Meghan, Duchess of Sussex spotted out and about, part 3

Part 3 of a nice, unproblematic thread to discuss some of the fab outfits from the Duchess of Sussex, and some of the many great causes she (and Harry) and Archewell supports. h/t @queentim for the original threads.

I really liked this outfit and the way the skirt flowed as she walked - really good choice and quite pared back compared to some other people on the red carpet.

A quick Google doesn't show any connection with Jamaica except for her first wedding?

YouJustDoYou · 26/01/2024 18:35

Her "dress sense" is usually utterly horrendous and she almost always gets it hideously wrong, but this dress wasn't too bad, though looked out of place compared with everyone else.

skullbabe · 26/01/2024 18:35

A Bob Marley film in the Caribbean if there was ever a time not to dress like an over privileged celeb surely this was it, surelyHarold who went barefoot at one of his climate change jaunts should've thought less is more

All the Jamaican politicians and celebrities were well dressed - have you seen the culture secretary? How about Ziggy Marley? How about the President and his wife? How spectaulary rude it would have been for Harry to dress down for an event which means so very much to many peope in Jamaica - especially when so many notable Jamaicans who were there made the effort to dress up.

'All the Jamaican politicians and celebrities were well dressed'

Well dressed, fine. I'm not suggesting shorts and flip flops. A ball gown though as if attending the Oscars was typically Tone Deaf Sussex

Isn't it odd how some of us can be at complete opposites, that's fine, it's the nature of opinion
I love her style, she doesn't always get it right but I would look to her for different styles

wildernesssw · 26/01/2024 18:43

There's also a good reason for Jamaican politicians and celebs to attend a premiere about Bob Marley. Not so sure on the connection with H&M?

Look at the video of them being shown to their seats (seats which Harry clearly wasn't happy with). They are literally seated in front of a guy in a baseball cap and a woman who appears to be wearing a shell suit is a few seats down. Meghan was overdressed. She looked good though but had to have been uncomfortable in her seat with the full skirt and also with it brushing along the slightly grubby floor

Edited

I thought the baseball cap guy might be their security.

FloofCloud · 26/01/2024 18:43

There's a referendum this year about Jamaica leaving the comminwealth - interesting H&M jump into a bandwagon perhaps 🤔

Good for them. If the majority want to leave then leave. There is no obligation to stay.

Lampzade · 26/01/2024 18:45

Harry and Meghan were very well received in Jamaica and that is what counts.
Great publicity for the film which I will definitely watch when it is released

Let's face it. Whatever she wore would be wrong. And criticised endlessly
I know that

Indeed. Poor Harry, always trying to grab the limelight whilst kicking his family yet pretending to be a vip Royal at the same time. He doesn't know if he's coming or going does he.

Someone give him an identity and purpose please.

After witnessing the negative articles about the Jamaican PM by the British Media, I wouldn’t blame the Jamaicans if they voted to leave the Commonwealth.

I don’t think that he has to try very hard.
The British media are obsessed with Harry and Meghan.

Eh?
The referendum is to remove King C as the Head of State. Not to leave the Commonwealth

https://www.orfonline.org/expert-speak/king-charles-jamaican-farewell

It costs nothing for a former British colony to stay in the Commonwealth and gives citizens many rights if they come to the UK... including voting in national elections. Scholarships, ability to take up certain diplomatic roles etc. Not sure why anybody would bother to leave?

There are many, many other Commonwealth nations that have their own Head of State. Like India. And Malaysia. The King isn't Head of State for most CW countries

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-43715079

Malaysia for example has 9 kings for its 9 states that retained their royal families when all the nation-states joined to form the country. One of them takes turns every 5 years to be the overall head of state they don't need King C in the mix as well!

FloofCloud · 26/01/2024 18:54

@wildernesssw absolutely! It's just the irony that H&M turn up

The global media are interested in this very odd and contrary pair, it isn't just the Evil British Media. Harry is sadly more a figure of derision now. It's very sad.

Some people think the Commonwealth is Empire 2. I think it was said in a reality show or a book but it can't quite recall by whom..
