Omid Scobie's new book

1000 replies

boxedandribboned · 04/11/2023 20:38

Heads up, Omid is back on the PR trail...

https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/royals/harry-meghan-author-omid-scobie-31362434

BTW, can anyone explain why he's Harper's Royal reporter when he only seems to have access to or report on Harry and Meghan? It's a bit strange.

Harry and Meghan's biographer calls King Charles 'unpopular' in scathing jibe

Omid Scobie's new 'explosive' book Endgame will be published on November 28 - and its description on Amazon says the author investigates the current state of the British monarchy

But there's really no legitimate comparison?

Doesn’t matter.

Princessfluffy · 07/11/2023 14:31

I'm not sure that Harry/Megan/Omid have any further power to damage the monarchy left do they?

TabithatheTabbycat · 07/11/2023 15:44

I doubt they have any recent gossip to leak, unless of course Eugenie has been updating them? 🤔😀

ThePoshUns · 07/11/2023 17:35

He has to fund all that plastic surgery somehow.

Am I the only one who read the quote and heard the EastEnders dramatic dumdumdum etc in my head?

I heard the Law & Order dumdumdumdum in my head 🤪

MrsFinkelstein · 07/11/2023 20:12

I heard the Law & Order dumdumdumdum in my head 🤪

Now I can hear that as well 😂

Gloriously · 07/11/2023 23:12

Is it being serialised anywhere?

I expect OS will be doing the media rounds with interviews at launch?

I wonder if he is doing signings .... might pop along to observe what characters turn up ....

Think it’s all going to be amusing

JamMakingWannaBe · 07/11/2023 23:23

"Royal source" = "someone made some comments over a pint in the Old Queen Vic pub"

Lucybee0 · 07/11/2023 23:26

He lied about his age (a journalist on Twitter who interviewed him confirmed this) so I suspect this book will be full of lies.

This is quoted in description on Amazon:-

An unpopular king, a power-hungry heir to the throne, a queen willing to go to dangerous lengths to preserve her image, and a prince forced to start a new life after being betrayed by his own family.

Will OS not have to quote his sources for it to be credible?

I'm sure there is a Disney story in there?

There are excerpts from Endgame in People Magazine apparently (I haven't looked yet). I've also read elsewhere that there is a chapter in Omid's book that previously went unrevealed when the chapter titles were published - a chapter on The Media. ta dum.

Madasahattersteaparty1749 · 16/11/2023 01:06

Just had a quick look, doesn’t seem anything too controversial just William is loyal to the Crown, that Harry and William no longer talk or have any contact but then throwing accusations that William cooperates with the UK press to undermine Harry.

MostFabledWaterway · 16/11/2023 07:07

I really don't think this book is going to do Harry and Meghan any favours at all. From the excepts released it just rehashes the same old shit that has been done to death now. I had actually thought the Sussexes were starting to turn a corner - they seem to have dropped the 'attack the Royal family' narrative and I honestly think that is a good thing, It was becoming parody - with South Park/Family man etc.

Now this book just starts it all up again. I think may Scobie got the deal at the height of tensions (around Queens death) and ran with it - not thinking that by the time of release it would much less relevant that it was then. How many times can we hear the same old story, the same old accusations. People are tiring of it all.

newnamethanks · 16/11/2023 07:23

He "answered the phone just before it stopped". Yup, Omid, that's how phones work. They ring, you answer, ringing stops. Well done on your observational skills.

Sisterpita · 16/11/2023 07:26

Having only seen some articles in the press I may have this wrong but it seems like M & H may have been heavily involved. They actually quote what Prince Harry is alleged to have said to the Queen when he saw her after she died - if that is the case I cannot see how they can deny it.

themessygarden · 16/11/2023 07:36

What close Royal sources would give Scobie any information? and I doubt H&M are still providing him with info, I imagine they have been advised to stay well clear of him having being exposed as one of his sources for Finding Freedom.

