Meghan, Duchess of Sussex spotted out and about, part 3

skullbabe · 26/01/2024 11:23

Part 3 of a nice, unproblematic thread to discuss some of the fab outfits from the Duchess of Sussex, and some of the many great causes she (and Harry) and Archewell supports. h/t @queentim for the original threads.

I really liked this outfit and the way the skirt flowed as she walked - really good choice and quite pared back compared to some other people on the red carpet.

How ironic - the nastiness on this thread around Meghan's SXSW's announcement is a perfect illustration of precisely the type of online hatred that will be discussed on the panel, and needs addressed...

This is exactly how it works (or doesn't), folks! 🤔

‘- the nastiness on this thread…is a perfect illustration of precisely the type of online hatred’

Are you really saying that the posters on this thread are really as ‘nasty’ as the Twitter SS that have created fake pictures of Kate and the rest of that online hatred?

🤯

Wow!

skullbabe · 05/03/2024 13:56

Katie Couric was a friend of Epstein, Weinstein and Ailes, but said she never heard a peep of a rumour about them, she worked with Matt Lauer for years and turned a blind eye to him being another sexual predator, i.e. she knew nothing.

To contradict my own point earlier - (Couric wasn’t friends with Ailes or Weinstein) but if you look at who powerful predators charm and who they target - the people who get the charm offensive are people who already have power, status and clout and the targets for abuse are the people whose livelihood depends on them or the disenfranchised. It’s not inconceivable she didn’t know - because predators and abusers work hard to charm.

Interesting……did you see what happened just there?

Edited

I’ve seen quite a bit.

Anyway, good luck with your panel!

AliceOlive · 05/03/2024 13:58

I read today on MSNBC that the Clintons are out flexing again. They are the real reason we won’t seeing more about Epstein. Tell me Bill didn’t know and I’ve got a bridge to sell you.

ArcaneWireless · 05/03/2024 10:10

I’m all for a call for to ‘be kind’.

I’m not so much in favour to mention the SM rammy around Kate in any SM bullying speech.

Given that the nastiness escalated after the OW interview and various snippets from them and that mouthpiece, nothing was done to refute or retract any comments. It would seem somewhat hypocritical to care now.

It isn’t only SM that needs reining in but the actions that feed it. 🌱

I agree with this.

Practice what you preach.

MM repeating MSM and SM slurs on the huge OW platform around ‘waity Katie’ - just crashes any integrity or authenticity to the ‘call to action’ of the SXSW panel.

Also how can you bang on about equity when you insist on titling yourself The Duchess?

Just so delusional not to see the grandiosity in that context.

puddlehopper · 05/03/2024 14:04

Where is the nastiness ?

Some posters are commenting on the hypocrisy of it all, I think thats allowed. Couric even admitted to being a bully in her autobiography. Others have agreed with her.

""One anonymous source says, “[Couric] definitely contributed to the toxicity [at NBC]. Katie was part of a culture that wasn’t supportive of women, and she contributed to it.”""

Another said, of an incident at the Sydney Olympics where she reportedly humiliated Banfield, “Here was America’s so-called sweetheart, showing she was no supporter of her colleague or another woman and she openly took joy in the fact that she’d at first blocked Ashleigh from being on set.'

We all know Meghan has been accused of workplace bullying, which was never disproved, and we have seen her bullying in action with our very own eyes on numerous times on TV

Adding those two as speakers just shows how you can buy your way onto any platform for publicity, no moral compass needed.

AlbertoDilemma · 05/03/2024 14:04

Oh absolutely nobody knew anything about Harvey Weinstein, including the sainted Oprah. It's amazing how blind all these strong, feminist women are to the abuse of their colleagues. Funnily enough, the ones that did speak up are the ones that are vilified by the left these days.

On a fashion note: Brooke Shields supports the fur trade. Hard to justify that in this day and age, imo.

... Don't want to derail the thread, but as we're trying to anticpate how the panel could go... here's what VF have to say about Katie Couric, Matt Lauer and supporting women in media:

"Couric insisted, however, that the parts of her memoir that have been leaked ahead of its release have “been wildly misrepresented,” except for how shocked she was to learn of the sexual misconduct allegations against her longtime Today coanchor, Matt Lauer. She said that discovery hit her “really, really hard,” adding, “It took me a long time to process what was going on, because the side of Matt I knew was the side of Matt I think you all knew: He was kind and generous and considerate, a good colleague.” She continued, “As I got more information and learned what was going on behind the scenes, it was really upsetting and disturbing.” So she decided to do “some of my own reporting” and “really tried to excavate what had been going on. And it was really devastating but also disgusting. I think what I realized is there was a side of Matt I never really knew. And I tried to understand why he behaved the way he did—and why he was so reckless and callous and, honestly, abusive to other women.” She also clarified that they now “have no relationship.”

"The journalist also defended her confession that in her heyday she was unwelcoming to “charismatic female correspondents” in a bid to “protect my turf.” She confessed, “I think that when there are very few jobs for women and men are making decisions not necessarily based on the right criteria, that sometimes you do get insecure, and sometimes you do get territorial. I think it’s human nature.” But she insisted that despite that, she “never, never, never, never” actively tried to sabotage her colleagues’ careers. “I think I just wish that maybe I had extended myself more and shown people the ropes a little bit more. But I think when people are outwardly kind of vying for your job, it is hard to be generous,” she said."

We'll have to wait till Friday to see how the panel moderator navigates this particular minefield...

Katie Couric Calls Matt Lauer “Disgusting” and “Abusive” During ‘Today’ Show Return

She also stands by everything she’s written in her memoir, explaining that it was important to her to write something “honest and radically transparent.”

It will be interesting to observe the body language and verbal interactions to see who gets to dominate the discussion - or if they can be truly collaborative and constructive.

I forgot about that with Couric. I think it will be interesting to see if she addresses it.

AlbertoDilemma · 05/03/2024 14:47

I hope someone watching their addresses count the number of times these women say me and I. None of them strike me s being "feminists" for other women's sakes, only to further their own images.

Boy oh boy! Meghan’s gonna be well and truly out and about for IWD.

Impressive lineup of fabulous women, incredibly relevant topic - should be super interesting!

Some people are absolutely going to lose their sh*t at the thought of Meghan on such a platform…

Maybe they should get used to it? 🤣 True, it’s been a while but it’s not like she’s never publicly spoken about women’s issues before… she’s been an activist since age 13.

Interesting bedfellows....

The (highly respected) Aspen Institute has a Commission on Information Disorder that "aims to identify and prioritize the most critical sources and causes of information disorder and deliver a set of short-term actions and longer-term goals to help government, the private sector, and civil society respond to this modern-day crisis of faith in key institutions".

That’s appalling. She’s gone down in my estimation, there’s no need for it. At least Meghan doesn’t usually promote brands that use fur, although I’m still waiting for her to disown mackage, they use rabbit fur. I live near a huge warren and it’s lovely seeing them running around in the summer.

And why is would anyone consider being in the company of a Murdoch anything to aspire to?

I thought the one thing everyone agreed on on these threads was being anti-Murdoch

AlbertoDilemma · 05/03/2024 23:40

Only when it suits them @Porkfest Social media and independent media is crushing print media and mainstream broadcast media, so the Murdochs have a vested interest in getting under the dirty sheets with Aspen, and Harry doesn't have any principles, just his own grievances.

Turtlerussell · 05/03/2024 23:45

So Murdoch and Harry have things in common. Crushing of dissent…first step to dictatorship 😉
