Hello 👋, I thought it might be nice to have a thread we can discuss our cheesy feelings, food delights and general discourse about the royal family.

I never knew Woolworth’s had cheese. I think we may have a few around still in US.

Our grocery occasionally has people giving out samples. Sometimes cheese, little pizza bites. Random stuff they are selling.

My mum used to buy blocks of 'processed' cheese. I am ashamed to say I loved it; tasted like cheese triangles but firmer.

I like cheese triangles as well, spread on oatcakes. Not to mention Lidl's cheese slices 😝

AliceOlive · 12/02/2024 15:27

It sounds like any of those (processed, triangles, primula) might melt well?

jeffgoldblum · 12/02/2024 15:48

Sorry I had to do crappy chores in town and take the kiddies along for extra joy!!!!
@RocketsMagnificent7 of course you belong! Cheese love is universal!

Went down a bit of a rabbit hole with relation to Woolies and cheese and found this from the Bucks Free Press. A Woolworths cheese scandal 😆

In 1945 the store was involved in a long court case which has its humourous side. The BFP reported on a two day hearing at County Hall, Aylesbury, beginning with “Questions relative to hard rind cheese, hard cheese, holey cheese and soft cheese came up frequently during an appeal case.....” A Southampton firm had been fined £17 7s. at Wycombe Police Court for supplying cheese to Woolworth’s with an incorrect label, which had stated that the cheese was “the finest Gruyere cheese”. Their appeal was dismissed. The manager of the Woolworth’s store in Wycombe at that time was named as Ernest G Rimmell.

Given this is the RF board... Charles the cheese hero!

He is a hero. That is all.

I miss the Woolies.

Ours was in the nearest city but it sold all manner of things and had a record department too. You could spend days in there - well, it always felt that way as a kid. Consumer overload in the nicest way.

I may be mistaken, but I don’t think I am. I will swear down I saw Frank Windsor and Don Estelle there for a promo of whispering grass.

The memory is terrifically vivid. If it is a false memory, then I need an equally vivid one for the lottery.

Anyway, as most will know on here, I’m a hard and black hearted trout.

That song makes me cry nostalgic tears.

Nacho cheese bath showing @jeffgoldblum Fear not 🤣

Maireas · 12/02/2024 16:25

Afternoon, Jeff, Arcane and other wise and witty friends. What a great thread.
To answer a query upthread, cheese talk came as a sort of antidote to the worst kinds of posts on MN: unkind, offensive and cruel.
We'll have none of that on here! All we need is to find out that Anne likes a slice of Wensleydale, Tim serves it to her with a dry sherry, and all will be right with the world 👍

My favourite shop

You forget how beautiful his voice was maireas. We just thought him funny but only when you look back you realise quite how mellifluous it was.

I used to watch it Ain’t Half Hot Mum with my granda.

So long ago but seems like yesterday if you close your eyes…