How ridiculous that Scobie is claiming Harry was 'kept in the dark' about his grandmothers illness,, firstly the woman was 96, her months were already numbered, secondly she was clearly ill, she missed many big events and made a very quick appearance at her jubilee, she was clearly very ill when he met with her during that time, just a few weeks previous to her passing.

Scobie is claiming Harry is so dumb that he didn't realise she was ill? yeah right ! Clearly none of the family knew her death was imminent as none of them made it there in time, only Charles and Anne made it as they were already holidaying in Scotland. Would Eugenie have also kept him in the dark if there was some big cover up to keep him out of the picture?

Sounds like Scobie has no new sources and is probably using old info from Finding Freedom, the ones that didn't make the first cut, making it up and embellishing the rest as he goes along.

Maireas · 16/11/2023 07:38

People magazine seems to be H&M's outlet of choice, doesn't it?
Harry was unaware of his grandmother's health situation? Well, if he'd visited her or communicated more he may have had an inkling. Also, she was 96. I'm going to say it was on the cards.
It sounds like Spare part 2.

Mylovelygreendress · 16/11/2023 08:08

How many times are we going to be subjected to the same old moans ? I only saw the headline but judging by comments here it’s the same old , same old .
Why don’t H and M enjoy their lives with their 2 lovely children , fabulous house and millions in the bank ? Move on . Everyone else has.

mrsmingleton · 16/11/2023 08:13

Same old nonsense - Meghan wasn't wanted at Balmoral blah blah. He said/she said/hearsay. I agree with the PP who said this is the last thing they need. Sadly it just reminds everyone of all this old stuff. As a poster on here would usually say " why are they dragging up stuff that happened so long ago?"

tattychicken · 16/11/2023 08:13

We could all see she was deteriorating. Her appearance on the balcony for her jubilee felt like her saying goodbye, it must have taken an enormous effort. I can't see how he didn't realise she was fading.

I agree and the photo of her waiting for Liz Truss ( remember her??) showed she was failing fast .

This is such a bad look for Harry, it strikes the same whiny 'poor me' note as Spare...

At Balmoral, Harry was also not invited to a dinner that Charles had with Queen Camilla and Prince William and so he flew home early the next day, on September 9, says Scobie.

"When he arrived at Balmoral, Princess Anne warmly greeted him and led him to the Queen's room, where he spent a quiet moment privately paying his respects," Scobie wrote. "He had hoped to see his father—who had made it to Balmoral Castle in time to see his mother alive—to express his sympathies, but he was informed that Charles, William, and Camilla had already left for Birkhall together.

"Again, no invite was extended to Harry. That night after eating he retired to his room, exhausted by the day's emotional roller coaster," Scobie continued. "He was glad to have had a private moment to say goodbye to his grandmother, but there was no point in sticking around.

"With no offer to return with William and the others in the morning (all of his texts, including a thoughtful message about the loss of their grandmother, continued to be ignored), Harry booked his own British Airways ticket on the first available departing flight."

Prince Harry and Meghan After Queen's Death

Why Prince Harry wasn't told about Queen's death before public

A palace move to "save face" left Prince Harry "crushed" because "his relationship with the queen was everything to him."

I remember feeling so sorry for HMQ, having to meet with Truss of all people when she clearly wasn't well.

Serenster · 16/11/2023 08:56

With no offer to return with William and the others in the morning (all of his texts, including a thoughtful message about the loss of their grandmother, continued to be ignored),

William was quite prescient there, since shortly afterwards we all saw how William’s private texts to Harry after the Oprah interview were filmed by Netflix as they were received, along with Meghan and Harry’s reaction to them. So doubtless if William had responded, his private messages would have been publicised now.

Which circles neatly back to one of the reasons why this still being raked over is not great for the Sussexes - many many people can see clearly that there were good reasons why the red carpet was not going to be rolled out for them at a private family moment. Those of us who are adults know that while you can make your own decisions as an adult, if they impact on other people, those people get to make decisions too. And you may not like them.
