If the royals are not relevant to earth shot, why did you post in this topic, not say the news topic?
posters will talk abou royals in this topic

ILikeDinosaurs · 14/09/2023 16:56

Absolutely 😂

Way to crap on the veterans @MamoruHisaishi Both causes are important but the IG have made a huge impact around the world, especially to those solidiers in Ukraine.

You've lowered yourself all because you hate Harry. 🙄

lol lowered myself because i stated that fighting climate change is a more worthy cause to support than the Invictus games? I mean, climate change impacts the whole world and humanity itself, there won’t be any invictus games if the earth becomes so hot that the polar caps melt and countries disappear due to the rising oceans.

hang on, was I not reported for derailment in other threads because I was criticising harry and not discussing the topic of whatever it was. This is sheer hypocrisy. The nerve of you to say this. Omg, this is why I have made a complaint about some posters here. As long as it’s harry or Meghan , any criticism of them is derailment yet this is apparently okay to do in this thread because this is about the royals.

Is there a longer version of Ignace's winners speech in 2008 @Novella4 as the 5 min version I have watched didn't mention Earthshot? He did have a good line in it about MLK not inspiring anyone by announcing "I have a nightmare"

Most references to Ignace and Earthshot that I could find refer to the autumn 2019 Latvia hosted EUROPARC and his plenary speech. Given that Earthshot formally launched in December 2019 and so presumably had been named before then, it seems to me to be more of a "something in the air" moment

this is wonderful news. The winners and nominees will be meeting and liaising with VIPs and heads of companies as well as rich philanthropists in New York this September. I’m glad that the participants continue to receive support for the work that they do.

The Earthshot Prize and Bloomberg Philanthropies to host second Innovation Summit in New York City - The Earthshot Prize

Taking place on September 19, 2023, the summit aims to drive meaningful environmental change. This year's 15 Finalists will also be revealed at the summit.

i can’t remember reporting someone for derailment

I find it REALLY hard to reconcile the lifestyle that the royal family have/need including William and Catherine to climate change.

Palaces, castles, houses - all on standby. Decorated time and again. Cars, helicopters, private planes. Staff and security going to and fro.

The total amount of carbon required for them for just one day must be eye watering.

So why pick that cause? It seems so utterly bonkers.

And @MamoruHisaishi we actually do need stop driving, or at least one person per car. Climate change has really gathered pace since the 70s, lock step with consumption. Production (of everything) needs to slow right down. And lets face it - consumption and the royal family go hand in hand but in a nuclear way.

No matter how many organic carrots they produce.

Serenster · 14/09/2023 17:26

Still no clearer of your point, Novella.

Only one person is allowed to be inspired by Moonshot? There is a whole philosophy called “Moonshot thinking” you know off the back of the Kennedy approach to setting audacious goals. “Sunshot” has also been coined off the back of it, and the US government has also recently adopted Earthshot and Energyshot to label its initiatives. It’s a creative use of language, not an intellectual property crime.

Are you about to start complaining that no-one credits the Watergate Hotel whenever a scandal gets -gate added as a suffix?

Roussette · 14/09/2023 17:28

MamoruHisaishi · 14/09/2023 16:55

No, because it won’t be the truth. Fighting climate change will make a bigger impact on billions of people around the world including future generations. And this isn’t an exaggeration. It is the truth.

I am all for anything that addresses Climate Change and I'm pleased to hear you would support it even if it was Harry & Meghan's involvement in it, and not William and Kate

This is clearly something that novella and other william haters have clung to (which is so unbelievably petty and silly) because they know that the event itself is actually a good thing and they can’t accept it because anything william related is bad to them.

the participants are making a difference, such as the indigenous women who are protecting the Great Barrier Reef and who won last year are now looking at ways to expand their work in other countries to help save their reefs. There is article I posted about some of the other winners as well, and the impact that the award has made on them. Then there’s the upcoming summit in New York this September where all the nominees and winners will get a chance to connect with the global movers and shakers to gain further support for the work that they do.

you can say that we need to stop driving or flying till you are blue in the face but people won’t stop. That is the reality. Therefore we now have electric cars and there’s now environmentally friendly planes being created that uses hydrogen instead of fuel.

I have been discussing earthshot yet you've not picked up on my points on the event. Just about W and K. Just saying. And get over yourself.

MamoruHisaishi · 14/09/2023 17:48

Tbh the idea of climate change absolutely frightens me. Entire countries will disappear, animals will go extinct, there are articles I’ve read that mentions where some animals have either become extinct or on the verge of it. There was a news article that came out recently about penguins losing their entire brood due to the melting ice. There will be climate refugees and how can the rest of the world accommodate them all? my country will become even more extremely unbearably hot and water will run out in some parts. I hope earth shot and other similar initiatives are able to slow down/prevent this disaster from happening.

I have been directly addressing your issues with earth shot, which you seem to have missed. You criticised me because I asked how the royals are relevant to this topic when another poster mentioned about how shitty the royals and william are. Which again, I ask, how is it relevant to this topic?

Good post @EnoughIsay

People need to stop being such massive consumers. And that’s where the celebrities and royals, and others like them, could lead by example. Instead of this ‘live as I say, not as I do,’ approach.

MamoruHisaishi · 15/09/2023 00:39

I like how the earth shot event this year will be expanding their recognition of different categories which will now include fashion, technology, even legal aspects, and policies to help create sustainability and reduce waste in the environment. I’m eager to see who this year’s nominees are and the type of work that they’re doing to help protect the environment.

Because william created this, but the thread is about the event itself. but then again, do you honestly believe that if celebrities and royals lead by example by not travelling either by car or plane, people would then follow their example? Most of us can think and decide for ourselves. We don’t need royals or celebrities to make choices for ourselves. Unfortunately, trying to force people to change their ways by shaming them won’t stop the behaviour. I think the more effective solution would be if people were offered more environmentally friendly choices at a better or competitive cost, instead of demanding them to consume less. If we create electric cars and environmentally friendly planes, and use sustainable packaging instead of plastic, I don’t see why this would be an issue.

Nowhere did I say that the change to renewables etc did not have merit. Of course it does. But I also think it’s imperative that people who live in societies like ours consume less. It’s not one or the other.

It’s like the women’s initiative to restore the Barrier Reef. It’s a really really good thing, but how about we put less carbon into the atmosphere so they have a better chance of success?

ALittleTeawithmilk · 15/09/2023 01:38

Harry and/or Meghan is mentioned in every thread title re Invictus. Including the highly critical title of the thread you started. You do really like to criticise H&M. You’ve started more than one critical thread about them, but then post outraged opinions when other posters criticise William and Kate.

Btw, I’ve never criticised Kate ever - neither here nor elsewhere. I’ve criticised William twice on here - both times in regards to the same issue - and it’s not his environmental initiatives or anything he does for charity.

(I have criticised Charles - absolutely).

everetting · 15/09/2023 02:04

William and Kate flew by helicopter to Wales for a ten minute service.
It is clear their transport choices are nothing to do with climate change.
