AIBU to lose faith and trust in what we get to hear about the royal family?

What would restore your faith in the royal family?

They are just a big dysfunctional family with loads of drama aren’t they?

And loadsa dough too.

Yes. The way Harry and Meghan were treated by the firm and press reinforced the deeply entrenched racism and classicism in the UK.

The vitriolic posters on mumsnet and the relentless determination to destroy them for far far less than Andrew or even Charles, Sophie.

When I read some of the posts and threads that @mumsnet permits it tells me more than the country will admit about how ingrained the distain of people of colour really is.

I read those posts and go.to.work and think the next person could be one of those spewing hatefulness about someone who looks like me.

Celebrates black history month, but like the Royal family who have the commonwealth and supposedly rule over a diverse country the acceptance of brown and black folk is conditional. We must stay in our lane of serving only and shut up about injustices against us because the gratitude of being in the same ratified air should outweighs any pain.

The Royal family is the living embodiment of racism and their supporters daily show that those who look like me and our children are not safe, that we're tolerated and and are here on sufferance.

MissMelanieH · 16/03/2024 22:09

I never particularly had faith or trust in them though.
I've never met any of them so why would I be sure I could trust them?
They're a family of imperfect humans just like everybody else.

I lost any trust on the royal family looooong long ago when the Charles and Diana affair came out. Don't give two hoots about any of them but periodically feel sorry for William and Harry. It's got to mess you up having that upbringing.

This!

And I frankly have no time for an institution that embeds privilege at the heart of our society in 2024. Our head of state should be voted in, be open and transparent, and have earned their exalted position through merit.

Edited to say I also thought Diana, Meghan and Harry were treated abysmally.

beatrix1234 · 16/03/2024 22:15

I believe the monarchy needs to be abolished, let them get a job as civil servants, all their properties and wealth seized and given to the public. Let’s have the government put all that money into our public health system, better public transport and make sure every child in this country is fed.

ditalini · 16/03/2024 22:20

I'm pretty sure dh thinks about the Roman Empire* more than I spend mental energy on the Royal Family.

The exception has been the last few weeks because of this endless media shite, but even with it shoved in my face, I don't care what TRF do or don't do.

*and he assures me he doesn't really think about it at all.

MissingMoominMamma · 16/03/2024 22:21

They aren’t necessary.

Jellykat · 16/03/2024 22:25

Nope, mainly because others (politicians) have lied and gaslit us a hell of a lot more!
far as i'm concerned its a dodgy photo or two, and no biggie by comparison.

anonymousamy · 16/03/2024 22:30

No. They’re just human beings at the end of the day. We all make mistakes.

User135644 · 16/03/2024 22:32

C1N1C · 16/03/2024 20:41

No.

Harry and Meghan have ruined it. I consider the Royal Family like Father Christmas. The more mystery, the better. Harry and Meghan have over-shared and now its expected of the rest of them. Every picture is now scrutinised. Every action.

Whether they make money or cost money is irrelevant for me. I think they draw people on and give England a magical feel.

The royal family were a laughing stock in the 90s and it was Diana who was accused of ruining them (until she was sainted after death).

mrlistersgelfbride · 16/03/2024 22:33

No but I never had any to start with.
I don't consider them and I'm surprised the royal family still exists.
What are they for?

User135644 · 16/03/2024 22:34

Quizine · 16/03/2024 22:03

And loadsa dough too.

Channel 4 should do another series of Benefits Street on them.

DoIdriveaVauxhallZafira · 16/03/2024 21:40

Don't be ridiculous.

The utter hysteria of the last few weeks is unbelievable!

Nothing will top all the wailing in the streets and all the rest of it when Diana died.

People lose their minds over these bunch of no marks.

BeaRF75 · 16/03/2024 22:39

No, not at all.
I feel sorry for the fact that their personal health issues are being touted around everywhere.
They are people like anyone else, they try to do their best for the country but they have to deal with ridiculous scrutiny (& idiots on social media). They need our support.

Whatevershallidowithmylife · 16/03/2024 22:41

Not interested in the slightest however recent events? Kate ill, she's had surgery, she'll be back on duty at Easter. It's not yet Easter what's the issue?

Why do they need our support, is our money not enough? They're strangers to me, I don't owe them anything at all.

BioHive · 17/03/2024 00:09

i have full faith in the royal family,

To use the fictional show "Spooks," who's to say what's really happening? Just because the general public doesn't have the operational details of what's what doesn't mean there aren't valid reasons for the secrecy, etc.

by that logic the same could then be said about others why should they care for the public ?

GraveyardWhistling · 17/03/2024 01:12

I don’t know why anyone would have trust/faith in them, we don’t know them. But they’re just humans and are flawed like everyone else, in fact they seem more flawed than most and they can’t hide it like they used to. A random family with lots of problems.

I don’t see the point in them. If they weren’t there, I don’t think it would make much difference. When the Queen died and the news channels tried to tell us all that we were sad and she had given us all stability.....What was that all about? Stability? I never thought about her from one year to the next and don’t know anyone that did.

Most people are only interested in the Royals now because of this latest drama. They’re like a tv series at the moment to people, great for drama and entertainment but other than that, they’re irrelevant.

Never had faith in them. It's absolutely baffling that in the 21st century we are still subjects and not citizens.

That’s my view as well^

All of this!

Lacoutine · 17/03/2024 01:41

No - they said she was having major surgery and should be back after Easter. It isn’t Easter yet so I’ve no idea what all the fuss is about.
I have definitely lost faith in the common sense of the public though 🙄

healthadvice123 · 17/03/2024 01:43

All a load of fuss about nothing, just because they haven’t given the papers the full ins and outs of kates illness, they are turning a slightly tweeked photo into something its not. I can go on facebook and instagram now and 80% of photos will be either filtered or photo shopped in some way. Even at work the photos against most peoples emails look nothing like them in real life as edited , old , filtered etc
