure he could be easily replaced. And in fairness, he has done some good work with the IG, even if it's mostly the 'turn up and be applauded' type of work.

I think Meghan trailing along to every Invictus event, with frequent outfit changes and silly speeches, is the real problem. She has no role in Invictus at all, other than being married to Harry. If it was just him I don't think there would be an issue.

It would be interesting to know if Invictus was actually involved in any way with the Duke of Duchess’s tour of Nigeria, or if this is just publicity for the Nigerian military and the Sussexes. Invictus is in a tricky situation in that publicity is necessary and Harry is their patron, but if the Invictus name is merely being used as a front for a spot of mutual
backscratching, it risks bringing the organisation into disrepute 🤷‍♀️

@IcedPurple I agree that Mike Tindall couldn’t replace the Founding Patron, but I wonder whether the Invictus Board have decided that his sporting background and Royal connections are enough for him to have some role in the organization? I mean, I imagine that they can ask someone to get involved if they wish to, it won’t be Harry’s decision.

I imagine that H will be furious if they do ask MT, but he couldn’t do anything about it.

CrushingOnRubies · 29/04/2024 13:28

To the pp who suggested that the Cambridges release a previously unpublished photograph of their wedding to mark their anniversary today. Have only gone and done just that 😁😁

I don't think Mike Tindall would be an asset to the IG. As I say, he has no military background and his sporting achievements are well in the past.

As for his 'royal connections' I don't think anyone with such connections would want to get involved in anything Harry related. Nightmare.

@IcedPurple Yes, it’s probably all a daft rumour! But, my point that the Board can presumably ask people to get involved without consulting Harry still stands. They could theoretically ask other members of the RF to do something and he couldn’t do much about it except have a tantrum. 😂

Nigeria?
CrushingOnRubies · 29/04/2024 13:55

It's such a lovely photo. I feel like they were waiting for such an event to publish it. I mean 13 years is a fairly non remarkable anniversary normally isn't it. That's a photo you'd post on a more milestone year

MummyJ12 · 29/04/2024 14:00

I’d agree with you usually but it’s not been a normal year for them though. They are probably more grateful for one another than ever before at the moment.

Good call @Thedom! Maybe the Princess of Wales is a MNer!

Thedom · 29/04/2024 14:03

Aww it's gorgeous, she looks exactly the same as she did 13 years ago.

I would love to see a behind the scenes of their evening reception, was there ever a photo of the dress she changed into ?
