Can this be true? That Harry and Meghan are off on a “royal” trip to Nigeria? What’s the game now? My head is spinning!

I wonder if Harry is playing an elaborate game of chicken with his father and the UK government. Imagine the diplomatic fallout if he got kidnapped. So will Charles and/or the government forbid him from going?
Then he gets to whine about his dad/theUK /renew his security demands or something.
Or maybe UK diplomacy and security will have to be quietly rolled out for him, setting a precedent for his security demands.

Of course if they take the view he's a non-royal adult who can do as he pleases then Harry needs to make pretty sure that his safety is assured. Or come up with some excuse why he can't go at the last minute.

ShamedBySiri · 29/04/2024 00:25

They make me so cross. So selfish and thoughtless. Charles and William just do not need this sort of headache right now.

I hope they don't pay the ransom if the silly pair do get kidnapped! Twats, both of them!

StartupRepair · 29/04/2024 00:28

I wonder if they are missing their Commonwealth positions (even though they called it Empire 2.0.). Wonder how the Foreign Office views their floating about to different countries.

ArcaneWireless · 29/04/2024 00:29

You would hope not siri but thinking things through doesn’t come easy to him.

And nor does any consideration to his family.

AnnieSF · 29/04/2024 00:57

There is a pijun in your bank account 😂😂😂😂😂

AnnieSF · 29/04/2024 01:00

She needs to wear that lovely dress with the pigeons on it there. Was it pigeons? Or was it puffins?

It looked more like pigeon shit!

This board should be renamed to Harry and Meghan

AutumnCrow · 29/04/2024 02:12

Maybe MNHQ could break the Royal Family board into 3 sub-boards:

Senior Working Royals
Non-senior Non-working Not-really-royals-any-more-apparently
But What About Prince Andrew?

PrestonHood121 · 29/04/2024 02:28

It fits with the guff she spouted about being 43% Nigerian or whatever it was.

FloofyBear · 29/04/2024 07:30

If they both go they'd be very stupid as if they both get kidnapped or worse their children would be left alone. Also, I hope they're not expecting Invictus to pay for this, their expenses and security - Invictus could invest that money way better elsewhere. As for the public purse ... 😱

I think ShamedBySiri has it. Harry is trying to provoke a response from the Royal Family. Them going grey rock is driving him to more outlandish tactics. It is a bit pitiful, and I do feel a tiny bit sorry for him, as he obviously wants to be seen by them.

IsoldeWagner · 29/04/2024 07:45

He wants to be seen by them?
He's made his lifestyle choices and made them very clear. He wants to be royal, but not on their terms, he wants to do a few bits of charity or social events, appear in the papers, monetise his family by invading their privacy, hawk his title.
He's been seen by them alright, selling them out and being nasty, cruel and vindictive.
He wants to be seen?

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 29/04/2024 08:37

Surely if Harry is there at the invitation of the Nigerian military, he will be well protected from harm by them? Otherwise they will make themselves look a bit incompetent. I don't think they need to make their reputation any worse than it is by having a foreign prince kidnapped under their watch. Presumably they rely on trying to expand their foreign trade endeavours and make themselves into a country people will be happy to visit as tourists, and a place where big events can be held (eg football World Cup), which they are unlikely to do if they create a major diplomatic crisis and show that their own military can't keep someone on a planned visit safe. Never mind Invictus risking going there.

Their friend, Missan Harriman is from Nigeria, so it would not surprise me if Meghan films something with him for her Netflix special - traditional home cooking with her friend and his family, something like that.

Mylovelygreendress · 29/04/2024 08:39

Wonder if he will mention African Parks ?

AutumnCrow · 29/04/2024 08:41

Oh I think the Royal Family see Harry very clearly. I think they are looking at him good and hard, along with the advisors to Charles as Head of State. The late Queen had a few wrong ‘uns in her midst like Anthony Blunt who did real damage to the interests of the UK and its people.

Harry has already shown he doesn’t think the need for keeping confidentiality applies to him, nor the need to keep security secrets contra judge’s instructions. He’s a self-aggrandising show-off and a blabberchops braggart. I expect the Nigerian government will consider his presence quite the coup, and MI6 quite the headache.

Noseyoldcow · 29/04/2024 08:47

I can't wait.......What hideously expensive inappropriate and creased outfits will she wear? Will they let go of each other's hand for 5 minutes? Will he wear his medals? What tosh will he/she spout?
Will she give away some jam? Will he prise his hand away from hers and play polo? Will he win? Will she present the trophy and elbow everyone else out of shot? Who will be filming and photographing everything?

AutumnCrow · 29/04/2024 08:58

Michael Palin (national treasure, aged 80) has done an excellent documentary series for C5 that is now showing on Tuesday nights. He’s already covered polo in Nigeria and it’s association with the British army, including interviewing Folarin Kuku.

Starlia · 29/04/2024 09:10

I’m sure the $5000 jacket and $2000 dress will go down a treat with the horrifically poor Nigerians. 🙄

Mylovelygreendress · 29/04/2024 09:11

Who wants to tell him ??

Nigeria?
MrsLeonFarrell · 29/04/2024 09:14

I'm pretty sure most governments have a no ransom paid policy, otherwise anyone in public office would be at risk.

Regardless of why they are going I hope they are safe.

MummyJ12 · 29/04/2024 09:26

I hope they are safe too. I’m sure they will be as it would be a diplomatic disaster if anything were to happen or occur to put them at risk or harm and the Nigerian government do not want that. However, this decision adds to the nonsense and mockery of his argument that he and his family aren’t safe in this country.
Interesting how the HRH prefix has made an appearance in the announcement……

Lifestooshort71 · 29/04/2024 09:33

I found watching Michael Palin in Nigeria very unsettling. He struggled to relax and there were no little humorous exchanges that usually make his programmes so special. He looked his age (and has every right to) and seemed uncomfortable most of the trip - you could see he felt the danger and looked quite upset when mention was made of Britain's 60 years of colonial rule. I'm not sure either H or M have the intelligence or gravitas to deal with Nigeria unless, of course, it will be a heavily-curated visit from limo to palace door with no outside agencies disturbing the peace?
