Kate Middleton raves - today’s top story. What are they getting at?

Y’know when the Daily Mail or any other tabloid runs a random story it’s actually about something else and they’re trying really unsubtley to tell you? (Ie Ryan giggs of many affairs being painted as a loving husband with snaps of him looking absolutely miserable shortly before the affairs broke)

What are the DM trying to say here?

some interesting lines, particularly about the Chumleys staying “close to the royals”

Kate Middleton 'went to music festival' with her friend Rose Hanbury

The Princess of Wales, 41, is understood to have made her first ever visit to a music festival at the weekend, albeit a very upper-class one at Houghton Hall in Norfolk.

Or print stories about someone going to the dentist!

Quite a massive difference in a celeb being papped coming out of a Dentist and malicious gossip about an alleged affair for which there is no proof.

Not sure why my comment was deleted but again, there is no evidence whatsoever of any affair apart from the imaginations of some people. Rumours fuelled by people who admitted they lied about an affair doesn't make it the truth.

I’d say it was because you called someone either stupid or dumb. Another poster did the same - I was a bit ‘taken aback’ when I read those insults on the two posts but I didn’t bother reporting them because like some others on here, I never report posts. anymore. Both you, and the others poster, had the posts deleted .

My guess is someone complained about the posts, or mumsnet was looking at the thread as they do, and deleted them unasked. I wasn’t surprised to find them deleted.

Pippa named her baby Rose

She asked her sister to do this to "save face" and quash the rumours

The first person who mentioned an affair was an American woman who later admitted to making it up

Probably chased by lawyers. No evidence meant she had to "drop it"

So not only does the lack of any evidence prove that it’s true, the fact that there is ample evidence contradicting the story also proves that it’s true? How convenient…

I mean, does it really matter if William is shagging about all over the place? It's not a big deal in those circles. I would be gobsmacked if the Wales's divorced. Kate has basically subsumed her entire life into being Williams wife and William knows the stability of the Monarchy is at stake if there's another scandal. He must also realise thst Kate is the perfect Royal wife. The only reason we know about the other affairs was because of the divorces. Right up to the end of Charles and Diana's marriage the rumours were denied by the Palace and often the press until they themselves decided to speak out, then all the stuff that the press had been hiding for years came tumbling out

We're in a different era now. The only reason Charles and Diana's divorce was so shocking is because divorce was not acceptable in that era.

Now, 3 out of 4 children of the Queen got divorced. Anne's son got divorced. And many royals around Europe also got divorced.
Close to 50% of marriage in the UK end in divorce. Looking at my own family, my parents and all of their siblings are divorced. It is very normalized nowadays. A divorce will not rock the monarchy especially if the split is amicable.

Obviously, none of us know the truth so there is no need to speculate but I wish them the best and happiness.

If it's not true, I feel bad for them because this seems to be a rumour that will never truly go away and for the children too, who knows what they heard. Children can be mean and repeat what they've heard from their parents. William, himself, used to be teased a lot at Eton during the War of the Waleses.

IcedPurple · 15/08/2023 14:05

I don't really have any opinion on William's alleged affair. I don't find the 'evidence' particularly compelling but then again who really has a clue what's going on in a stranger's marriage?

However, I don't buy the notion that the upper classes are all indulging in torrid affairs and nobody bats an eyelid. I think those stereotypes date back to the days when aristocratic marriages were arranged for dynastic purposes, and divorce was considered shameful. Nowadays, royals and assorted other toffs tend to marry for love, and as someone above pointed out, 3 out of 4 of the queen's children, as well as her sister, got divorced. So I'm not sure the younger generation would be prepared to turn a blind eye to their partner's cheating in the way their parents or grandparents might have done. Of course couples might stay together despite one of them cheating, but that happens in all social classes, as a quick read of the 'Relationships' forum would confirm.

There’s absolutely loads of cropped photos of them published by the press, maliciously cropping out her husband, or the Queen, or both of them. Lapped up by watchers of tv fiction too, it appears.

