I agree. My point was much more about if he wanted to jump ship, there is a real and seemingly insurmountable problem of who to pass his position onto. I think only Andrew would jump at the chance....

it wouldn’t really matter who wanted to do it, it would pass to the next in line who’d have to specifically take themselves out if they wanted to avoid it that strongly - I don’t think many of them would do that. I don’t think many of them want out badly.

Otherwise there would be considerably more of them, rather than just a handful of Kent’s, who’d taken themselves out by converting to Catholicism

Well in that case Andrew will be the last one standing. He looked fine & comfortable at the helm yesterday. He ain't going nowhere.

True didn't think about that. He would definitely need to be removed from the line if succession.

I wouldn't mind the royals bowling out with Princess Anne. I really like her.

OoohLovelySlippers · 28/02/2024 12:15

The theory about William having a panic attack/being unable to do the reading makes sense. Esp if as a pp said, he normally makes a speech at the BAFTAs but didn't this year.

Would he not still try to at least attend the memorial? Esp given he didn't attend the funeral? Although he'd have to explain why he didn't do the reading when he's in the order of service.

I highly doubt there will be a divorce. Their body language etc looks happy to me. The marriage might be happy but yes the stress must be enormous so perhaps Kate is having an operation but making the most of the time to recuperate.

I know a teacher at a school where an EXTREMELY wealthy and high profile person sent her kids in the 2010s. The bodyguard for each child sat at the back of the classroom.

I'm thinking of joining twitter and posting my own conspiracy theories. It sounds like a fun hobby.

Andy and Fergie will remarry and become king and queen says a royal expert.

A royal expert predicting the deaths of Charles, William, all 3 of William’s children, Harry and both of Harry’s children in Andrew’s lifetime doesn’t sound very expert to me.

He can't jump ship because you can't abdicate on behalf of your children. So if he did, he'd leave an underage George as heir. Which is a dick move if you're saying "I don't want it, I'll make my 10 year old have it instead".

Unfortunately Randy Andy is ahead of Anne in the line of succession 😢 Love Anne.

I threw up in my own mouth looking at Prince Andrew. Let "puffed up walrus" be his new nickname! And Fergie like something out of a pantomime.

What have walruses ever done to offend you?

OoohLovelySlippers · 28/02/2024 12:18

@JaneJeffer it was a pp who described him thusly. I'd love to take the credit but cannot!

It's always the simplest of explanations: Kate hasn't got anything to wear to go out in. She's been saying that for weeks now and nobody listens to her!

Of course. But I think - not sure of the legal position - that William could remove his children from the line of succession for as long as they are minors.

Kenthighst · 28/02/2024 12:20

Andrews behaviour was even more deplorable yesterday given the death of Tom Kingston. A death in the Windsor family yet Andy had to be all pomp, ceremony & gusto... 😡

No, he can’t. You can only abdicate for yourself, and as the Dule of Windsor did any future as-yet unborn child.

The only way to take your child out of the line is for them to become Catholic, but I assume there are things in place to stop someone doing that with a direct heir without the permission of the monarch.

I posted the above post before I read this. I'm surprised that a parent can't remove their child whilst that child is a minor? Are you sure?

Obviously it would be unthinkable to leave George in a position he felt he couldn't handle himself. That he wouldn't was implicit in my wondering who would actually take the role on.

Crikeyalmighty · 28/02/2024 12:22

This was very probably related to the death just announced of Thomas Kingston

Fannyfiggs · 28/02/2024 12:22

As soon as you decide to have a child in his position you know they are in the line unless they bring themselves out as an adult (as there’s no way they’d be allowed to convert a child so high in the line to Catholicism)

The grinning and cheery demeanour from both Andrew and Fergie was in the worst possible taste in the circumstances. But I'm not sure those two often get accused of possessing much taste.

HappyMouse · 28/02/2024 12:29

It's been announced Thomas Kingston has passed away.

MaverickBoon · 28/02/2024 12:29

I have to say I'm not a royal-watcher at all (or a monarchist) so don't have much expertise but are people really thinking Kate might be filing for divorce/doing a bunk? I'd be absolutely astonished if that happened!!
