La Pom Pom Girl is doing the Double Dutch. But who is turning the skipping ropes? Part three/trois/drie of the continuing discussion of Endgame by Omid Scobie. Previous thread:

Thank you for the new thread @Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstotheyard

Life has taken over today but it has proven a welcome distraction and I’m gratefully sitting watching it in a creepy bastard stalker LIKE way😏

So glad to hear about that standing ovation.

Don't forget that interview was heavily edited. There was apparently a lot of unshown footage - not that I do think Harry made an effort to explain the letters patent but he might have and it might have been cut by Oprah's editors.

Don’t forget that some of the “ news “ headlines used in the background were not from British papers as was implied .,

PopNotPolitics · 01/12/2023 15:51

Didn't Harry and Kate used to have a really close sibling-like relationship? The way he's treating her now must break her heart.

And yes, I agree that H&M should just release the names so that everyone can move forward.

Vespanest · 01/12/2023 15:53

It’s right back to Oprah, after the shock revelation without substance is just throwing insults and cannot sustain the interest, anyone with a critical thought process wants to know why. Harry is a wonder though, a bloke who hides behind unconscious bias mainly to protect himself from his own misdemeanours is somehow a poster boy for calling out racism.

Not just the names though. They need to say what was said and in what context.

Don’t forget they had no footage of Meghan being harassed by paps - they used footage pertaining to a Harry Potter premier, Princess Diana and Katie Price.

And them being “followed “ in the Netflix show - a lone delivery driver probably looking for an address !
And let’s not forget the near catastrophic car chase !

I've never really understood this whole 'swearing on lives' thing. Is the swearing person putting their family's lives up for annihilation by some smiting beast?

Or are they saying that God will do it? Why would God do it? The family members aren't the liars. They are not the ones who have broken a commandment.

Is it like saying, 'as God is my witness!' but with added jeopardy and proxy death? It makes people sound unhinged - and dishonest.

Edited

I think the whole idea is to convince the person you're swearing to that you'd never imperil the lives of your nearest and dearest by lying, hence it's supposed to convince of your absolute honesty. It's meaningless in a society that doesn't expect the Almighty to smite anyone, though.

JSMill · 01/12/2023 16:24

That scene in Netflix where they were being 'followed' by one man on a motorbike was hilarious.

Slothsandspiderman · 01/12/2023 16:27

There is part of me that thinks Meghan is feeding Omid shite knowing it will become public to drive Harry away. I’m sure they will last unfortunately, feel for their poor kids wrapped up in this saga

And the speed with which the 'lives in danger' car chase story fell apart. They don't have the golden touch with PR, that's for sure. Who the heck is advising them?

HonoriaLucastaDelagardie · 01/12/2023 16:38

They don't listen to advice, do they. If they ever had, they probably wouldn't be where they are now.

Indeed! If they listened to others and didn't think they knew everything then half the issues wouldn't have occured.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstotheyard · 01/12/2023 16:44

Bacofoil time!

I have often wondered whether Harry was aware of what Meghan said to Oprah in that part of the interview as he wasn’t present, then when he joined them again, he was blindsided by the skin colour question. And perhaps he only realised after the fact (upon broadcast), what Meghan had claimed they were being denied and why.

Immediately afterwards, they were trading off the publicity of pretty much that one part of the interview, and he couldn’t very well say M was mistaken, and would have made their powerful friend, Oprah, look foolish if he had. Then it snowballed to become a huge controversy, and they were offered the Kennedy award (which M was never going to say no to) and there was no going back.

But interestingly, there was no elaboration either, not in Netflix and not in Spare. It was just left hanging until the Bradby interview. Where Harry, alone for once, Meghan keeping a low profile away from the Spare debacle, did damage control with his unconscious bias backtrack. Since Megan left him to get on with the Spare publicity alone, I wonder if she knew he was going to say what he did to Bradby. She may not have been happy that he reframed the matter into unconscious bias - maybe she wanted racial prejudice to be her ace card for her own memoirs (hence the issue not being raised at all in Spare).

