'Just saying something in a book doesn't make it true.'

Don't we just know that1

Maireas · 24/02/2024 10:10

I think you're right, Milkshake - he's not an arrogant or self satisfied man. I think he's tried to do good in his position, and I think history will judge him kindly about The Princes Trust, and other endeavours. It's funny, because I never used to like him, but that's definitely changed over the last few years. I think he's been a decent and dignified person.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 24/02/2024 10:36

Just returning the Harry visa saga. As a man in a genuine marriage to an American citizen, there's no reason why Harry needs the "Genius Visa" or whatever they call it. Surely by now he's be eligible to citizenship/green card status via marriage?

If he applies for citizenship I think he has to give up his title and I really can’t imagine that !

Mylovelygreendress · 24/02/2024 10:44

Slight detour/ pivot but what’s happening with Netflix ? Are there new shows in the offing ? And what about Meghan’s new podcasts ?
I know things can take time to set up but I am not aware of the exciting new projects Meghan alluded to last year .

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 24/02/2024 10:44

But, but, but @Mylovelygreendress the titles have held him back and ruined his life!

The titles define the pair of them.
They will never, ever give those up.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 24/02/2024 10:46

@Mylovelygreendress the shiny new quasi-royal Sussex website makes no mention of Netflix, even as a past triumph.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 24/02/2024 10:50

I think Harry will be fine without the title. He will always be Prince Harold of Dogbowl, second son of Charles and Diana, and brother of the future monarch. It's Meghan who has the most to lose from the titles going, imo. Shame she didn't renounce them herself and make a significant feminist message in doing so. Instead, they have doubled down on them (clearly out of desperation).

Maireas · 24/02/2024 10:51

I particularly like her capitalisation of "The" before "Duchess of Sussex" 😂

Turtlerussell · 24/02/2024 11:00

Ah that’s so sweet - I might send him a get well card if I remember to get around to it!

I can’t believe that’s Harry’s defence - I made it all up! Who lies about taking drugs - if anything he played that part down

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 24/02/2024 11:04

To be fair @Turtlerussell that's not Harry's defence, That's the Dept for Homeland Security's Defence (against the Freedom of Information requests). Having said that, why are they granting someone they think is a fantasist a genius visa?

She’s referred to as “Duchess Meghan” in one of the news pieces. That made me laugh!

Do you follow The Vintage Read Show on YouTube? The presenter has been going chapter by chapter through The Housekeeper's Diary, a book that was banned over here, written in 1995 by the Highgrove housekeeper, Wendy Berry. It's been really interesting to listen to "the help's" view of the behaviors of Charles and Diana. They both sound like a handful, but Diana definitely sounds like the worst of the pair of them in terms of holding grudges, triangulating the children, and taking things out on the staff.

Maireas · 24/02/2024 13:41

No, I've not heard of that.

Omg I will, I will!!

LifeExperience · 24/02/2024 13:56

The problem is that illegal drug use is disqualifying for a US visa, and Harry wrote all about his drug use in Spare. The Heritage Foundation made a Freedom of Information Act request to see his visa application. The government doesn't want to let them see the application and is trying to argue that Harry's admission in his book isn't evidence of actual drug use, which the US legal media is having a big chortle about, saying yes, precedent says that published statements which were asserted to be factual at the time can be used as evidence.

The judge has indicated that he will look at Harry's visa application and make a decision. If it is shown that Harry said on his visa application that he had not taken illegal drugs, then he lied on official documents and is subject to deportation, American wife and child notwithstanding.

So, I was looking for a particular Eton College old boy who is an acquaintance - and I found this.

Oh that sounds interesting!

I think it's a really good channel. the presenter, Shauna, has done analysis of all the major royal books and cross references them/compares and contrasts accounts. She's also done some analysis of books on other public figures.

She did a really interesting deep dive a couple of weeks ago on where the anti-Catherine narrative originates.

Thanks for this, @LifeExperience Can we assume that the only reason that Homeland Security is running the "Spare is unreliable" argument, is that they know full well Harry has lied on the visa application?

RoyallyRhubarb · 24/02/2024 14:14

If Spare is fiction and he made up the drug use, then will he admit that the rest of it is made up too, there was no royal racist and there was no broken dog bowl?
