I'm just waiting to see if the past two years donations have managed to both wipe out the massive set-up expenses of the first year (costs £12m. Prizes £5m) and turn a profit reserve fund this time round.

That might take another few years I'm betting

Accounts due in December but I'm not holding my breath...

Give it a chance it was only set up in 2020. It almost feels like you want it to fail - how strange. It’s a brilliant innovation.

Indeed . Just as we have been told to give Archewell a chance !
These things take time .

oh yes. because that is the future kings project .......not.
there is a lot of difference.
I for one have only heard of Archewell on here.
PW is all over the news. so would expect his pet project to beyond reproach.

How is there any difference? It will still take time even if it is William’s “pet project” as you put it. And Archewell has definitely been in the news elsewhere. Any project like this will take time to gain momentum. The Prince’s trust is an example of this. It was launched in 1976, with 21 pilot projects but only really gained momentum in the middle of the 1980’s and beyond

CathyorClaire · 07/11/2023 10:36

These things take time .

Bob Geldof starting Band Aid from scratch raised £8m in a couple of months and the Live Aid concert taking place less than a year after the Band Aid single went on to close at a figure of £30m on the day.

Captain Tom Moore also starting from scratch raised £30m in two or three months.

How long do you think W needs when we're constantly told a royal's involvement boosts a charity's profile and takings by a considerable margin?

I’m not sure you can compare it to Band Aid or Sir Tom. These were focused on a single urgent issue, quickly caught the public imagination and relied on donations from the public. Earthshot does not ask for public donations. Also, I can’t quite imagine PW grabbing a mic and shouting “give us your fucking money” 😂😂

CathyorClaire · 07/11/2023 11:06

Well if we're allowing Earthshot the same ten year's grace as the Prince's Trust this will be over before it's started...

Novella4 · 07/11/2023 11:22

8 million spent on ‘costs’ ( PR fluff for William )
5 million on prizes

Novella4 · 07/11/2023 11:28

And apparently the prizes are given out in stages - no lump sum .

Do you have a reference for this please? I can only find reference to £1m for each winner 🤷‍♀️

TabithatheTabbycat · 07/11/2023 12:31

I'm in Japan ATM and have seen coverage of Prince William and Earthshot here. He's definitely generating a buzz around the initiative. Great to see.

It's an initiative by airline companies whereby when you emit 1000 lbs of CO2 by flying, you can volunteer tonpay £24 to the airline so they can claim to plant a tree somewhere or invest in renewable energies somewhere else.

Nice in theory for consumers but some climate experts and scientists say it's nonsense/exaggerated

So he could have done that to fly to the women's football World Cup final? Thus sparing us multiple threads and that painful video with Charlotte.

pilates · 07/11/2023 19:02

Is that all you can find fault because William didn’t go to the women’s world cup final and how sad to moan about a little girl’s video. That’s just mean and nasty.

He could, but it’s a long way to Sydney for a 90 minute football game and he wasn’t scheduled to do anything else whilst in Australia. The flight to Singapore is about half the length of the flight to Sydney and he is spending a few days there and carrying out other engagements. Anyway, as you say, this has been done to death.

She didn’t do the video

yes, he could have paid the carbon offset if the airline he were to fly with offered it

LOL I found it painful too. For some reason he always looks like he's in pain to me, or like he's talking through gritted teeth

CathyorClaire · 07/11/2023 20:21

Even I didn't think he should have gone to Sydney purely on the grounds of not further increasing his already enormous carbon footprint. In my view he should have been seen watching the game at a big-screen venue here but claiming he didn't go because he couldn't have been found something to do while there is disingenuous.

He didn't go just as he didn't big-screen it here because he was well into yet another lengthy break from 'work' and didn't want to get off his bone-idle arse.

Ineedwinenow · 08/11/2023 02:40

All totally deserved 😍

A success for PW and such a great ambassador for our country.

rich people off setting their travel, ra than thinking of ways not to fly so much.
doubt I’m alone

You mean like going to see a Katy Perry concert when you are supporting a website dedicated to sustainable travel? And that's not the first time Harry has used a private jet for recreational purposes in the last few months.

The thing is if everyone were to cease this then we would lose valuable initiatives, deals, aid, trade, diplomacy. These cannot be conducted from wfh .
