Kate Middleton raves - today’s top story. What are they getting at?

Y’know when the Daily Mail or any other tabloid runs a random story it’s actually about something else and they’re trying really unsubtley to tell you? (Ie Ryan giggs of many affairs being painted as a loving husband with snaps of him looking absolutely miserable shortly before the affairs broke)

What are the DM trying to say here?

some interesting lines, particularly about the Chumleys staying “close to the royals”

Kate Middleton 'went to music festival' with her friend Rose Hanbury

The Princess of Wales, 41, is understood to have made her first ever visit to a music festival at the weekend, albeit a very upper-class one at Houghton Hall in Norfolk.

@LBFseBrom I can certainly relate to the dancing and drinking margaritas. Not to the £700 tip to the staff, but as a mum to a son who works in hospitality I do appreciate it.

It does make her seem more "human", especially the fact she was photographed not looking particularly dressed up or glamorous (though she is now being criticised on SM for not wearing designer gear and having "flat feet").

@MrsFinkelstein , say what ? Flat feet ?
Are they confusing her with barbie?

If it smells like a fish, swims like a fish and lives in the lake of Houghton Hall I think it is bit fishy. Funny that just a few days ago Meghan was at Taylor Swift concert.

Taylor Swift can now add the Duchess of Sussex to the list of stars who’ve caught her on the Eras Tour.

A source close to Duchess Meghan confirms to Bazaar.com that she attended Swift’s Tuesday evening show at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, and was even seen singing and dancing along to the musician’s biggest—recent and throwback—hits.

Meghan’s fun outing came just days after she and Prince Harry celebrated her 42nd birthday as a family, and almost a week after the two were photographed enjoying a celebratory dinner with friends at Tre Lune in their home city of Montecito, California. For that occasion, Meghan looked lovely in a strapless black-and-white striped dress from Posse.

Harry did not join his wife at the Swift concert, as he is in Japan on business. Today, he attended the ISPS Sports Values Summit Special Edition in Tokyo to talk about the work Sentebale, a charity he co-founded, does to help children and young people in southern Africa feel empowered, healthy, and resilient.

SoFi Stadium is about a two-hour drive from Montecito, where Harry and Meghan moved after stepping back as senior members of the royal family in 2020. Harry has been spotted at the venue as well—in 2022, when he attended the Super Bowl with cousin Princess Eugenie, who was visiting from England at the time.

Samcro - the post above is the first mention of Meghan on this thread. No-one else brought her up.

But you know, most of you complaining in this fashion (always, never) ignore any praise or support from posters like me who are both critical about aspects and positive about others. You seem to focus on the negative comments.

maybe because anything Meghan does get so many negative post/threads.

Serenster · 17/08/2023 14:19

Genuine question - does any royal get universally positive posts in this topic? Because as far as I can see the whole board exists to be critical of every member of the family and organisation. It’s not the same people being negative towards everyone, but everyone has vocal detractors.

PrincessTigger · 17/08/2023 14:23

I really like Meghan (and no I don’t have a massively logical reasoning, I just think she seems nice) but I can recognise she has made mistakes. If you just have to say she’s perfect all the time, that isn’t interesting! She also doesn’t get uniquely criticised imo - the other royals get dragged for some really random stuff.

Who knows?? All I know is that they had put together quite detailed posts with cropped/zoomed in pix of her feet from the festival photo along with Podiatrist photos detailing flat feet and "pronation" and this was very much a negative against her.

My eyes were rolling so much I started to see my brain so don't know what else they brought up.

Do you care to acknowledge who is making this thread about Meghan?

I have no idea.

As always, the tabloids make a big deal out of a perfectly ordinary occasion, like going to a music festival.

However, it does illustrate that the princess is not a stuffed shirt. I like her and Prince William very much but they do toe the party line and there is a danger they could appear to be 'stiff'.

The only picture Ive seen makes it into a very odd music festival. She is not dressed up at all (Rave chic wasnt wearing a pair of dangly earrings in my day!) and is talking to two old blokes in wax jackets! Apparently this rave is non stop dance music! The DM are really going to town on this story. Does it really justify several stories, when the first one did nothing but whip up some forgotten rumours about Rose Hanbury again?

asterdaisy · 18/08/2023 03:32

It is a strange story. It says she went to dinner with rose and her husband. Was persuaded to go to a music festival in the grounds where she had dinner again and someone in her party left a large tip. Drunk margaritas and the only photo of her is with two elderly men wearing was jackets at a so called festival.
It does not add up. I have no idea what is made up and what is true and why it has been made up.

