Wishing, Princess Kate a speedy and full recovery from me and my family.
Looking forward to Kate and William doing their bit for the UK soon.
A great family that is adored around the world.

I never read the tabloids thanks but the story is second or high in ranking in most of the broadsheets you mention. Similar prominence on the radio, even on supposedly respectable channels. It’s like a national drug! You can almost hear the odious royal correspondents licking their lips!

Well, there are many stories in the broadsheets. You can easily ignore the ones on Kate, and read all the others.
No, I can't hear the royal reporters' licking their lips when I read the Independent. I'm guessing they just printed a press release. There's a lot going on besides this, no need to focus on it if you don't want to.

These threads must be attracting some real oddballs.

OMG yes! There are some utterly weird, frienzied posts - some of them hardly comprehensible. Oh dear. What the poor Princess of Wales has ever done to these people is baffling.

Angrycat2768 · 18/01/2024 13:41

Viviennemary · 18/01/2024 12:19

The point is they might choose to do things for themselves. But there is an army of back up staff there when needed. Which is a far cry from the average family.

They ( or their PR) really need to stop their the 'just like you' act. It is possibly the reason, along with their long history of doing the bare minimum and using their children as an excuse that has caused the cynicism about William. Most people who are not wilful sycophants know that William may want to be there for the kids when they come back from school, but he is not doing the hoovering and laundry, no matter how small their house is. They live on the Windsor Estate. They choose to cook. If they don't fancy it or can't, someone else will do it.

Fringepolitics294 · 18/01/2024 13:48

Butteredtoast55 · 18/01/2024 13:40

People can be compassionate about two things at the same time: a woman in the public eye with young children needing significant and seemingly unexpected surgery and a tiny dot dying needlessly because we live in a world where we've stopped noticing or caring about real people on our doorstep.
It's not the PoWs fault that this happened at the same time as the tragic death of a child. The media have more scope for copy with Kate (who is visiting etc) or would you prefer they grub around for details on the lives of the Battersbys and the people who might (or might not) have prevented Bronson's death so people can discuss it?

Oh come on that’s an artificially constructed comparison and argument if I ever I saw one! Of course I don’t want the press digging around the private lives of potentially vulnerable individuals. I want them focusing on the institutional ineptitude, incompetence and greed that has led to vital public services being run down or erased that otherwise could have helped that poor child survive. And secondly I want the focus off privilege embedded in the heart of our society as represented by the RF and others and more focus on the thousands of children living below the poverty line in the uk.

Edited

I agree that The Independent is one of the more tolerable newspapers currently.

Of course people can care about other issues. It’s about the level of emphasis, I can guess which threads filled up the fastest on Mumsnet yesterday.

The thread about the PoW was full
of gossip and speculation as to what might be wrong with her. Do you propose that people fill up a thread with speculation about the poor little boy and his family? I am pretty sure everyone is appalled by what happened so what would be gained by speculating over it on a forum? I don’t think you need to take the moral high ground

Timeandtidy · 18/01/2024 13:57

Urcheon · 18/01/2024 10:24

So you’re admiring of them because they smile and wave and never say or do anything that betrays a hint of anything other than duty, and because the media hasn’t grubbed up any scandal on either, if we overlook William’s rumoured affair, his reputed war with his brother, Kate’s ‘Wisteria Sisters’ reputation and rumoured entrapment of a Prince courtesy of her social climber mother’s aspirational campaign, her see-through student fashion show dress, topless photos/ anorexia etc etc.?

Right. That’s an excellent reason to admire total strangers.

Wow, just wow. This has got to be one of the most bitchy posts I have ever read on Mumsnet.

Pure poison.

MummyJ12 · 18/01/2024 14:00

@Fringepolitics294 Would that be the anti-monarchy Independent owned mainly by the Sultan and the Russian who was controversially nominated for a peerage by Bo-Jo who is guilty of stripping this country of any kind of decent service?!

That’s because they go fu*k all so any news is newsworthy.

Royalists are nutters. The funniest of all are the ones who stand waving little flags while the royal family walk to church but the funniest of all was when Kate walked up a cobbled path pushing an old Silver Cross while wearing heels. The person who told her to do that must have really disliked her.

