People were angry at William for not flying because it was the women's team. If it was the men's there is no question that he would be there and CC would not even be in the equation as he is president of the FA. When it's the women's all of a sudden he's remembered climate change?

It doesn't tally with this event, which is ABOUT climate change, that people are flying around the world?! This time to Singapore. It's actually shitting on the actual winners' efforts that the others are using up their carbon footprint for this, possibly even using their private jets..). It seems to me that either they should ALL be at a physical event (which would be bad planning anyway IMO) or NONE of them should be.

Now you're just making assumptions. I don't recall William being at the men’s football event either, but I suspect this is just another way to criticize him for stupid petty reasons. But hey, I guess now you're in agreement with the likes of piers Morgan.

The point of earth shot isn't about stopping people from being able to fly (commercial preferably) because of climate change, but to reward the people who are coming up with solutions to slow down/prevent climate change without trying to force people to drastically change their way of life. Your criticism is akin to saying that driving cars is bad because it contributes to climate change and therefore anyone driving is bad and deserves to be condemned, when one of the solutions isn't to abolish driving cars but to make cars more environmentally friendly. Perhaps you should consider this from the nominees and the winners point of view, as they are happy to be recognised for their work even if they aren't at the event itself because the aim of the award is to be able to obtain FUNDING for their work and to gain support from the important global figures who have the wealth and connections to make their work more accessible to a greater number of people worldwide.

Can't believe you're still not over him not flying to Australia. I would think that William flying commercial to support the earth shot prize initiative is a bigger deal and a far worthy cause than flying over to Australia to watch the football event. And he has been supportive of the women’s football team, which just isn't to your liking as to how he's supported them. Funny how you now seem to agree with the likes of piers Morgan. This event is a bigger deal than football.

Do check your own thread

I was not the poster bringing up Australia at 08.12 this morning. I replied to Serenster with one word about her post "commercial"
Maybe take it up with her?
I didn't bring it up and am quite over it ta!

Thanks for the Piers Morgan laugh though 🤣😂🤣

Re finalists in the audience at the awards show. It was clearly an operational decision made from the very beginning that the show would have all 15 finalists remote in their home locations.

The first Earthshot was 2021 in London so much of that early decision was made in the planning stages when the world was still in working out Covid and post Covid travel. For a while there was that situation with red zone countries needing 2 weeks of quarantine and some countries who were not letting their own citizens travel.

At the point they needed to create the set and plan the execution of the show they would not have known how travel etc would have worked out for the different finalists - I’m sure they considered options with some remote and some in the studio etc.

After the first show though it’s clear from an entertainment point that the remote option is much better - it’s more visually pleasing seeing the participants in their home environments.

It’s better for understanding the breadth and variety of the finalists themselves - from a single teenager, to a city, to a whole country.

And operationally it’s a very clean and efficient TV option for the award show format. You don’t have to have multi cameras on the same five boring ‘person sitting in seats’ shot and then all the waiting for the winner to walk down to the stage and then all the faffing about getting on and off the stage. It’s more enjoyable for the viewer.

The Earthshot organization then creates multiple in person networking opportunities for all 15 finalists not just the winners following the initial awards show - and not just that years winners - looks like they are continuing to support and showcase past participants too at the in person events.

The indigenous women rangers from my country won last year for their work in protecting the great barrier reef. They're now trying to expand what they're doing, and are currently working with the QLD government as well. It's a great thing that these people and others like them are being recognized for their work and gaining support and connections to be able to continue what they're doing.

@MamoruHisaishi Yes, I remember - that was a lovely moment and one of the examples of why the remote finalists option really works. We could see them in the environment they are trying to save, alongside their family and friends and it was a big group moment of joy. A really sweet video moment that was much more visually impactful than just sending 2 reps into a studio audience.

For someone who told me a while back that you'd never respond to me again, you would ignore me, that was a mightily long post setting out what I'm thinking and feeling, my innermost thoughts, what I would say, what I would post!

