AIBU to lose faith and trust in what we get to hear about the royal family?

What would restore your faith in the royal family?

OP posts:

Why would I have had any more faith and trust in the royal family than anyone else. I don't know them and realise they are doing a job.
I am a royalist but I don't think they are my friends and what I see is their real lives.

mondaytosunday · 17/03/2024 01:49

No. Back in the day they could somewhat control what was seen by the public, now it's impossible (remember those awful phone conversations between Charles and Camilla). So I don't think they themselves have changed, just that they can no longer hide behind the curtain. So my trust is much as it ever was.

Just leave them alone. I feel sorry for Kate. She was a simply a mom trying to post a picture with her children on mother's day. The fact that a bunch of tabloids are upset that they can't find her to post pictures of her or get her medical records, picked it to pieces.

Harry and Meghan tried to keep some of their life private. They got hounded out of the country.

Kate is going through now what they went through. Somebody pay attention.

What complete and utter nonsense @OhcantthInkofaname 🙄

healthadvice123 · 17/03/2024 02:02

@beatrix1234 they have private wealth you know ? Should we take everyones who is rich then and put it into public transport ? What a weird and not thought out thing to say
you can’t just strip someone of their money just like that

Cascais · 17/03/2024 02:05

No

Fraudornot · 17/03/2024 02:07

They are a hugely dysfunctional family - the institution itself is clearly not good for them. Maybe they would be relieved if the U.K. voted to cancel them.

healthadvice123 · 17/03/2024 02:12

So many people just do not get it? You can’t just vote to have no royal family and they just all go and live in a nice terrance up the road.

PrinceLouisWeirdFinger · 17/03/2024 02:23

No, it’s just bread and circuses, isn’t it. They’re an expensive soap opera, keeping the peasants entertained. They’ve been that way for a long time. They’re irrelevant in the 21st century but we still like to gawp at their carriages and squabbles - it’s like posh Eastenders, really.

No, there was none to lose in the first place for me. The RF put on a show when in public. What they are really like as people, when at home, or with friends the public will never really know.

Never had any in the first place. Love pretty frocks and scandal though.

Ha

MissLou0 · 17/03/2024 03:12

Dan Wootton has hinted that she has an illness that’s “embarrassing” (I’m not a fan of his but with his background he’d likely have sources) and so there’s speculation she might be using a colostomy bag. The “planned abdominal surgery” is not true as there was an ambulance surrounded by royal security from where they live to the hospital on 28th December that’s all over TikTok.

Mercurial123 · 17/03/2024 03:21

No trust lost because I never trusted them. It's too easy to blame H&M. Look at Andrew, Fergie, Edward, and Sophie. Prince Phillip's racism to name but a few incidents.

Mercurial123 · 17/03/2024 03:23

trippily · 16/03/2024 20:45

Yes they are clearly (bad) liars who think we are idiots!

The hatred on here is quite amusing towards H&M. So many people clutching their pearls.

ReliefComic · 17/03/2024 03:29

No.

The speculation about a woman who has had surgery and not on the scene just as advised is bonkers. The public doesn’t own POW, she might have a public role (that few people would want) but she isn’t public property.

I hope W&C stick to telling people nothing/do not bow down on this. Their personal lives are their own.

EcstaticMarmalade · 17/03/2024 03:33

Never had any faith in them. I had thought they were slightly more competent at PR than this shit show suggests.

Happyinarcon · 17/03/2024 03:34

We should totally replace the Brexit fight with a royal family fight. The media will get stuck in and it can drag on forever

eise · 17/03/2024 06:15

To be fair everyone knows they lie I don't think anyone cares unless you are a huge fan. It's probably a shock to those who idolise them.

scalt · 17/03/2024 06:57

I've never had any faith in them. If they served any purpose, Her Majesty would have sacked Boris Johnson herself (and chopped his head off for good measure); he was her servant, after all. I had to laugh that King Charles was practically forced into a T-shirt that said "Just Start Oil", it was almost funny the way that even the King had to say things it was well-known that he didn't agree with.

And I've said before, I think lots of things are not as they seem. It's amazing how Her Majesty lived just long enough to reach Platty Joobs, and her mother lived just long enough to reach 100. Perhaps the film The Queen was the dress rehearsal for Dame Helen Mirren, or somebody looking similar. For all we know, the latest might be the lesser of what has been covered up, they just botched this one, or the botching is to distract us from something else. Is the King still appearing now and again, even if Kate isn't? (I can't be bothered to watch and find out, I refused to watch Golden Joobs, Diamond Joobs, Platty Joobs, the funeral, and the coronation.) Things may not be as they seem. 🤔 Remember that they have access to the best illusionists, impressionists, magicians and spin doctors that money can buy.

(And because this is Mumsnet, the above is pure shameless satire.)

FloofCloud · 17/03/2024 07:24

No, although I'm not particularly a royalist as such, some of them have important roles, KC, Cilla, Wills, Anne, Kate, now Edward and Sophie have stepped up.
Anyone else should be paying their own way IMO even if that's just working for the firm, but they need to have a job if they want money, as do the front line royals, who do anyway.
The stuff with the photo - I think it's more media lead frenzy, perhaps a way to stop KP from sending amateur pictures for the RF. Kate shouldn't have agreed to a photo if she wanted to remain offline til after Easter, personally I'd have remained quiet.
If Wills is having an affair then he's an arsehole, look what that life did to his mother and he's following the same pattern if that is true.
H&M did have a role, but it wasn't good enough for them, my suspicions is they both wanted M to become the new Diana and take the world by storm. I do suspect W&K cottoned onto this, and wouldn't have liked it, but MM was and is never going to be the same as Diana as she was her, and MM is different. Its clear that H&M are desperate to force themselves into the world of celebrity / philanthropic big wigs, except they're both empty vessels, off the back of everyone and anyone else (started with Diana IMO) but they're both spiteful and malicious too, they both come across as so empty and bereft of anything of note, so have become immensely toxic under their desperation

Butteredtoast55 · 17/03/2024 07:30

It's the media generally and social media particularly that I have the problem with.

sashagabadon · 17/03/2024 07:33

No if anything I am more in favour of a monarchy than before as I’ve thought about it. Previously I didn’t give it much thought!

MissTrip82 · 17/03/2024 07:35

I’m not sure I had any before.

But I’m 46 - I recall Charles and Diana both hanging their families out to dry in interviews and in books.
It surprises me both that Harry did the same after living through his parents terrible behaviour, and that anyone thinks anyone royal is doing anything new. They’ve always existed
solely to maintain their own position; everything they do can be cast in that light.

MrsLeonFarrell · 17/03/2024 08:00

No.

But I have lost faith in the common sense and kindness of people on social media (admittedly that started a while ago).

I find it depressing that so many people would rather believe and spread nasty stories than give someone privacy at a difficult time.

I have lost any trust I had in the media. They are solely about the clicks and don't care about evidence or being kind or respecting privacy.

WolfFoxHare · 17/03/2024 08:01

No. I think the whole reaction to the PoW being absent is ridiculous.

LizzieSiddal · 17/03/2024 08:06

Iv always felt as soon as the Queen (Elizabeth) died, the Royals wouldn’t last very long. We were mostly all fine with an old lady, who’d very much dedicated her whole life to duty, being treated with reverence. No one really cares about Charles and whilst some believed the normal hype about William, now the media have fallen out with him, they won’t last 5 minutes.

The truth is W has always had the representation of being pretty lazy. He says he wants to change the way he does things by not turning up to open new buildings, but will focus on “big” projects. Which mean he hopes he can get away with not traveling much around the country. The public and media will not put up with that.