How many pictures were there of our queen with her husband when she was having an affair with PoW?

The husband or wife being there does not mean much.

Is that not the essence of affairs - it goes on hidden in plain sight?

Is that not why there is much carnage?

The PoW is vunerable now in my opinion.

The king made his mistress queen of the land. That would have been extremely hard if not impossible to pull off in a time gone by.

It makes the Princess of Wales vunerable, "changeable".

The men in that family can and will do as they please.

You could say that that move is King Charles greatest achievement!😁

Yep, it’s the children who suffer most from this gossip. Rose’s children, Kate snd William’s children. The school yard can be harsh.

same with the gossips that push that Harry and Meghan are unhappy and their marriage in trouble. Harry’s oldest child will be at school next year most likely - and thus it begins for him too:,

Henry VIII and Alexander II of Russia have entered the chat…😀

So what you are basically saying is that once malicious rumours start, nothing will be accepted as disproving them? That seems somewhat unfair, to all involved.

jeffgoldblum · 15/08/2023 17:00

Gossiping about the state of someone's marriage when kids are involved is disgusting, no matter who they are .

pilates · 15/08/2023 17:07

I agree Morestrangerthings both couples have had days out/nights out recently and straight away they are splitting up or their marriage is on the rocks. It’s beyond weird and not nice for the children involved.

Body language does matter. You can go find old pictures of Diana and Camilla together and you could feel the tension. Diana's body language, especially is extremely cold.

We don't see it with the Queen and Penny, she was always relaxed and smiling around her.

I feel terrible for Rose's twins especially. They're 14. This is the age where all of their friends are on social media.

George, Charlotte, Louis, Iris (Rose's daughter) and Archie are younger so I hope they aren't aware of all these rumours about their parents

Perhaps the most ridiculous thing on this thread is the repeated description of a woman in her 40s with school aged children as a "young mum". Although as someone with similar statistics perhaps I should run with it. Grin

As well as implying that she is just an average mum, who needs to decompress from having the kids 24/7, like any one of us Hmm.

I don’t dislike what I’ve seen of her but there is a ludicrous desire from fans to either paint her as a ‘normal mum’ or some beatific deity that embodies perfection in all things, at all times and can never be criticised or questioned.

I’m not sure that’s a great comparison.

Diana was much more ‘heart on sleeve’, not great at hiding her feelings (as far as aristos go). Whereas QEII was much more duty above all else and would put her personal feelings aside if the role required it. She was very well practiced at hiding her true feelings.

I wrote ‘some’ people are ‘dumb’ enough to believe a rumour. It wasn't specific to one person. I didn't even mention any names. It could be anyone, people in twitter, people in other social media sites. How is it an insult when it is actually dumb/silly/foolish to believe in unverified/unproven rumours?

Yes because this totally makes sense. Kate would go to the extent of asking her sister to name her baby after the woman who supposedly hurt her all in effort to ‘save face’, and Pippa would comply to naming her only daughter after a woman who hurt her sister.

As for the American woman being chased by lawyers, how do you know this happened? And no evidence means just that, a made up story with no facts to back it up. She admitted she made it up, so not sure why her admitting to this is supposed to imply that something nefarious happened to her.

I think we can be certain they won't be hammering MN for gossip, that said I won't shed a single tear for their privileged, cosseted entitled lives literally royally lording over us. I would cheer a tumbril though ...

She has shopped at Sainsbury lest we forget (once) (tip Lidl/Aldi would be better optics if you pull that stunt again and don't forget to put a few things in the food bank bin.)

Actually Kate’s been photographed doing her grocery shopping at least 8 separate times, mostly in the Waitroses in Anglesey and Norfolk, but also a couple of times at Tesco. And once buying a takeaway pizza at a service station. So I don’t think it’s a stunt. She and William also recently restocked a food bank that had their stores robbed, you’ll be pleased to hear.