Lol you're the one who told me you would never respond to me again. But hey, you seem keen on following wherever I go including making comments not even related to this thread at all. Perhaps I should complain about you for trying to derail this thread.

Anyway, back to the main topic.

Here's a lovely article about the nominees and winners and the impact that they're making on sustainability and climate change:

https://archive.md/uA4Gb

As much as I do commend William for starting up this initiative, it's the participants and the work that they're doing that I admire the most. It's great to see such passion and drive to help save this planet from climate change and the positivity that they bring in coming up with these solutions.

Has Willy STILL not admitted that the term ‘earthshot ‘ and embarrassingly , the whole ‘inspiration’ was ‘borrowed’ from a Goldman Prize winner in 2098?

The winner’s speech in 2008 said that he was inspired by Kennedy’s moonshot to try for Earthshot
What an amazing ……coincidence
Willy is a plank and a first class hypocrite on the environment

Lol now you put down Piers Morgan because he's criticised William? HmmGrin I don't watch him or follow him so I don't know what he says. Is he only acceptable when he criticises Harry and Meghan then? If he feels the need to criticise William then perhaps he has a reason to. It's nothing to do with me, I hate that man. But William is not above criticism in any way, shape or form.

coming up with solutions to slow down/prevent climate change without trying to force people to drastically change their way of life

How is that going to work when CC is so urgent? My main observation re Earthshot is the lack of joined up thinking on a project such as this. Let's solve CC by holding a glamorous event somewhere hundreds of people can fly to. thereby reducing any good work the nominees/winners are trying to achieve! Yep, that'll work Confused

Talking about the topic negatively (or presenting an alternative view) isn't derailing. No problem with you fighting the (good) fight for the New Republic by bringing relative criticism to the discussion.

Derailing is mentioning other absolutely irrelevant royal adjacent jabs, or other jabs personal to a specific poster with the aim of getting another poster riled up and instigating a bit of back and forth.

Also - I don't see many royalists on these threads. Some posters like some stuff about the current royal family, others like specific things about the constitutional monarchy, some just like the fancy clothes. No one is really banging the drum for the Windsors on here.

It'll probably be apathy that is the end to our constitutional monarchy in the end. It's probably apathy that's keeping it in place at the moment.

wordler · 14/09/2023 14:35

And yes - I admit - me responding to your goady post about royalists on their knees is also derailing! @Novella4 you're like catnip!

i don't think PW will worry about the planet when he gets on a plane to go there. didn't he use a helicopter to go for a short visit to wales recently?

ILikeDinosaurs · 14/09/2023 14:58

A very detailed thought process was described as William musing on Kennedy’s moonshot and applying it to climate change

How very odd that the winner of the Goldman prize in 2008 detailed exactly the same inspiration - 12 years earlier.

And of whom there is no mention. has William named this former winner as his template ?

Wow way to crap on people who are making a difference on trying to save the planet from climate change just because of your hatred for royals. FYI, this isn't about the royals, this is an initiative to reward the people from all over the world in trying to find solutions for climate change. Feel free to hate on the royals but what did these participants ever do to you and why do you hate an initiative that is trying to find solutions for a good cause?

Again he flew commercial. This earth shot initiative against climate change isn't about stopping people from flying, it's about trying to find ways to make flying more environmentally friendly, finding ways to make our way of living more environmentally friendly. Also, as I told another poster, this is like criticizing people for driving cars instead of walking or using horses or other animals. The solution isn't to get rid of our modern way of living, the solution is to make our modern way of living sustainable and environmentally friendly.

I think it's harry and Meghan who uses private jets more often than the wales do. Ironic since Harry has his own environmental project going on. Also, there's nothing wrong in wanting to make a difference. Even if William doesn't solve the homeless problem, the fact that he is trying with this new initiative will at least help to highlight this serious issue.

Also, what does this have to do with earth shot again? The topic is about the event itself, not William.

Didn't harry steal/copy the idea of invictus from the warrior games in the USA? I wouldn't be accusing others of copying when your idol harry can be accused of the exact same thing.
