Meghan, Duchess of Sussex spotted out and about, part 3

Part 3 of a nice, unproblematic thread to discuss some of the fab outfits from the Duchess of Sussex, and some of the many great causes she (and Harry) and Archewell supports. h/t @queentim for the original threads.

I really liked this outfit and the way the skirt flowed as she walked - really good choice and quite pared back compared to some other people on the red carpet.

I’d be happy for Meghan to talk about her abuse online as well as Camilla’s, the harassment of Diana and Fergie, the abuse of Katherine. Its the saddest part that the married in women become the targets of media and now online. Yet fans of the women also choose to target the women they see as competition as an act of defence. Yesterday’s delight was mocked up domestic violence photo of Kate. Harry, William and Charles barely a peep of the abuse compared to the women.

Yes. Perhaps she'll surprise us all! I mean poor Camilla had years of it, oh but hang on didn't Harold add to it by being an absolute arsehole about her in Spare?

He perhaps needs to attend the event to learn what not to gossip about to the trashy media.

ArcaneWireless · 05/03/2024 13:05

I find it quite odd that some see things in posts that aren’t there.

Repeatedly. 🫧

Awwwwwwwww....... 🤗🤗🤗

"Meghan Markle has been named as one of the keynote panellists at the South by Southwest (SXSW) series of festivals and conferences taking place from March 8-16 in Austin, Texas.
The Duchess is in great company, with Emmy award-winning journalist Katie, Erin, host of The Amendment podcast and founding Mother and Editor-at-Large for The 19th News, Brooke - who is a two-time Golden Globe award-nominee and author, sociologist, pop culture expert, and last but not least, Nancy, who is a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Consultant at Peoplism."

All you saying that posters on this thread have done that mocked up picture?

Where on earth did anyone say that? This feels like an attempt at a “gotcha.”

It IS disturbing that SS does what they do and then get direct contact and praise from H&M in return. They’ve made social media and bullying their cause. If they don’t know, they really should.

But how would anyone here know if it was done by others here though. We couldn’t possibly. I assume not, but it a hope rather than informed guessing.

Meghan would be annihilated if she even whispers Catherines' name, she should stay well away from using Catherine as an example of online abuse.

Particularly given who is behind it all.

Absolutely.
One would hope she wouldn’t be that stupid.

skullbabe · 05/03/2024 13:18

It’s so odd - she cannot win for losing - so you have some people wanting her to speak and some also not wanting her to speak. No matter what she does it will be wrong.

Meghan has enough of her own experience to talk about the subject, the absolutely disgusting things from Piers Morgan is plenty alaloneand even after that supposed game of thrones reference he has go on to say more.

At least she is speaking up about it.

On fsct the palace as an institution needs to chnage and start being more robust in knocking back the ways all royal women are treated in the press and social media. Seems like they've started to abit with this situation with Kate.

She could say generally about the abuse generated by many of her fanbase (not those on here I hasten to add! I'm talking about Twitter etc) and she could say that is not ok either. But I'd bet a tenner that she won't.

It'll be loads of 'poor us! Our dc will not be subject to such vitriol oh hang on we're just releasing a book/reality show/chat show where we encourage the misinformation and attack the rf thus increasing sm pile ons' 🥱.

Actions speak louder than your many, many words Sussexes! <in case they're reading Grin>.

That’s celebrity though.

I think it’s great for her to have more opportunities to get involved in causes of all kinds. But I think the over-hyped comparisons to the achievements of others are anti-feminist and unkind to her.

And after her mocking comments about Kate’s decade plus of experience with media bullying on Oprah, it would just fall flat.

You can’t do that to another women and come off well.

She can't do right for doing wrong

AliceOlive · 05/03/2024 13:28

Bit like what Kate is going through now, obviously. People won’t just let her recuperate. They have to constantly second guess and criticize.

I guess it’s probably much much worse when you are ill though.

She can speak! just tell the whole story not her cherry picked version. So, for example say 'I know we have some rabid supporters <not mumsnetters I need to reiterate> that post malicious crap online and I'd like ro say I do not want that either'.

Can we stop with the 'she cant do right/she can't win' stuff. It's like a Sussex broken record. They can do right, they just choose not to.

... with some vocal people, who, it turns out, are easily ignored...

AliceOlive · 05/03/2024 13:34

She is going to get ratio in US for using a title granted to her in UK for marrying a guy while speaking at a women’s forum.

That is just predictable. Can’t imagine any feminist not seeing that.

I personally try to take valid discussion on board. I think everyone reads it even if they choose to not reply.

TallerSally · 05/03/2024 13:39

I'm a bit intrigued as to why Katie Couric is on the panel alongside Meghan.

OK, she's had a massive career as one of the highest-profile female anchors on US television, with blockbuster interviews of US presidents etc across NBC, CBS, ABC for years and years...

But has she been a visible supporter of other women in media? Not so sure...

I think many are going to be confused about a woman of her achievements being alongside Meghan.

But let them all speak and let’s see. I’m sure all women have something to share no matter their background.

skullbabe · 05/03/2024 13:42

I think Katie Couric is a big coup and is the biggest name on the panel - but I agree that her advocacy leaves a little to be desired especially with the Matt Lauer stuff several years ago. I think the first season with “The Morning Show” drew heavily on that dynamic.

OP posts:
AliceOlive · 05/03/2024 13:43

I think you’ll also find that many people don’t do the work just for the photos and accolades. They don’t hype their own contributions.

skullbabe · 05/03/2024 13:43

Interesting……did you see what happened just there?

OP posts:
puddlehopper · 05/03/2024 13:45

Most people (and I do know its NOT everyone), but the majority of those who have an interest in what Meghan does, view her as a hypocrite and not genuine.

Katie Couric was a friend of Epstein, Weinstein and Ailes, but said she never heard a peep of a rumour about them, she worked with Matt Lauer for years and turned a blind eye to him being another sexual predator, i.e. she knew nothing.

Unsavoury rumours swirling for a while now about Tyler Perry, and if /when it does come out, of course, none of his friends will have known anything.

These people should be looking closer to home and helping to expose and clean up what the big players are getting up to

It's all seen so disingenuous to see them spouting about online bullying and making SM safer.
