AIBU to lose faith and trust in what we get to hear about the royal family?

What would restore your faith in the royal family?

And still I think "so what?" Some media people will have a bit more work to do, the royal family will have yo do cleverer editing or be more open about editing. Still not seeing that as important.

This is what I mean. People telling them they are perfect amazing beings who can do no wrong has led to this. They have been given a slapdown by the International press for doing something they thought they would get away with, because they would have got away with it in the British press. Now they will have to be more careful. That's good for them, and good for us.

I’m lost. As per usual. Do you mean H&M or the others in the RF?

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 17/03/2024 13:25

If I'm going to be represented by anyone, I'd rather it be by people who think reality is good enough.

whatsitcalledwhen · 17/03/2024 13:26

I find it amazing anyone believes the monarchy is a credible institution considering that it's purely by reason of birth order that our King isn't now Andrew.

If he had been the eldest sibling, he would have been first in line after the Queen died and would now be the King.

To people who support the monarchy - how would you have felt if that happened?

It just goes to show the lunacy of giving people such wealth, power, support and profile based solely on the family they happen to be born into.

pinkfondu · 17/03/2024 13:32

Nope not at all. I believe she has a right to deal with a medical issue as discreetly as she wishes.

LizHoney · 17/03/2024 13:44

No

The gossip and intrigue is beyond batshit. They are really pretty normal people doing good work for our country. The weirdos stoking the rumour mill need a lie down.

Yes, exactly. The people who say ‘Oh, I loved the queen, not so keen on Charles’ really don’t get it.

The whole point of a hereditary monarchy is that there’s no choice.

You just get whoever’s next in line, whether it’s a dutiful drudge who treks about smiling gamely in hats, or a Nazi sympathiser.

An accident of birth order meant you got Charles rather than the friend of a convicted sex trafficker who settled a civil lawsuit about sex with a trafficked minor out of court. Again, another accident of birth in the next generation meant you got a dutiful drone as PoW rather than a confused, visibly screwed-up man doing his acting out in public in the US.

Very true!

crockofshite · 17/03/2024 13:54

We know 2 things for sure.

  1. KP said PoW is having abdominal surgery and will be on sick leave till after Easter.
  1. The press / media, here in the UK but also USA, Europe, everywhere really, are lying untrustworthy sneaky self-serving greedy lying (did I say lying?) stinking bunch of shit stirring thick cunts - only interested in selling their pathetically boring rags and getting online clicks ..... and the owners of all media also have political alliances and agendas and like to be in control of the news, not just report it.

Which of those 2 points do you disagree with?

I didn't watch the coronation (I refused to do so while we still can, in case 1984 becomes real, and such things are forcibly broadcast into our homes), but wasn't there something about those watching at home being "invited" to pledge allegiance?

Yes, but that went down like a cup of cold sick so there was a hasty backtrack

No.

Harry and Meghan have ruined it. I consider the Royal Family like Father Christmas. The more mystery, the better. Harry and Meghan have over-shared and now its expected of the rest of them. Every picture is now scrutinised. Every action.

Whether they make money or cost money is irrelevant for me. I think they draw people on and give England a magical feel.

"They give England a magical feel"

Yeah, really magical. Here in my part of east London it feels like Mary Poppins with all of these Cockney chimney sweeps singing and dancing and nannies using their umbrellas to fly. Charlie and his lot are an integral part of that general magic.

I agree with the first point and I think the second point applies to many elements within the press especially at the tabloid end of the spectrum.

Overall though I think we can agree that a free press is vital in a democracy.

The problem is that the RF has to collude with many unsavoury elements of the press and the media simply because if they carried out all of their duties without press coverage the monarchy would soon become obsolete. Therefore KP amd BP have to engage in a Faustian pact in order that the press play along with the monarchy’s agenda which is ultimately not credible or sustainable, especially when they try and trade stories in order to try and ensure that one of them is shown in a more favourable light than the other. It’s 2024. Time moves on. We can all see through the charade.

