Can this be true? That Harry and Meghan are off on a “royal” trip to Nigeria? What’s the game now? My head is spinning!

They are going as private citizens.

Either they are going as private citizens, or Harry is going to promote Invictus. It can't be both. If you're representing an organisation or an institution, you are not there in a private capacity.

If it is a private visit, why have we been told about it? No-one needed to know anything about it.

Still, now they're there, they can carry on in private and we won't be hearing anything more about it, or seeing any photos.

"Private citizens" in the sense that they do not represent any government or public body. Invictus is a private organisation.

The whole thing is a bit odd. They're basically there for a long weekend? Strange timing for a 'work' visit.

MrsFinkelstein · 10/05/2024 11:28

It's really odd it's Nigeria.

Due to the FCO, US State Dept and all other major countries putting in travel advisory warnings about Nigeria, it's absolutely not a serious contender to host IG.

So why go? There's clearly something else going on in the background.

Not keen on Meghan's frock, backless, full length and awful salmon colour.
Harry spouting his normal clap trap about mental health ( yawn)

Not getting the frock at all.

Reminiscent of a flaccid appendage.

ArcaneWireless · 10/05/2024 11:30

As for the speech?

So therefore you have to look after yourselves to be able to look after other people, and other people have to be able to look after themselves to be able to look after you. That's the way it works

He can lecture about looking after mental health when he doesn’t damage the mental health of others.

Him and his wife.

She wore much better dresses in Australia, leaving aside the colour which I think is blah, it is far too long.

I think his speech topic was appropriate in context, they were visiting a school that had received money from Archwell and I think that mental health is one of the foundation's focuses.

They have taken a journalist from People magazine on their “private” trip.

That dress is not only dreadful on her, but another inappropriate outfit for the occasion, a school visit in a backless dress 🙄.

Thedom · 10/05/2024 12:12

and H coming up the rear as usual, a few steps behind, while she jumps ahead to greet people with outstretched arms. It is laughable and H continues to look like such a loser.

Viviennemary · 10/05/2024 12:16

It's a nice dress. But for a school visit?? And all the hugging. Does she think she's at the Oscars. What a silly pair. Embarrassing.

Perhaps she thought she was going to a prom 🤷‍♀️😆

£££££££££££ ?

QueenofTheBorg · 10/05/2024 12:57

Surely Charles has got to intervene now? They can't visit places and pretend they're working royals, when they aren't. And to say they're not safe in the UK without taxpayer funded security (as a taxpayer my view is Fuck Off) but they're FINE in Nigeria fgs? It's all most bizarre.

Thedom · 10/05/2024 12:58

I should add, Harry looks a state too, their bodyguard is more appropriately dressed than either of them.

QueenofTheBorg · 10/05/2024 12:58

We should have played bullshit or word salad bingo on this thread.

Who had "I see myself in all of you" ?

This is what Meghan meant when she said “I can’t believe I’m not getting paid for this”.

She’s doing all the “look at me, aren’t I the best humanitarian ever bestowing my grace and empathy upon you, making you feel special by my very presence, by smiling at you and hugging at you, even though I know nothing about any of you” with sympathetic press (People magazine) following them around, releasing only flattering photos, raising their profile (it’s straight up PR), while IG pays their costs and expenses. It’s what she did with the visit to India before she got with Harry, except she was a nobody then and now she’s Harry’s wife. This is the model she sold to Harry from the get go: we don’t have to do this for the U.K. (famously not, in her own words, her people
or her country) where we come second to William and Kate even though we’re better at this than they are. We can do it for ourselves, answer to nobody, and keep the money for ourselves.

The IG is a fig leaf, handily paying expenses. I do think Harry is sincere about the IG but It’ll only be a matter of time before he allows it to be taken away from him if he continues with this murky, shady business behind the scenes. Meghan is lucky he’s carried this over from his pre-marriage days, because it’s really all they’ve got.

queenofarles · 10/05/2024 13:10

Nothing changed really , When Celebs , Royals want to feel important and worthy they just go to other nonwhite countries. its not about the receiver its about them.

I agree. This is what she meant by 'I can't believe I'm not getting paid'. Then again, I'm not sure travelling by BA for a long weekend in Nigeria was quite what she was aiming for when she made her grand flounce.

Speaking of Invictus, have they mentioned this visit on any of their social media?

MrsFinkelstein · 10/05/2024 13:24

I don't mind Meghan's dress. The fit is OK for her, the colour isn't the most flattering to her IMO, but it's not bad.

It's just way too long. Just below knee or calf length would have been so much more flattering and appropriate. The backless fit is completely inappropriate to the situation. Would have been much more flattering and suitable as a vest top type fit or sleeveless with the back matching the front.

BemusedAmerican · 10/05/2024 13:27

If the next trip is Moscow for a podcast about Putin's childhood, then Charles has no choice but to strip Harry of his titles.

Mylovelygreendress · 10/05/2024 13:32

It’s not the worst thing she has worn. That has to be the red monstrosity. But completely inappropriate for a school visit .

notimagain · 10/05/2024 13:32

Agreed, it’s not a good look.

3peassuit · 10/05/2024 13:44

That dress is way too long and a backless dress is appropriate for a visit to a school. She’ll trip up on the hem and it will be dirty from the road and the grass.
Do the IG publish full accounts? It would be interesting to see costs associated with M and H.

Tlolljs · 10/05/2024 13:48

Meanwhile Prince William is in Cornwall buying pasties. Much more dignified.

Vermin · 10/05/2024 13:48

The dress is too backless / braless for a school visit but hey this isn’t a royal trip so it’s arguably less important. I think she will see the photographs and regret the eyebrow situation more than the long dress.
harry looks genuinely happy - haven’t seen a smile like that on him in a long time - looks like he misses the job
