Meghan, Duchess of Sussex spotted out and about, part 3

Part 3 of a nice, unproblematic thread to discuss some of the fab outfits from the Duchess of Sussex, and some of the many great causes she (and Harry) and Archewell supports. h/t @queentim for the original threads.

I really liked this outfit and the way the skirt flowed as she walked - really good choice and quite pared back compared to some other people on the red carpet.

That has to be better than the highly favoured shorts and T shirt combo.

What would you suggest as an alternative to shorts and a Tshirt in temps above 30°C and humidity you could cut with a knife?

Roussette · 26/01/2024 19:26

mrsmingleton · 26/01/2024 19:20

@Roussette

Here we are in photos: Hollywood V Carib 5 in Kingston.

Hollywood typical premiere venue - very posh and you would get dressed up.

Carib 5 - not posh and you would not get dressed up as if you were in Hollywood.

Edited

My goodness. You are comparing Hollywood cinema to Jamaica cinema

Not sure how to respond to be honest. And what the point is.

We're not speaking about a top venue here - we are talking about the Carib 5.

It's a Jamaican venue, in Jamaica, where a movie about one of Jamaica's heroes was aired. The venue was 100% suitable for the movie and its subject.

Are you trying to imply that there's something second rate about the venue?

Are you referring to Jamaica or the small town where the poster lives?

I'm not saying it is second rate but I am saying that it is not Grauman's and you would therefore dress in a more suitable way. Maybe you need to read the whole thread.

thepressoutside · 26/01/2024 19:31

Ah, so a "Hollywood or London" red carpet and venue and more deserving of certain dress than a "Jamaican or Caribbean" red carpet and venue

There's something I'm not comfortable with here

Thank you. That's what was getting to but couldn't quite put my finger on it

Fortunately they do not need their public/SM profile, as they are multi-millionaires by inheritance. Their public profile is by choice.

'All the Jamaican politicians and celebrities were well dressed'

Well dressed, fine. I'm not suggesting shorts and flip flops. A ball gown though as if attending the Oscars was typically Tone Deaf Sussex

It wasn't a ball gown. That ensemble wasn't anything like an Oscars gown.

Hats off to you for bringing such passion to your attempt at a hatchet job - but your agenda here is very obvious, and your comments are silly.

It's not about "deserving" - don't try to bring things up that aren't there. It's about suitability.

Nope. I think when Meghan showed she was at her breaking point in S. Africa, but luckily Harry took her away from there

Not at all - read the comments. It's pretty normal BUT NOT A TYPICAL HOLLYWOOD PREMIERE VENUE.

And therefore not a typical Hollywood premiere outfit.

It wasn't flashy, it wasn't blingy, it was monochrome and tasteful, her hair and makeup were not designed to overshadow anyone else - she was there to pay respect to a Jamaican icon whose music was known and loved throughout the world, not to turn it into The Meghan and Harry Show, and she succeeded.

thepressoutside · 26/01/2024 19:37

mrsmingleton · 26/01/2024 19:34

It's not about "deserving" - don't try to bring things up that aren't there. It's about suitability.

Except, as been explained numerous times, what attendees wore to celebrate the premiere of a national and global musical icon, was quite suitable.

You are the one who keeps trying to pigeon hole your ideas going on now 5 pages of a thread.

So don't blame posters for responding to your own words.

Totally agree. I thought it was just me who felt uncomfortable with some of the comments.
Some posters need to be really careful about the way they are coming across.

No - a large chunk of that was trying to explain the point to @Roussette .
What YOU think is suitable, others don't - it's really that simple.

Can you elaborate on that @Lampzade as I was the one who posted photos of the venues?

I am responding to your comment, which was in response to the comment on the small town/ pajamas.

Americans and Jamaicans alike live in areas where there are hot summer temperatures and high humidity. Apart from northern Maine, the coastal northwest, and the desert southwest, high humidity is the order of the day in the US in summer.

Furthermore, you've gone on now about a certain standard for certain countries.

You introduced it, so people are free to comment on your comments.

Gee whizz that's exactly what I said. To correct you though I didn't say it was for different countries but different venues. I would say the same thing if it was some poky little cinema in Wigan. Not the place for extravagant clothing LA premiere style.

Happens all the time. Those undertones are there regularly. Those doing the baiting know what they are doing and don't care. Best ignored most of the time. Watching the frenzy as they try to outdo each other can be amusing in a pathetic sense at times. Then you get the name changes and the cycle starts again.