I wasn’t singing its praises MummyJ12; I said it was “more tolerable” in its reporting than the others.

Year 6 what's app group speak.. maybe autumn term year 7. After that most people grow up. The bitchy posters on the royal family forum are full of bile, oh dear.

I'm no royalist but look at the US, no king, no queen, no princes nor princesses, yet more socially unequal than the UK.

he NHS is in a dire, dire state but Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Spain have excellent healthcare systems despite being monarchies. The US fares much worse but no monarch to blame for their horrendous healthcare system.

The posts on here are dumber than dumb 🤓.

Gottseidank · 18/01/2024 15:25

What's disturbing is that quite a lot of those posting the most spiteful things are posters who have previously identiified themselves as fans of Harry and Meghan.

It would seem the 'Sussex Squad' are among the most toxic people online.

I disagree as the craziest posts on MN are the anti Meghan Markle ones. Even the founder of this site described the anti MM posters as 'deranged'.

Why even mention MM on this thread at all?

Utter derangement.

I think @LadyPineapples post proves your point.
Why raise the subject of Meghan at all?

Republicanism is far from dumb. That an entire family in 2024 are somehow intrinsically higher status than others and afforded huge reverence and privilege owing to an accident of birth is the height of “dumbness” imho , if you want to use that word.

And if you read my posts correctly I was talking about focus on the wrong things. If we all just spent half an hour visiting our local MP and discussing the provision of food banks it would be a better use of time than reading articles about the royals.

But as you have brought the subject up RomeoAndJools you may have noticed that Scandanavian royal families do not give themselves quite the same airs and graces as our lot.

Denmark for example deemed it completely satisfactory to sign a book and proclamate their new king rather than spending approximately £75 million pounds charged to the tax payer for the Coronation which was completely unnecessary following the huge ceremony of the late Queen’s funeral which cost the taxpayer approximately £161.7 million.

Just think of the good that that money could have done if it had been spent judiciously.

MaturingCheeseball · 18/01/2024 15:58

It’s not Meghan herself, but the nasty band of fans, some of whom (not all) on here are also on SussexSquad and have posted terrible things, and in the last day hoping Kate would die from this surgery. What the hell is the matter with them?

I can’t in my wildest dreams imagine saying that about anybody - possibly some murderers/terrorists but even then I wouldn’t actually write that I hoped somebody would die.

treadingonlego · 18/01/2024 16:06

Agree. I saw some horrific posts on X/ Twitter earlier . Hoping Catherine dies .

Are you ok? It sounds like there's something going on in your life if you're this triggered. Please point to exactly what I said that is "anti-Kate"? Why are you writing like a stompy five-year-old and randomly attacking me for voicing an opinion about the priorities of the media?

RomeoAndJools · 18/01/2024 16:12

I don't believe I mentioned any individual posters @Fringepolitics294 but if you self identify as dumb, suit yourself. I suppose it must be true as you seem to infer from my post that I said 'republicanism is dumb.' I suppose if you read MN on a mobile, it might be challenging to get the gist? In any case, being against or for anything does not excuse this vile and unintelligent mob mentality. Which is what we see on these threads. The dumbest shout the loudest, plus ca change. I can picture some of the RF posters enjoying watching a good medieval market hanging. Mob mentality, as amplified by the ease of tapping a post button to share their innermost dumbness. 😂

Samcro · 18/01/2024 16:12

good grief that is awful @Mylovelygreendress
personally I hope both her and KC are ok.
don't agree with the gushing op. but wishing ill or trying to make up the most prosperous reason Kate might be in hospital for is awful.

Butteredtoast55 · 18/01/2024 16:14

@Fringepolitics294
I don't not know about an artificially constructed argument. It's what I believe - that I can hope someone recovers from surgery and isn't seriously ill whilst also feeling horrified at what has happened to a child.
The media coverage on Bronson Battersby is inevitably turning up the family's past history and I find that incredibly distasteful.
Am I angry about the state of public services and social care? Of course I am. I work in a field that includes helping families like Bronson's and the lack of resources sickens me. Does that mean I can't care about anything else? Of course not.

I bet you don’t have a Christmas Day and sit in the rain to watch them walk to church, as they are so relatable.
