Rose Hanbury denies rumours

PrettyFlyforaMaiTai · 18/03/2024 22:26

US media are reporting that Rose Hanbury, Marchioness of Cholmondeley, has denied rumours of an affair with Prince William.

“Business Insider reached out to all parties involved with the affair scandal. While Kensington Palace “declined to comment,” Hanbury said through her lawyers that “the rumours are completely false.” This marks the first time that Hanbury has publicly said something about the affair ever since the rumors emerged”.

This looks like it was in response to a joke about William/Rose/Kate relationship on ‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’.

"they hurt, bleed and cry like the rest of us"

😅 seriously. They don't.

And roses children, we know how the Charles and Diana revelations have impacted Harry, is it a laughing emoji for them as well

Wickedlywearynamechange · 19/03/2024 01:10

In the case of Diana and Charles was it the ‘revelations’ or their parent’s actions that impacted them? I’d say both, but the shite started with the parents behaving badly and thoughtlessly imo.

I am not speculating on this current rumour.

Wickedlywearynamechange · 19/03/2024 00:51

That’s what I thought. But then someone on here told me that’s not right but didn’t offer up the reason why. Then I read that in regard to the US it has to be both be proven untrue and said with malice. As it was a joke, it would not be considered malice apparently.

I wait to be corrected for the 3rd time on this matter.

Curious why do you think if they were inclined to sue, they'd sue in the US?

Under NY law where Colbert is based there only needs to be malice if Rose would be considered a public figure which might be a stretch over there but even if they did "Malice is defined as actual knowledge that the statement is false or reckless disregard as to whether the statement was false", I think they'd handly win with reckless diregard the statement was false

They also don't need to prove harm because impugning a womans chastity aka implying shes having an affair falls under the category of per se harm

"Defamation lawsuits that fall into one of the four categories will usually have a presumption of damages.
The four general categories are:

  • Statements that an individual has been engaging in behavior incompatible with the proper ethical or professional conduct of his or her business trade.
  • Statements charging that a person has been engaging in criminal activity
  • Statements that a person has been engaging in sexual misconduct or is unchaste
  • Statements charging that a person has an infectious, contagious, or loathsome disease"

I feel sorry for her and their children. Many people will believe no smoke without fire, even if it’s untrue. How can she prove it? Impossible situation.

Easily , we've all seen her many times with excellent quality pics. The media needs to stop this. I know many believe this is her, (only on mumsne)t ,not many elsewhere. This whole" 'I'm not a conspiracy theroy' starting a sentence is only on mumsnet again! They used the nudge unut to psychological manipulate people to ramp up fear during covid and chnsge behavior during people, is that a conspiracy? We are allowed to question things. And by God we shoild be.

Wow, I didn’t know he was having an affair. How long has it being going on for?

Maireas · 19/03/2024 07:21

Where have the Mr Spock ears come from?

Ratsoffasinkingsauage · 19/03/2024 07:29

Very revealing how the usual H&M defenders are so into this rumour. Another fine piece of hypocrisy which reveals the dark heart of Sussex fandom. Very telling that they are all about mental health and being kind when it’s about H&M but absolutely ravenous to tear Catherine, William and all those associated with them to shreds online like spiteful teenagers.

You either believe in kindness or you don’t. You can’t pick and choose.

I do feel very sorry for Rose Hanbury, her husband and her children. I suspect their distress is part of the fun for the people spreading this rumour.

JPGR · 19/03/2024 07:30

People love a good conspiracy theory. I’ve been reading for years that Putin is on the verge of dying/has died and been replaced be a lookalike/has some awful illness. But nope, there he is, still causing havoc in the world.

He’s not.

LadyBird1973 · 19/03/2024 07:53

The thing is, nobody actually knows what goes on in a marriage, except the people involved. Given the damage rumours cause, there should be a presumption of innocence and therefore no 'jokes' about unsubstantiated rumours, until such time as the press can substantiate them.
If it's then deemed to be in the public interest (which largely depends on who/what the information is about), the press should be allowed to publish facts.
I think it's probably long past the time when we should have put a stop to publicly rubbishing people based on very little provable information.
And largely extra marital affairs are not in the public interest to know - I've learned far more over the years about celebrities sex lives than was really my business. Now I freely admit that I sometimes love to read gossip, but if I'm trying to be objective, that's not the basis on which our media should be operating.
I always liked the French approach to this sort of thing - unless it had a direct impact on the public, their press didn't report personal details of affairs.

Giles Coren openly admitted, I think in 2019, that he made the story up. I didn't see him chivalrously coming forward in the past month to remind everyone of his lie. She should sue him.

Yeah I think he should be sued

CoffeeCantata · 19/03/2024 08:02

I'll admit to 'frothing' over this issue. I posted on another thread recently where several posters were positively salivating at the juicy gossip on this topic.

It makes me despair of people because, whatever it's faults, you'd think MN is a place where posters care about families and especially children. I've been 'disgusted of Tunbridge Wells' about the sheer nastiness and enjoyment of the thought that 2 families, with at least 5 children between them (never mind the impact on the adults) were involved in a scandal which some people find entertaining and funny. Ha ha.

PPs are right - it doesn't matter how many times it's denied, some people believe what they want to believe - and that's what's so horrible. People on here - not X or other nastier sites - who enjoy the thought of family break-up. It's bad enough when it actually happens, but to actually wish it on others is awful. I guess if you don't like the RF or the upper classes then you can sit by the guillotine knitting and really enjoy watching them squirm.

God - I've been repulsed by some of the scummy posts on here over the last week.

CoffeeCantata · 19/03/2024 08:03

its faults, not 'it's faults. Sorry - I was frothing!

100%

Yes, I guess it is mainly H & M supporters - the nastier element, anyway.

I've go to say that IME the real nastiness on here seems to come from that direction, but that's another topic.

ImCamembertTheBigCheese · 19/03/2024 08:09

It feels like we live in a world where so many demand instant answers. If there is anything going on, it will come out in the wash.

WarningOfGails · 19/03/2024 08:10

Where did Giles Coren say this to start the rumour?

I feel terrible for not only her, her husband and her children.

Not only are she and her children now part of this huge media storm but her husband has been a victim of online homophobia for years.

Trolls have been accusing this man of being gay for the past 5 years with no concrete evidence.

Didn’t stop him mentioning it in Engame for no reason though, did it? These rumours have resurfaced since the run in to the publication of that pile of shite last November.
