Meghan, Duchess of Sussex spotted out and about, part 3

Part 3 of a nice, unproblematic thread to discuss some of the fab outfits from the Duchess of Sussex, and some of the many great causes she (and Harry) and Archewell supports. h/t @queentim for the original threads.

I really liked this outfit and the way the skirt flowed as she walked - really good choice and quite pared back compared to some other people on the red carpet.

Thanks for that article @TallerSally and although I linked it on the previous thread, I feel it's worth repeating what the Jamaican press are saying. They sound flummoxed with what our media is saying. I don't blame them

That article is more about politics than H and M. They are using them like pawns in their cause.

I’m in small town US. People literally wear pajamas in the streets.

That has to be better than the highly favoured shorts and T shirt combo.

I agree. It's yet another faux pas. Or another veiled dig at W&K

mrsmingleton · 26/01/2024 16:26

Sorry I didn't explain properly - H and M are being used by the Jamaican politicians who favour withdrawal from the Commonwealth in an article which purports to say one thing but is very much about something else.

mrsmingleton · 26/01/2024 16:28

It's been many a year since I was in a Caribbean cinema but it involved a snake and loads of men whooping "give it to her , boy" 😂🐍

Yes I agree

Bag dupe

I must admit the many times I have been to the cinema in the Carribbean have been indistinguishable from cinema visits in the US, UK and southern Africa I have visited - not sure what kind of cinema would have had that kind of whooping but to each their own I suppose.

Love the bag @skullbabe but might be a bit rigid for my clobber!
AND I've been away and bought two new handbags I love but don't need

Daisyislazy · 26/01/2024 16:45

It's not one of my favourite looks but she does look extremely elegant

mrsmingleton · 26/01/2024 16:46

I'm not making it up @skullbabe - just a regular local cinema called the Columbus ( of course it would be ). There are so many types of cinema in all of these countries - distinguishable oh yes. The whooping? Local men enjoying a bit of romance in a movie.😂

She looks massively over dressed for the event & her dress is too long. Everyone around them in the cinema was casually dressed.

This is correct. I saw footage of them being shown to their seats - they were sitting amongst a lot of very casually dressed people. Meghan struggled to fit her skirt into the cinema seat. It was a bit weird, they looked very out of place.

Even though there were a lot of dressed up people?
If Meghan 'dressed down' that would be wrong too. And an insult to Jamaica no doubt!

The other dressed up people were at the front . The man behind H and M was wearing a baseball cap.

CactusMactus · 26/01/2024 17:25

She looks beautiful.

wildernesssw · 26/01/2024 17:35

It seems a bit odd. If they were there in their private capacity (a long way to fly for a film) then a bit overdressed. If there as invited celebs then why seated so far back?

Anyway, lovely skirt for a formal 'do', but I don't think the top worked, it was a bit 'PJ' up top and super-formal below

Shock horror, how very dare he 😂

Charlingspont · 26/01/2024 17:36

I think she was beautifully dressed, but the seating arrangements were poor. I guess I had assumed they'd be sitting at the front, and I do wonder if Jamaica was making a point in seating them where they did. But then again, it wasn't a state occasion or anything, just a film premiere, so maybe seating plans meant nothing.

pilates · 26/01/2024 17:40

I don’t think the top and bottom complimented each other. I would like to see her with her hair loose some of the time rather than scraped back.

Alohapotato · 26/01/2024 17:44

I love the skirt so elegant, top not so much...

wildernesssw · 26/01/2024 17:47

Yes, a mismatch

wildernesssw · 26/01/2024 17:48

Top would be great with a different bottom half. And skirt amazing but too formal for the top

skullbabe · 26/01/2024 17:52

The other dressed up people were at the front.

There were also well dressed people in their row and the rows in front of them. as said in Part 2 - the best dressed are the famous people, the cast, politicians and people of note at a premiere. However, premieres are not limited to just these people - you will have the crew, musicians, journalists and some members of the public. All of these people will be in various stages of dress - have a look at any film premiere and you will see people dressed smart casual in the background queuing to get into the cinema in contrast to the "famous people" who come in later and get ushered to their seats.

The point is she was neither over nor under dressed for the occasion.

OP posts:
EdgarsTale · 26/01/2024 17:52

She is over dressed. The others sat around them are dressed in casual clothes, so it looks strange. Harry looks more casual/scruffy.

I think he missed the email chain that went round, telling all the guests what to wear and coordinating outfits.

Or it was a set up. I imagine the conversation went something like this:

"Damn it James, you said you weren't in a suit, and look there's Marg in frilly dress!

For God sakes man the Minister of Culture is wearing sparkly bits!

And here I am like a biscuit in my cap, sat behind the Duchess of Sussex in her all black and ballgown style skirt! YOU BASTARD!!!!"
