Imagine using the victims of a school shooting for attention and PR. There seem to be no depths to which this pair will not sink

Meghan and Harry sing happy birthday to school shooting victim family

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle make a surprise visit to Uvalde, Texas, to support the family of Irma Garcia, a teacher killed in the 2022 school shooting.

Maybe they actually care about the victims of a horrible school shooting and their families.

The people they visited seem happy about it!

Tontostitis · 10/03/2024 07:40

I willing to believe it possible they care about the Ulvade families but really can't see why they need to take a camera crew, announce and publicise their antics? The Netflix crew, and closing the cemetary at the first visit was tacky but they were filming a reality series so a bit more understandable.

This seems to confirm her Ghoul of Uvalde moniker. Why can't they do a nice thing without all the gurning publicity? And there's 2 families much closer to home they could show consideration too if they want to improve their public image.

If it was about caring, there would be no photos

Em2ds1dd · 10/03/2024 07:52

”weeping tears of joy” and insisting they sing Happy Birthday to a woman whose sister died in the shooting while presenting her with a cake.

They have absolutely no shame.

PigglyWigglyOhYeah · 10/03/2024 07:56

The trouble is, everything they do comes across as calculated and performative, which actually has the opposite effect on people than they think it will have. (Except for their supporters, who can't seem to see it.)

minou123 · 10/03/2024 08:17

Why do you do this?

It's quite clear from the article that the family, specifically the nephew, took the photos and put them on social media.

It's in the article you posted
Irma's nephew, John, 22, took to social media to share photos of the royals' visit, adding that he could not believe how the Sussexes were so 'loving and supportive'.

There was no camara crew. PR or publicity.

CrispsandCheeseSandwich · 10/03/2024 08:23

As a PP said, the photos were shared by the family.

I'd have found it a bit weird to have Harry and Meghan (or any royal or celebrity I didn't know) turning up to my birthday, but they seemed to like it so no harm done!

Vespanest · 10/03/2024 08:39

I don’t think the nephew has done them any favours, especially as he is an admirer of the Sussex squad. Harry looks like a deer in the headlights.

Serenster · 10/03/2024 08:47

It is awkwardly timing, Meghan having literally just given a speech condemning online abuse of women as she herself suffered, and having the very next person she visits posting that he loves the Sussex Squad. Who are of course avidly posting some incredibly vile material about Kate just now. Bit of a vetting fail there.

Whatsmynameagain9 · 10/03/2024 08:48

Oh give over, OP

Ifimnottheonethenwhydoesmysoufeelbad · 10/03/2024 08:52

It seems really invasive, why have they inserted themselves into this situation?

MaturingCheeseball · 10/03/2024 08:58

Why “give over” @Whatsmynameagain9

It’s so flippin’ obvious that M&H are on a full-blown publicity onslaught - and being as royal as they can possibly be. They both have the hide of a rhinoceros - not a grain of self-awareness or humility between the two of them.

whoamI00 · 10/03/2024 09:01

I'm not British. not sure if it's relevant but I really don't understand why they visited him? on what status? Let's say I was a victim of a family who suffered tragic event and one day some celebrities visited to my place to see me. How am I supposed to react to their visit? I'm genuinely curious. We don't have royal family in my country. Am I supposed to be happy with seeing some random celebrities's visit? or do they think they'll be welcomed because they were senior royal in the UK? Isn't it some kind of sense of superiority?

I am British and I'd find it utterly bizarre if a member of the RF pitched up at a private (and tragic) family event. Let alone an actress and ex RF member from another country.

Whoever took the photos, they didn't need to be shared on social media as it looks like the crass stunt it almost certainly is.

No I don't understand this either. My view would be the same if it was William and Kate, but I don't think they do this sort of thing anyway (maybe they do, but I think it's more organised formal visits).

march2 · 10/03/2024 09:07

And, actually, a card was all that was needed. But then they wouldn't have the opportunity to gurn into the camera with their faux concerned faces. They always have to be centre stage, even when it's a tragedy being remembered.

minou123 · 10/03/2024 09:07

It's all in the article.

John explained that the pair had 'kept in touch' with the Garcia family regularly since the senseless shooting.
'They keep in touch every other month, sometimes a little longer, but with their busy lives, them visiting truly felt more special,' he said.

Vespanest · 10/03/2024 09:10

Kate, William and certainly Diana did private meet up, William recently surprised the grieving woman doing a charity walk. Maybe this just looks awkward as it is not normally shown this way. I assume Meghan met the family the previous family and have kept in touch, again something many royals do. I just think the nephew hasn’t helped.

Mylovelygreendress · 10/03/2024 09:13

When was this ? Was it while they were in Texas for the event on Friday or another time ? Seems a long way to go to sing Happy Birthday.

GrouchyKiwi · 10/03/2024 09:14

I think it's nice they kept in touch, and if the nephew shared photos then that's up to him.

If the cameras were theirs, though, that's a bit icky.

Mylovelygreendress · 10/03/2024 09:17

Wonder if they keep in touch with any of the other families ?

Ifimnottheonethenwhydoesmysoufeelbad · 10/03/2024 09:18

It seems artificial because Meghan doesn’t really seem to maintain relationships well - Suits cast, Piers Morgan, ex best friends. I’m not going to mention her family cause they deserve to have been dropped. Same could be argued for Harry.

So excuse me for being cynical for assuming there are alterior motives for staying in touch with this family which just so happen to give them brownie points and good publicity.

I only heard of the Sussex squad from reading on here. Have a lot of people heard about them?

Then they’d not have brought photographers and used it to boost their image, they could easily habe done this in private and if the family releases impages fair enough, but they brought the whole media machine so they could leverage it.

its sick

MarchmontSt · 10/03/2024 09:32

All I think when I look at it is that Meghan doesn't look much like Meghan any more. She's a beautiful woman, she really doesn't need to mess with her face.
