I hope she recovers speedily and that the ghouls don’t start to creepily debate on what’s wrong with her.

Of course people will speculate. These statements are released with just enough detail to pique people’s interest, but never enough to be comprehensive. I do believe that Kate deserves her privacy, but at the same time, if the palace came straight out and said she has had a hysterectomy, appendectomy or whatever it would likely quell the guessing game.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 17/01/2024 14:49

Regardless of whatever the surgery is for, she will be away from her children for a good while, so it will be difficult for all

porridgeisbae · 17/01/2024 14:50

I wonder what she's having done. It does sound relatively major if they're not expecting her to do any public duties for that long.

She has often looked a bit peaky. Glam, but so thin.

FFS stop spreading misinformation about the medical conditions of women you don’t know! It’s pathetic and creepy!

And yet here you are…..
Mumsnet police have arrived

Longer than the many royal tours they go on?

Doyouwantmejusttogo · 17/01/2024 14:50

Rehab?

TeaMistress · 17/01/2024 14:51

Sorry to hear that she is poorly and had surgery. Hoping she recovers fully and quickly and that her small children can be looked after and reassured as they must be worried sick about their mum.

Bookworm1111 · 17/01/2024 14:52

They probably exaggerated the 10-14 days because if they said 5-7 but then she needed to stay a bit longer, the press would go wild speculating that she was seriously ill. Bet she's out before 10 days are up.

It’s planned surgery so I think a hysterectomy

Most are send home the same or a day later and back to work within a fortnight or 3 weeks. But then, it's the Royals, anything is possible. Wonder how many years she lingered on waiting lists.

User3563573 · 17/01/2024 14:53

MIL had a hysterectomy and was out and about after 3-5 days. People seem to equate abdominal with gynaecological. There are tonnes of other surgeries possible in the abdomen area, not just hysterectomy.

I was referring to the poster who said the Queen had cancer and kept it a secret

WashedUpHasBeen · 17/01/2024 14:54

could just as easily be a bowel resection or something

FlatWhiteExtraHot · 17/01/2024 14:36

If they wanted privacy they shouldn’t have announced it. No one would have noticed (or cared much) if she disappeared for two weeks.

As she's missing planned appointments I think she would be missed

I expect that they are overstating the stay to be on the safe side.
There's a whole load of things it could be. Not one of them anyone's business but her own.

TBF their last long tour I think was probably the Carribean one which lasted about a week

AuroraCake · 17/01/2024 14:55

It will all be based on the amount of disruption caused to the area and the incisions necessary. If they have had a good rummage in there for whatever reason then no she won’t be up and running anytime soon.

I think, unless they feel the need to tell us, we should respect the privacy. The fact there are 3 young children and hope that this will have been a success and no further action/treatment is required.

BINGO!!!

CormorantStrikesBack · 17/01/2024 14:56

She might be getting a mole removed and milking it for as much time off work as possible. I wouldn’t blame her, I’d do the same given half a chance! 😀

WashedUpHasBeen · 17/01/2024 14:28

I had a hysterectomy at 38, was kept in for 5 days😂

Was it total abdominal? my partner had a TAH and was in for 10 days, aged 42. Her recovery took four months. Hers was done because of pre-cancerous cysts on her ovaries and elsewhere.

yes it was total abdominal

crumblingschools · 17/01/2024 14:57

Hopefully 10-14 days is covering all bases, and possibly means she could slip out the back door of the hospital after 5 days without the press hanging around