Yes, nothing gives a ‘magical feel’ like photos of the regnant monarch’s brother with his arm around a trafficked minor, and the knowledge that, but for an accident of birth order, said alleged sex offender and friend of a convicted sex trafficker would currently be on the throne.

All hail King Andrew, wanted by the FBI, unable to travel on royal duties, because he might be extradited to the US!

RhubarbGingerJam · 17/03/2024 14:34

I live though 90s with Wales waring in papers - idea that there is faith to lose is odd TBH.

The monarch has a constitutional role in out current set up -rest play PR games to keep RF popular - which they are doing badly at the moment. They've been equally bad in the past TBH and pulled it back - depends what they do next as it can turn so quickly - Diana death with headlines changing in hours shows that.

mrsjg · 17/03/2024 17:16

Never had faith in them. They are not relevant in today's society.

We have, over centuries been conditioned to look up to these people, respect them - they are our betters. Respect has to be earned, this lot has nothing done nothing to earn my respect.

I genuinely think Kate has had an operation that she is struggling to heal from and that is why we have not seen her . However because of money, the best healthcare, domestic help and stylists, when we do finally see her we will expect her to appear immaculate and flawless. Anything else just won't do. However, I also think she perpetuates the perfect life, perfect wife perfect kids myth too.

I hope this is the beginning of the end of the monarchy. I want to be a citizen not a subject.

@DistinguishedSocialCommentator I think, from reading your previous posts, that your main problem is putting people you don't know on a ridiculously high pedestal, and believing wholesale the PR puff you have been fed by William and Kate in the past. That is bound to lead to disappointment when they turn out to just be fairly unremarkable people with not a lot going for them apart from either being born into the right family or marrying well. It does them no favours to blow smoke up their arses for the minimal things they do. Kate is either such an amazing woman that she manages to effortlessly pop out 3 children without even breaking a sweat or putting on any weight unlike us plebs with our mum tums sitting in our pj's with bits falling out off us for days on end, or she needs months off work for an operation whereas he can't even show her face on a zoom.call 3 months afterwards. She is either such an amazing photographer that she can get her photos into books, or she is just a mum messing around amateurishly on Photoshop. William and Kate have sat on their laurels while revelling in being 'not Meghan and Harry' but haven't done anything that stands up to any scrutiny. They have made themselves into something they can't live up to. No one forced them or imposed ' perfect Kate' on them.

Hello

With respect, do I note a hint of envy?

The reason I admire HRH is that she looks like a model but presents very differently to a model, ie, she is elegant, sophisticated, intelligent, caring, loving and knows what to do and not to do in public. William is a very smart, moderately handsome young man who commands respect and he too is intelligent etc just like Kate. They make the perfect couple and their kids are the icing on a sweet cake.

I've also grown to love Camila as she is touching, caring and very decent.

I am upset about the two pics and I blame KP for that and more so for not allowing the orginal to be shared with those who withdrew the picture, initially.

I dont want to see the unedited pic but will trust the judgement of the two most respected news providers, PA and Reuters.

if not how do you know all this?

Same way any of us make our own opinions about the rf and celebrities I imagine.

I'm not a Camilla fan but people like Paul O'Grady (a known republican) thought she was great. People are complex not pantomime villains or saints.

Others tell me that I have the "gift" of reading people very well, even those I've never physically met.

Cronchy · 17/03/2024 19:32

why would you have faith in them originally? I haven’t lost any faith, I didn’t have any before. They literally had Andrew before though so surely even for those that had faith, a bit of photoshop isn’t the thing that’s tipped you over the edge.

This thread is fascinating. Some posts are truly jaw-dropping - unless some of you are taking the mickey OP looking at you

I think for your own sake, you should not listen to these people. You are asking to be taken advantage of. Your posts are incredibly naive.
