Well, my husband had major surgery a week ago (hernia repair, the first hernia surgery a year ago failed, hernia came back. They couldn't do keyhole surgery the 2nd time, had to be major).

He was sent home on the same day with a catheter. He gets visits from community nurses, but he's very uncomfortable.

I could imagine that Kate wouldn't get kicked out the same day and that she would be given plenty of time to recover in the the hospital, under medial surveillance.

ISSTIUTNG · 17/01/2024 14:58

I have no interest in speculating what's wrong but hope she makes a good recovery and that that's the end of whatever the problem is as I would with any young person.

I'd just like to clarify (as a hcp) that length of hospital stay doesn't necessarily equate to quality of care. The philosophy now for good post-surgery recovery is that you're on your feet as quick as you can be after surgery as there's a lot of evidence that this optimises recovery and minimises the chance of post-surgical complications eg infection/reduced mobility. It may seem mean if your butt is being kicked 5 minutes after being under anaesthetic but there is definite rationalle behind it

If they wanted privacy they shouldn’t have announced it. No one would have noticed (or cared much) if she disappeared for two weeks.

This, I don't really understand why they bothered issuing a Press Releases on this she could have been in and out and none one be any the wiser

Nonsense. The Press would have been onto it very quickly, and keeping it secret would simply have hyped them up.

Most are send home the same or a day later and back to work within a fortnight or 3 weeks. But then, it's the Royals, anything is possible. Wonder how many years she lingered on waiting lists.

Total abdominal hysterectomy requires at least 10 days in hospital - my partner's was done within a month of diagnosis because they feared ovarian cancer.

Samcro · 17/01/2024 14:58

wow there are some nasty posts on here.

Crazy998 · 17/01/2024 14:58

I thought appendix removal. I was in hospital after mine for a while & couldn’t do much physical for about 3 months afterwards. Was a long recovery tbh.

Toomuch44 · 17/01/2024 14:59

I do wish her a speedy recover, but I suspect the length of time given in hospital has been expanded to give her as much privacy as possible - that way, we'll have no idea when she leaves. Not a criticism, but I'm sure she'll have more support at home than most of us would after an operation, so she's more likely to be able to rest as necessary when at home and won't need that long.

It’s impossible not to speculate.

when I was out at work for a series of gynecological surgeries, I honestly just wanted to tell people what was going on so there wouldn’t be speculation. Management told me I should use euphemisms like abdominal surgery instead.

midnightfeastfeats · 17/01/2024 15:00

I think the palace made a big mistake saying 'abdominal surgery' and the length of time she was in hospital.

It would inevitably lead to this sort of speculation which must be pretty unpleasant if you are worried about surgery.

They should have just said 'being admitted to hospital for surgery that is not a cause for concern and will be an in patient for a few days."

Idiots.

Mothermummymum · 17/01/2024 15:00

My opinion is that she has probably entered rehab for an eating disorder that it’s clear for the world to see she has.
No shame in rehab and no shame in wanting to cover it up if that’s your choice.

Kendodd · 17/01/2024 15:00

I hope she's well and all that and not in pain.

But 14 nights in a lovely private hospital sounds lovely. Especially
if you've got three kids I hope she enjoys it 😂

crumblingschools · 17/01/2024 15:01

If she is not going to be doing any public duties until Easter the RF would have had to say something, it's not just the 2 weeks in hospital

neighboursareselling · 17/01/2024 15:01

Sex change? How far down the abdomen are we talking?

FrancisSeaton · 17/01/2024 15:01

@VickyEadieofThigh how long ago was that? I can assure you it's not the case now

God yes, i was thinking the same! In fact when my kids were really tiny I used to fantasise about non life threatening issues that required a long stay in bed!

freezingcoldtoes · 17/01/2024 15:03

I agree they will have intentionally exaggerated how long the planned stay is.

But I also think that whatever surgery it is and whatever the usual time frame for being kept in hospital afterwards is will have been added to because of who she is. They will want to keep a closer eye for infections and things. Sandra the lollipop lady being out 5 days after her hysterectomy/gallbladder removal isn’t really relevant because she’s not the wife of the heir to the throne …

Your opinion is ridiculous. The whole world does not agree or see this - only a few jealous/small-minded individuals.

FrancisSeaton · 17/01/2024 15:03

I would have loved to have even been prescribed pain relief after my hysterectomy let alone be looked after for a couple of weeks. How the other half live 🤬

neighboursareselling · 17/01/2024 15:03

BelandtheDragon · 17/01/2024 14:36

Appendicitis does not come under planned surgery; it’s an emergency.

I think you can have a grumbling appendix which could be a planned removal

ShamedBySiri · 17/01/2024 15:04

What an unnecessary and unpleasant post @FlatWhiteExtraHot

She's a normally fit and healthy young woman and personally I feel very concerned for her. 10-14 days in hospital sounds like something very major that needs monitoring in hospital - something like a straightforward hysterectomy she could and undoubtedly would go home and have private nurses caring for her.

I wish her well and hope she makes a good recovery.
