Rose Hanbury denies rumours

PrettyFlyforaMaiTai · 18/03/2024 22:26

US media are reporting that Rose Hanbury, Marchioness of Cholmondeley, has denied rumours of an affair with Prince William.

“Business Insider reached out to all parties involved with the affair scandal. While Kensington Palace “declined to comment,” Hanbury said through her lawyers that “the rumours are completely false.” This marks the first time that Hanbury has publicly said something about the affair ever since the rumors emerged”.

This looks like it was in response to a joke about William/Rose/Kate relationship on ‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’.

Yes, what an apology for a human being. Nice company you're keeping, Harry!

I haven't the remotest interest in this, but I think the depth of your concern is misplaced. Rose Hanbury is from a background where bedhopping is pretty much de rigueur, and where wealth, social norms and owning a lot of enormous properties mean that infidelity, unless it casts doubt on the paternity of an heir, is rarely the deal-breaker it is in Mn circles. RH was at the centre of a fair bit of scandal years back when she announced her engagement, announced her (fairly advanced) pregnancy and married her now-husband within three days, especially when he'd been a notorious player, and was also rumoured to be gay or bi, making her a beard for an heir etc.

Oh Lord! How many times...?

I know that - I'm a historian. I'm not on about the morals and conduct of the upper classes - I'm talking about the revolting relish of some people who want this rumour to be true. I'm talking about the humanity here - not the history - there are real people - particularly children involved. They will most likely be hearing things said about their parents which I would hate my children to have heard - whether they're true or not. But if your attitude is: well, they're upper class, so I don't care - I think that's awful.

And this is all very high-profile stuff. That's my point - if it was just a few bored aristos bed-hopping very discreetly, that wouldn't matter to anyone. But it's all in the public domain, all over SM and bound to have an impact on those involved - some of whom are /have been seriously ill. I don't care what class these people are, or how much more money they have than me - I still find it really distasteful to wish misery on them so publicly.

How would some of these posters like their children to be subjected to national and international SM speculation about their parents' sex lives? (But, they're privileged so let's enjoy it??)

I just hope the subjects of the gossip are able to laugh about it.

If you're a historian, you should surely be able to read more carefully. You're responding to a post I didn't write. I've in no way suggested I don't care about people's feelings because they're aristocrats, and I've certainly never 'wished misery on them'. That's exactly the kind of hyperbole I was remarking on. My sole point is that adultery means differently in different social situations, and that in the Cholmondley scene, it's far more culturally-sanctioned, and less likely to end in marital break-up. I made no reference to the Princess of Wales, who isn't from that background.

Very revealing how the usual H&M defenders are so into this rumour. Another fine piece of hypocrisy which reveals the dark heart of Sussex fandom. Very telling that they are all about mental health and being kind when it’s about H&M but absolutely ravenous to tear Catherine, William and all those associated with them to shreds online like spiteful teenagers.

You either believe in kindness or you don’t. You can’t pick and choose.

I do feel very sorry for Rose Hanbury, her husband and her children. I suspect their distress is part of the fun for the people spreading this rumour.

Yep it's like a pack of hyenas on here...

Why are all these posters convinced William has affairs? Is it a family trait? Does Harry do it too? Or is it something specific to William?

I know!! It's bonkers. He might, he might not - but we don't know and I don't really want to know - some folk on here would think that was weird.

William married the woman he chose, unlike so many other royals in the past. Doesn't mean things will always be perfect but I bet William is very well aware of the horror of family break-up and wouldn't throw everything away on a whim.

(And on another topic - do these mad consipracy-theorists and SM addicts who believe all they hear on TikTok etc realise that these platforms are run by hostile powers (China in the case of TikTok) who have a vested interest in destablising their 'enemies', such as the UK? Gossip about the RF might seem trivial, especially to those of a republican viewpoint, but it all feeds into a climate of distrust and destablisation of the country when it's already weakened economicaly. I wish these people would understand that they're being manipulated by SM of a hostile and sinister kind.)

And my point is that I'm not interested in the social mores of the upper classes - I keep repeating that to no avail! I'm criticising the lip-smacking by so many people at the prospect of juicy sex-scandal enveloping the RF - where young children are involved.

The attitudes to sexual relationships amongst the UC is irrelevant - it's the SM exposure and press intrusion and speculation, enjoyed by so many weirdos, and its effect on people and the children involved which I've found so revolting recently. And the awful American w*** mentioned above - Stephen Colbert - is just vile.

CoffeeCantata · 19/03/2024 10:53

Oops - there should be 5 asterisks for Stephen Colbert.

Apologies - frothing again.

Ratsoffasinkingsauage · 19/03/2024 10:57

@Samcro Then you aren’t looking. I have seen some very regular pro-H&M posters getting very into this story in quite a nasty way. Ditto pile ons for the POW pictures.

There is a very big mean girl element in Sussex fandom. I am starting to get the feeling that lots of those posters are so into the topic because it gives them an opportunity to spout disgusting stuff and still feel morally justified because they feel like the royals aren’t human and deserve it.

I think most men with power will have affairs. It's just what happens.

KERALA1 · 19/03/2024 11:10

I just wonder with the internet and the power it gives and all the conspiracy theory crazy types whether anyone will ever want to actually be in the public eye? Just not worth it. How sensible of Harry’s blonde exes to bail. Bet they are far happier

There were a few threads on it, I was going to post hang on it’s likely just media clickbait time but just thought people are too invested it’s true

I think you both probably need two read back over the threads from the last few years then. This forum is full of rally unpleasant things about Meghan, her mother, her children, her weight, her intelligence, her mental health, her marriage etc etc If you've only been bothered by the last week of social media craziness, then you have either not been on the internet longer than a week, or have a big blind spot.

Who? Stop alluding to it and point it out precisely where it happens. There a mean girl element on social media full stop. You can't pretend royal fans haven't been hating on Meghan for 6 years, please!

I have zero idea whether there's anything behind any of that gossip, obviously, any more than there is behind the PoW rumours, but this is not like Dave at Number Seventeen shagging Brenda from Accounts, and his wife agonised because she's a SAHM of three entirely dependent on his salary, and it's highly unlikely to cause family breakdown.

Whatever people need to say to make themselves feel better about talking about other humans like trash, right?

Discussing any of those things about Meghan is horrid. People here do say so as they are now about Kate. This thread is not about that, though.

FinallyHere · 19/03/2024 11:57

The media needs to stop this

As long as there is demand from the public, as long as people read this stuff and engage with it, the media will continue to supply it.

Why wouldn't they ?

Oh come off it. People on both sides of the K&W vs H&M are equally vile and if you don't accept this as fact then you are just another one blinded by their obsessive views.

Nasty comments are nasty comments whoever^^ they are aimed at. There is no justification for nastiness. Especially towards people that they don't even know.

Ratsoffasinkingsauage · 19/03/2024 12:04

I’m not going to fall for the bait. The fact is that the behaviour from some poster is bullying and hypocritical.

Fairness is the ability to treat your friends and enemies just the same. If you think it is wrong when happening to someone you like they you shouldn’t be doing it to someone you dislike.

This is school ground stuff how do grown adults not know this?
