The royal family

Omid Scobie's new book

Heads up, Omid is back on the PR trail...

https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/royals/harry-meghan-author-omid-scobie-31362434

BTW, can anyone explain why he's Harper's Royal reporter when he only seems to have access to or report on Harry and Meghan? It's a bit strange.

Harry and Meghan's biographer calls King Charles 'unpopular' in scathing jibe

Omid Scobie's new 'explosive' book Endgame will be published on November 28 - and its description on Amazon says the author investigates the current state of the British monarchy

And pointed out that his Western saviour arrogance and condescension was ridiculous.

Brilliant, love it 😂

themessygarden · 05/11/2023 11:34

I remember reading that Omid Scobie was linked to Marcus Anderson, of Soho House fame and who is the best friend of MM. It was speculated it was Marcus Anderson who introduced Scobie to MM. If the MA link is true, then Scobie would have strong links to MM.

I saw this book announcement and felt very sorry for Harry and Meghan. The royal family will probably just ignore it, as they ignore most things of this nature but I can see the press writing endless articles somehow blaming the Sussexes for Scobie's book just as things seemed to be calming down for them. I don't believe they have anything to do with it btw but I think they'll be blamed anyway, I saw a tweet today that said that his claim that Charles was unpopular was rubbish because he is more popular than the Sussexes together. I don't know if that is accurate but I think it's a good example of how some fallout will be targeted at them.

If the book is anything like his red carpet tweet it will mostly be either inaccurate or a re hash of things we have heard before. Even from the chapter titles it comes across as a rather grubby money grab rather than a serious analysis of the monarchy. Maybe it will flop and he'll go away. I don't think we need so called royal experts who basically use the family as a way to spread vitrol, and yes he isn't the only one who does that.

Gloriously · 05/11/2023 12:36

I agree that the tabloid press will make mince meat of it and take the opportunity (solely for their own financial gain) to link every ‘revelation / allegation’ to H&M via click bait.

Not sure what sales projections of the actual book look like?

I wonder if OS will name his sources?

Also wonder if H or M will comment, support or deny any of OS’s revelations / allegations - or if they will keep detached?

I suppose it depends on the nature and extent of them and whether or not hit advances their brand development.

Same of course applies to the RF but I expect that the ‘never complain, never explain’ MO will endure.

They used him as their mouthpiece to spill for years, you reap what you sow. They tainted him, he taints them.

Madasahattersteaparty1749 · 05/11/2023 13:10

Unfortunately for Harry and Meghan the court case showed that they were communicating with Omid on his previous book and giving him court information which he tweeted before it was in the public domain.
Even if they are no longer feeding him information mud sticks and they will be tarnished with the previous association.
The press are going to have a field day and link all negativity to Harry and Meghan. They are in an impossible situation as they can’t deny feeding him information as they did that previously and were found to be lying to the court. The only thing they can do is be silent but the press will spin it as compliance.

LadyMuckingabout · 05/11/2023 13:42

Indeed Scobie was the boyfriend of Marcus Anderson. That’s how he got to know Meghan.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 05/11/2023 15:14

"I can hardly wait. He's a very talented writer and an insightful commentator. His historical expertise, and scoops from excellent sources on the current machinations of the Royal household, will surely bring the whole institution tumbling down."

Said Scobie's mum.

nettie434 · 05/11/2023 16:03

I guess the timing was partly to coincide with the Earth Prize and the royal visit to Kenya. Omid Scobie and his publisher are hoping to piggy back onto publicity for these events.

I think that interest in his book will demonstrate the law of diminishing returns. There's very little new information so he has to do a lot of speculation.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 05/11/2023 17:27

Apparently, he will be revealing the Royal racist. The one that’s not Harry, that is.

pilates · 05/11/2023 17:55

That’s what I was thinking @Gloriously

He is a creepy looking guy.

Surely that’s the Rpyal Unconsciously Biased, rather than Racist? Accordingly to Harry, anyway, when he was promoting Spare.

Framilode · 05/11/2023 18:24

He's Harry and Meghan's Paul Burrell.

@Serenster they made a fool out of OW

Gloriously · 05/11/2023 18:51

OW went out of her way to distance herself personally from H&M and the ‘bombshell interview’ immediately the day after HMTQ death when she recorded a special interview for Gayle King, once she has quantified the global respect evident for HMTQ - she didn’t want to be associated with causing her any issue.

So I wouldn’t worry about OW she looks after herself commercially.

Of course it will. A institution that's a millennia old and has survived monarchs who imposed their own religion, were deposed, decapitated, insane and abdicated is going to be rocked to its foundations by a book.

In your dreams, Scooby.

Gowlett · 05/11/2023 18:55

I remember him when he started out at HEAT.

I was just thinking, he must have gotten in with Meghan.

This is the same Scobie that “in the chaos of the breaking news” (about HMQEii’s death) made a “slip of the tongue “ in saying that the Queen’s body would be transported “from Scotland to the UK by one of the Royal trains”. Just as well other reporters didn’t crumble under the pressure of the chaos and managed to remember that Scotland is part of the UK, there is only one Royal train, and the Queen was flown down from Scotland 🙄

Gloriously · 05/11/2023 19:16

Did he not also put out a tweet to the world as HMTQ lay dying that MM & PH were both on their way to Balmoral to be by her side on her deathbed without clearing that info (which turned out to be wrong) with anyone. Really gauche, insensitive and vulgar IMHO.

Serenster · 05/11/2023 19:16

To be fair, the Queen travelling from Scotland to London by train was in the original plans for Operation Unicorn (the plan if QEII died in Scotland). It got jettisoned, apparently because of security concerns - I think there was concern that people trying to get close to rail lines to see the Royal Train wasn’t the safest - and so the coffin was flown instead. So Scobie was behind the news, rather than making things up I assume.

Yes, I think that part of his statement was indeed because he was behind the news, but I suppose that also suggests that he doesn’t really have the access to royal sources that he claims. The other two bits about Scotland and the Royal trains plural were just plain wrong though 😂

edited for typo

Serenster · 05/11/2023 19:25

Oh yes, the rest was just sloppy!

Omid was heavily involved in the events surrounding the funeral, tweeting about the Sussex’s travel arrangements, tweeting a picture of Meghan, Harry and Charles receiving the Queen’s coffin at Buckingham Palace which had been taken in breach of a Press agreement and which he promptly had to delete, who’d be wearing uniforms etc. So I expect he’ll be covering all that period in his book.

This is quoted in description on Amazon:-

An unpopular king, a power-hungry heir to the throne, a queen willing to go to dangerous lengths to preserve her image, and a prince forced to start a new life after being betrayed by his own family.

Will OS not have to quote his sources for it to be credible?

Yes, of course
