Can this be true? That Harry and Meghan are off on a “royal” trip to Nigeria? What’s the game now? My head is spinning!

I’d agree with you usually but it’s not been a normal year for them though. They are probably more grateful for one another than ever before at the moment.

Good call @Thedom! Maybe the Princess of Wales is a MNer!

That is very true when you put it like that

Aww it's gorgeous, she looks exactly the same as she did 13 years ago.

I would love to see a behind the scenes of their evening reception, was there ever a photo of the dress she changed into ?

It was lovely.

Nigeria?
Thedom · 29/04/2024 14:24

@JSMill thank you, I do remember it now, it was perfect.

Honestly I don’t agree, they are resident in the USA, they are private citizens, they do not represent the royal family. The foreign office has enough to deal with , they won’t give a seconds thought to Harry and Megan’s antics. Their days of having that privalge are long gone.

No, they're using UK royal titles.
Meghan uses a royal coat of arms. Harry was referred to in the article as His Royal Highness.
The title is front and centre with the merching.
They are totally being royals.

IsoldeWagner · 29/04/2024 15:23

Meghan is just using it to promote fashion.

And herself!

It's really a disgrace! Some of the things in that article (if true .. but there's no smoke without fire) she's pissing all over the veterans, their charity and their strengths that have brought them through horrific injuries - some twit in fancy clothes, travelling first class or private jets, no doubt paying for security and everything g else they can get their hands on, which could have paid for prosthetics, therapy, counselling, assistance animals ... the list goes on, but squandering it on a couple of grifters is grotesque to say the least

BruFord · 29/04/2024 15:36

I take people’s points about Mike Tindall not being a great fit for Invictus.

The RF might play the long game instead. At least of William’s children is bound to serve in the military and they might be ideal to be invited to step into a patronage role in 20 years. No drama necessary, Harry could remain the Founding Patron, but the next generation would assume the more active role.

IsoldeWagner · 29/04/2024 15:39

True, @Runnerinthenight and @FloofyBear .
I also think that you have a good point, @BruFord - Harry's star is in descent, he's coming up to 40, not much going on, lacking credibility etc. he can't do it forever.

ArcaneWireless · 29/04/2024 15:51

Lovely photo that.

ArcaneWireless · 29/04/2024 15:53

I do think H will be to the RF as Alan Partridge is to radio 1 come time.

AnnieSF · 29/04/2024 16:27

Alll this talk has reminded me of that excruciating scene where Meghan was marching in those shorts at Invictus! It was just jaw dropping !

IsoldeWagner · 29/04/2024 16:29

Oh yes! Leading The Veterans March in floppy shorts and sliders!
Clueless.

PigglyWigglyOhYeah · 29/04/2024 16:41

No class, no sense, no self-awareness.

IsoldeWagner · 29/04/2024 16:44

Is there a South African team who can dance with joy at her presence?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 29/04/2024 16:46

IcedPurple · 28/04/2024 22:36

And what's 'Nigerian' DNA? The nation state of Nigeria is a modern entity, and people of many different ethnic groups live there. 'Nigerian' is not an ethnicity.

Don't go bringing common sense into it, IcedPueple
You're right of course, but since when did H&M allow the facts to get in the way of a good story?

Vespanest · 29/04/2024 16:47

I’d prefer jj chalmers if they were looking for a face for invictus. Royal marine, lots of experience in the media and an invictus competitor. Personally the games should be able to promote themselves now, that’s what success means. The host country leading the way. I have no idea who introduced the Paralympic (well I have now that I’ve googled) Although I don’t see invictus being long term as more western countries do everything they can to avoid entering wars especially the US (and the UK who blindly follow them).

ArcaneWireless · 29/04/2024 16:48

Good shout @Vespanest 👏🏽

it will stay with Harry, then maybes his kids. It’s now his,not the royal families. Harry is not doing amything with it as a working royal and none of the actual royals have anything to do with it. It is Harry as a private citizen. The royals do nothing with it,

I do think some folks think as Harry and Megan have titles, they are doing something royal. Hence comments like this one about royals taking over, or the foreign office being interested in their trip

yes they have titles, but that’s it, they are not working royals. They live in America, they do not represent the royal family or the king. Everything they do, inc invictus is as a private citizen,

IsoldeWagner · 29/04/2024 16:50

They certainly do not act like private citizens!
They act like they're very royal indeed.

Yes they are trying to be royal now as being royal is what they can cash in on, as it’s not their stellar work success over the last five years. They have failed to make their mark or have any form of independent success. So they are being royal. And blatantly so.

BruFord · 29/04/2024 16:56

@Freakinfraser Yes, he is a private citizen now, but surely it will be up to the Invictus board to decide whom they want to act as patrons on the future? Of course they could invite Harry’s children, but they’re unlikely to serve in the British military-although they might, who knows. 🤷

Assuming that Invictus wants to invite patrons with military connections. It’ll be the organization’s decision, of course.

I don’t know how it works or the voting rights to be honest. I couldn’t comment, but I do know it is nothing to do with the royal family at all. And I very much doubt they’d ever be willing to get involved. So many other worthwhile charities they can give their patronage to.

MaturingCheeseball · 29/04/2024 17:03

Who is running Invictus now? Do they really want Harry and Meghan as their figureheads? Or is something nefarious going on behind the scenes, what with the Nigeria business now?
