Why would they need to do that? The best EVs have a range of over 200 miles.

That wouldn’t have got them from Windsor to the engagement in Wales, let alone home again.

Woopi doo. I regularly drive 365 miles from England to Scotland. I wouldn't be able to do that in an electric vehicle. And I'm just an ordinary citizen. The infrastructure for electric vehicles just isn't there. And people can shove heat pumps up their arse as well.

derxa · 20/09/2023 16:18

Harold made do with a single carriage. Good for him

Serenster · 20/09/2023 16:18

Why would it take a whole train?

It doesn’t, no. The Queen sometimes used the Royal train, but generally they just travel in First Class when they travel by train.

Angrycat2768 · 20/09/2023 18:17

Serenster · 20/09/2023 16:02

No need for diesel cars, why would the RF not use EVs

Not at all a security risk, a group of VIPs hanging out in a motorway services while the car recharges 🤣

What about a hybrid car> I regularly drive 500 miles in my Prius without needing to refuel. They have everything at their disposal and money no object. I doubt they would have to wait around at the station for a delayed train to Wales. They would get on and go, after having the platform closed down for them.

Angrycat2768 · 20/09/2023 18:24

ILikeDinosaurs · 20/09/2023 14:06

The mode of transport the RF use, or there housing is unimportant in the grand scheme of things. Whether people like it or not they are the Royal family and they do things differently than us mortals,

🙄Are you serious? I thought this kind of sycophancy went out with the Middle Ages.

I believe the Royal Family's carbon footprint is over 3800 tons per year, compared to the average British persons footprint of 10 tons per year. There is a hell of a lot that they can do. For a family that claims to be environmentalists, to have a carbon footprint for 8 people that is almost a thousand times higher than the average British person means that in the grand scheme of things, when everyone needs to pull their weight and do their bit, it is important.
(Sorry I tried to link the article but couldnt do it. )

The mode of transport the RF use, or there housing is unimportant in the grand scheme of things. Whether people like it or not they are the Royal family and they do things differently than us mortals, just like the US President, or the Swedish royal family. Helicopters have come a long way and modern ones are far less of a climate issue. It makes sense to fly in a helicopter a short distance than all the fuss of arranging convoys of diesel cars or even a whole train. Time is valuable when you are rich and important, and again, like it or not they are.

William was in New York and visited a Fire Station and the crowds were large and enthusiastic. I doubt these visits have a lot of prior warning because of the risk of terrorists, so it was nice to see him interacting with the crowd. Great that he is so popular in America, and can focus some light on his Earthshot project.

the crowds were large and enthusiastic - I am not at all sure that was the case.
The mayor of New York cancelled their meeting.

Why is wandering around New York now - with the UN meetings on.

It is a little Ivanka Trumpish - here I am with important movers and shakers therefore I am a mover and shaker...

Angrycat2768 · 21/09/2023 07:16

Why is he so bothered about being big in America anyway? Earthshot is is Singapore, isn't it? Why could he not announce the nominees from the UK? He's not going to be King of the US. Apparently the Royals arent celebrities so why does his popularity amongst Americans matter?

Serenster · 21/09/2023 07:48

William was in New York for a joint Innovation Summit with the Bloomberg Philanthropies (which is a key partner to Earthshot, and is based in New York as Michael Bloomberg lives there), past winners and Earthshot trustees. The aim is to connect the winners with investors and individuals who can help them scale up their projects. It was timed to conincide with New York Climate Week. As Michael Bloomberg is also Special Envoy to the UN on Climate change, it was also linked to the UN, which was also in session that week.

Novella4 · 21/09/2023 08:06

Willy is in New York for the same reason the OP put this thread in ‘royal’ family and not in the climate change section , to attempt to bolster support for Willy

As Bill Gates remarked - it could all have been done on teams .

I read that Willy and Kate have 60 staff- admittedly 59 of them are busy searching for Willy’s personality - but if any read these threads - tone down the overwrought PR.

Most people know green washing when they see it and your key demographic (66+) is mainly irritated by green issues

cobicat · 21/09/2023 08:07

William's just calmly going about his business. The fact that this fairly low-key trip has generated so much positive PR really seems to have rattled a small faction of online obsessives.

Remind me which company Teams belongs to ? 😆

Or Google Meet, or Zoom, as the nominees have to do at the actual event, you mean?

Novella4 · 21/09/2023 08:17

i was paraphrasing- he just said ‘technology’

And I was joking. Hence the laughing face 🙄

smilesy · 21/09/2023 08:20

Also, Isn’t Bill Gates going to Singapore? So
maybe he was just trying to plug Teams 🤷‍♀️😆

Novella4 · 21/09/2023 08:22

Are you all aware that the concept of carbon footprint was invented by the oil companies?

Earthshot ( ripped even the name off someone else) does the same for Willy . Yes it helps make him look like he does something when in truth he does nothing apart from photo ops. But it tries to distract from Willy’s own excessive environmental footprint- hey start with reducing Willy ! How about that ? No ?
We see you

Angrycat2768 · 21/09/2023 08:23

That's a lot of staff for two people who are apparently hands on parents, do all the school runs, can't do anything at all during the school holidays because they are busy with the kids, cook their own meals, do all their own research into all the people and charities they are visiting etc etc. What are 60 people doing? And how can they all squeeze into a 4 bedroom cottage?
They are apparently hiring a CEO over the top of this to manage all the staff 🙄

cobicat · 21/09/2023 08:57

Yep, seriously rattled 😁

Iwantcakeeveryday · 21/09/2023 09:48

People criticising a tax payer funded family aren't 'rattled'. It's a discussion forum. Like we do with politicians, we can and should scrutinise what the royal family do, if it's effective, and what it costs us.

Serenster · 21/09/2023 10:37

Is it scrutiny? Reads more like spinning as hard as possible to me.

Novella4 · 21/09/2023 10:59

The irony !

As if the entire facade of the Windsors isn’t pure spin!

Novella4 · 21/09/2023 11:09

The former head of Sky news is calling for the UK press to cease being so ‘supine’ re the ‘royals’

The entire Windsor edifice has only hobbled into the 21st century due to a compliant ‘press’ - the so called rota do not ask any proper questions
Anyone see the video where a reporter politely asked for Charles’ view on Andrew being stripped of his ‘honours’
Totally ignored of course and it was close quarters- but more importantly flowed by enraged calls and emails- how DARE anyone question Charlie ?

The Windors have grown hugely wealthy on tax payer funds ( Victoria was in debt) and special exclusions from tax that the rest of us pay .
Those who don’t question this are in the wrong.
