It would be odd to need to stay in hospital for 10-14 days for a hysterectomy, 5-7 is usual. It is things like brain surgery, some heart surgeries, joint replacements, or psychiatric reasons that would mean longer hospitalisations. And the press release definitely says abdominal. Hopefully the media stops banging on about it & gives the family the privacy they asked for the beebs is currently announcing it every five minutes.

FrancisSeaton · 17/01/2024 14:34

I was out after a day for a hysterectomy

Given that the palace described the Queen's terminal cancer as periodic mobility problems I don't find their use of 'routine' here very reassuring. Apparently healthy 42 year olds don't usually need 10 days in hospital for their recovery for minor issues. It maybe elective but it's not minor.

Could be appendicitis, hernia etc

ralpix · 17/01/2024 14:34

2 weeks is a very long time for recuperation, even for major surgery.

If they wanted privacy they shouldn’t have announced it. No one would have noticed (or cared much) if she disappeared for two weeks.

MacLaine · 17/01/2024 14:36

It won’t be that long at all. She’ll be discharged in a few days with the longer time period being a cover story.

BelandtheDragon · 17/01/2024 14:36

Appendicitis does not come under planned surgery; it’s an emergency.

Mylovelygreendress · 17/01/2024 14:37

I do hope she recovers quickly and that there are no snarky comments .
It does seem a long time to be in hospital . I was only in for 4 days after cancer surgery !

It's also very rarely a two week recovery unless a perforation

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 17/01/2024 14:37

I don't believe she'll be in for a fortnight. That's for people who are seriously and unexpectedly ill or injured and start off in HDU.

They definitely would have.

But I imagine the knee jerk reaction to releasing a statement was probably because a journalist found out and was going to publish the story so they got ahead of the game to control the narrative.

Im waiting for the speculation that I just know is coming.

FrancisSeaton · 17/01/2024 14:38

@KarenNotAKaren HG again?

Lucy377 · 17/01/2024 14:38

I suspect they've purposely given the two weeks to cover every eventually.

If they said a week, and then it was 8 days
then imagine the headlines.

She may well only stay a week.

bobomomo · 17/01/2024 14:39

@FlatWhiteExtraHot

I suspect a journalist has got wind and planned to break the story. It has already been noted she had not taken her kids to school since Christmas. Better to put a statement out giving a few details then asking for privacy

BobnLen · 17/01/2024 14:39

They probably gave worst case scenario to the reporters or if she weren't out quite quickly people would be wondering why.

Sisterpita · 17/01/2024 14:39

I just hope she is OK. As visits are being postponed I assume they had to explain why, other than that I hope her privacy is respected.

KarenNotAKaren · 17/01/2024 14:39

FrancisSeaton · 17/01/2024 14:38

@KarenNotAKaren HG again?

Nope.

if she was pregnant I imagine they’d announce it ‘early’ like they have with her other pregnancies.

purplerainbows88 · 17/01/2024 14:39

Could be cosmetic - after 3 kids who would blame her!

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 17/01/2024 14:39

William has cancelled all his engagements until she’s out of hospital and had a period at home means they had to announce something - both of them cancelling engagements would have been noticed

FrancisSeaton · 17/01/2024 14:39

What speculation do you mean then?

pondpatrol · 17/01/2024 14:40

I had my gallbladder out and was in for a week after but mine had ruptured and it wasn't planned. I hope she's ok too.

upwardsonwards · 17/01/2024 14:40

FlatWhiteExtraHot · 17/01/2024 14:34

I’m sure she’s reading here and will be very grateful 🙄

That’s what I’d been doing after 10-14 days in hospital, reading MN. 🤣

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 17/01/2024 14:40

purplerainbows88 · 17/01/2024 14:39

They would have slotted that in during the gaps in engagements rather than them both cancelling engagements last minute

sisplaydet · 17/01/2024 14:40

I'd think the duration may have been inflated to throw the press off the scent a bit. So she can leave via a back door sooner than 10 days.

MailMe1 · 17/01/2024 14:41

It’s planned surgery so I think a hysterectomy