So how to backtrack once more? Get your pal to open up the can of worms again. Issue a book about how the RF is failing on the matter of race and is not fit for future generations. Then glide in there with your own first hand account of it, proving that the RF is a dying institution, that could have been saved by this wonderful woman had they given her what she wanted the chance.

This is not me blaming Meghan for Harry - they are both equally awful, imo.

Vespanest · 01/12/2023 16:50

Whoever is advising them forgot that Harry is now running the risk of his own behaviour being highlighted to a new audience. It’s quite funny seeing Americans defending Harry’s use of P word as it just affectionate as Aussie. He may have been sheltered but this was the 2000s and not his only misdemeanour.

Except someone banjaxed that by sending the Dutch publisher the wrong draft, OS denied it was anything to do with him, threw the translators under the bus and has everyone asking so where and who DID that come from, then and how did it get into that draft? it clearly being ridiculous that the translators had anything to do with it; and in the process garnering a lot of support for the RF and people pointing out that this accusation is old news and isn't substantiated anyway, it's all hearsay and rumour.

Scoobydoobywho · 01/12/2023 16:52

If the translation was apparently wrong and no names were in the book to translated. Why was it the names it was and why has Scobie not come out and said either way yes or no those names are not the right people. He's not exactly poo pooing that it was King Charles and Princess Catherine.
Hope that makes sense.

PopNotPolitics · 01/12/2023 17:01

The translator has said that she didn't add the names though?

On a separate note, I feel bad for the translator being caught up in this mess. It's not her fault, and she's owed an apology.

HonoriaLucastaDelagardie · 01/12/2023 17:15

I have often wondered whether Harry was aware of what Meghan said to Oprah in that part of the interview as he wasn’t present, then when he joined them again, he was blindsided by the skin colour question.

I agree, I remember having the impression that Harry was taken aback, that he hadn't expected the question to be asked.

Presumably they and Oprah would have discussed in advance the general topics to be covered in the interview - then M introduced this without warning, hence Oprah's apparently gobsmacked reaction.

Would also explain the inconsistencies. They hadn't got their story straight, so M was talking about one thing, and H thought they were talking about something else.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstotheyard · 01/12/2023 17:18

The translator has said she included the names because they were included in the English draft she was given to translate. She didn't add anything in off her own back.

The only reasonable conclusion is that the Dutch publisher was given a different (possibly earlier) draft than the final draft sent to the English language publisher (a completely different company) and the other foreign language publishers (also other companies).

Or, the cat being out of the bag means that H&M have got nothing to lose in backtracking from their promises they would never talk about it and name the people involved. They can say that it is not their fault they now have to speak out, but they need to provide clarification to set the record straight. "I never wanted anyone to know their names - but now everyone knows anyway, let me tell you how nasty they all were."

OP posts:
MrsFinkelstein · 01/12/2023 17:30

The irony for OS (so far) is that, despite his (& H&Ms?) very best efforts to create a constant victim narrative for H&M is that all they have achieved is to flip this onto the RF (& esp C) as being the wronged party.

Edit - grammar

Maireas · 01/12/2023 17:35

It's ironic, @MrsFinkelstein - the continuing narrative of their victimhood, yet there's been years of nasty remarks, unfair claims, unsubstantiated gossip and serious accusations about the royals. Utterly ludicrous.

SkyFullofStars1975 · 01/12/2023 17:53

I wonder if this is all part of an elaborate plan... nothing with the Sussexes seems to happen organically. This huge furore over names/racist comments has generated huge publicity, OS will take the fall and not them, and then another massive intervew with follow (I can't see Oprah offering but it'll be a well known name) and they will declare all ignorance and play the victims at how the media has got it in for them.

Makemydaypunk · 01/12/2023 18:16

YourNameGoesHere · 01/12/2023 15:33

Indeed. I always wonder this when people say things like she didn't know XYZ not only is this stuff all easily found out by a quick Google but didn't she also have access to people she could have asked, whose literal job it was to help her understand this stuff?

Agreed, we constantly hear how ‘intelligent’ Meghan supposedly is but the ability to use Google is beyond her skill set.