Serenster · 18/08/2023 06:16

One of the “elderly men” you refer to is Rose’s husband, though, the Marquess of Cholmondeley (he’s 63). And Kate’s standing in front of another woman who may well be Rose.

Given the Cholmondeleys were the hosts of the festival I think it very likely they had a separate area where they could observe it without being part of the crowd. Which is likely where the photo was taken.

asterdaisy · 18/08/2023 08:23

Do men in their sixties who go to a dance music festival normally wear wax jackets? Maybe if they are just popping down from their stately him to see how the festival in their grounds is getting on. But surely not if they are actually planning to attend and enjoy a dance music festival.
But the claim that Kate had dinner twice in the same evening makes it clear that Prometheus of this story at least is made up. Nobody goes for dinner with friends and then heads off to a four course dinner nearby.

and just because she’s holding a margarita (that’s full!) doesn’t mean she drank it

True.
Maybe to answer the OP all that happened was Kate went for dinner and the rest is made up to make Kate seem more trendy? After all in the photo with the two men in wax jackets there is no sign of a festival so that photo could have been taken anywhere.

StartupRepair · 18/08/2023 08:29

Yes I was confused by the two dinners. And how she was dressed as if she knew she was going to a festival, not just popping out from a posh dinner party.

Yes blimey even if I was just going out for dinner in a restaurant I'd dress up a bit. A posh dinner party would not warrant jeggjngs and a stretchy top! And why would the men take their wax jackets to the party? It all sounds made up. I'd imagine Kate is very particular about her food intake. As if she would eat two dinners!

Serenster · 18/08/2023 08:39

There is no sign of a festival so that photo could have been taken anywhere.

There’s some red lighting going on the left hand side of the picture, above what looks like a barrier between where the people in the photo are standing and where the lighting is…

(I am also always amused by people who decide that something must be false because they would not wear those clothes/do that thing. Next time you’re invited to dinner at a stately home with the peers who live there who are also hosting a rave festival in their grounds that evening, I’m sure that would be very relevant. Otherwise - it pretty much means nothing!)

MrsFinkelstein · 18/08/2023 10:08

But @Serenster as Downton Abbey and The Crown (top notch documentaries as well all know) have shown us - dinners at Stately Homes with Princesses and Marchionesses all involve tiaras and full length ballgown. At all times.

Frankly, if I was having a casual dinner with friends who were holding a 3 day festival in their muddy fields that's probably exactly the outfit I'd choose to wear were I to pop into the VIP tent area to neck some margaritas and maybe have a bite of a burger or a kebab.

And if my husband was 60+ and a longstanding member of that social set AND WE LIVED IN NORFOLK FFS (can't believe people have entirely missed that part) damn sure he'd be wearing a wax jacket to a rave. Totally in keeping with that particular rustic aesthetic.

AliceOlive · 18/08/2023 10:13

@Serenster i thought she went to dinner and they talked her into coming back a different night for the festival. Not that she went to dinner then they all went straight to the festival.

MrsFinkelstein · 18/08/2023 10:52

Also when you read the article it also says Kate was in the restaurant where you can get a 4 course meal if you want (not that she did), and that she drank margaritas and had a bit of the dessert that was on offer.

It also says she was wearing a dress - which she clearly isn't in the photo.

Why does everyone take what's reported as gospel? It's clear she went there and who she went with. Other than that we have no idea how long she stayed or what else happened regarding dancing or food or drink.

That word "attended" is doing a lot of heavy lifting here. Looks like all the lights were on, but nobody was in. I suspect this pop up restaurant is at the edge of things - after this meal in the main house Kate expressed she would like a closer look. The now closed restaurant was swept by her security. She spent a few minutes glimpsing in the distance pilled up posh ravers whilst having a cocktail and finger food and allowed a cheeky photo to be taken to establish street credibility (didn't work) and then summarily left and the distance home is 11 minutes by car. All rather odd.

Key takeaways Kate and Rose are now besties once again.

Also, most of the articles use the same photo from 2016 which is an essay in itself.
