Harry and Meghan make surprise phone calls to young leaders in the US

I actually really liked this video, it’s them doing what they have always done best. I want to see more things like this, hope it marks a change in tactics.

It also has a very “royal” feel: e.g. there have been recent reports about a split but they’re not arguing in the gutter they’re rising above it and proving them wrong, they’re using their spotlight to shine onto other people, etc.

Only criticism: why are they filming people on the phone?! Makes me think of The Apprentice 😂 use Zoom!!

On a scale of 1 to 10 how condesending do you think that paragraph was?

😂

This is the kind of annoying post that supports my theory that many people like sniping here more than we care about H&M or the RF.

Accuse someone of using a word a certain way. When they explain their usage call them condescending or whatever. Someone else comes along and agrees.

I see this type of thing and want to argue with the posters doing it, no matter what they say.

royalist- isn't that a term that royalists use themselves though @AliceOlive ? It's an institution that is loved in a similar way to religious figures and I thought royalist was a term that people take on themselves.

I think we all understand that there are derogatory ways to use terms and that the intent becomes quite clear when you know who is using a word.

I’ve been called a royalist as a way to dismiss some of my opinions. But I’m American. It always cracks me up.

Look @IcedPurple - we will have to agree to disagree.

For you - he is underachieving, gossip mongrel and is not interesting.

(Having said that, you are a prolific poster on all threads related to him or MM so I need to square that circle somehow.)

In interviews, to me, he seems thoughtful, intelligent, and as emotionally honest as he can be in the circumstances.

I see him as an underdog.

I see him as an unexpected success!

I know you don't. And that is fine.

I listed out, in a previous post, what I think his achievements are.

Not that it really matters, but I am not actually a 'prolific poster' on these threads. Not sure where you got that from.

My question wasn't about what you yourself think of Harry. My question was what your evidence is that he 'personally' is of huge global interest. I see you don't really have any.

Roussette · 04/08/2023 16:42

I never think of Royalist as a derogatory term though? As Cake says, it's what a lot of 'those that support the RF' call themselves. And a bit different to fan, stan, fangirl, and shill !
Is Monarchist better?

His book sales indicate to me that he personally is of interest.

Not to you - I inderstand that But my interpretation is that.

I think people get to decide if they are royalist or not, not others deciding for them.

When I want to refer to those who support the RF then... I have to say 'those that support the RF'
Bit long winded 😅

I can say it because I think I'm pretty well aware of my own posting record.

I am certainly not 'always posting'. I go weeks without posting here at all. I do lurk a fair bit, however, and as a result I know that there are posters who post here multiple times a day, pretty much every day. I'm not even close to that rate of posting so no, I'm not 'always posting' and am not by any stretch 'one of the most prolific posters on the RF threads'. Not by a long shot.

I’m sure you can do it 😀 words aren’t rationed, and I’m sure yours are not on the topic

I would on balance keep a constitutional monarchy but it’s not so much the RF that does it for me, it’s a system I prefer over others

So royalist doesn’t fit and I’d say no thanks to that term even though I’d not scrap them

Good points! I'll try Grin That's all I can promise! And certainly from your explanation 'royalist' does not fit you!

It's not about what I 'think'. I* *know I am nowhere near being "one of the most prolific posters on the RF thread", nor am I 'always posting' as you wrongly claimed. There are posters on this thread alone who probably post more in a typical day than I do in weeks.

I have no idea what 'figures' you are referring to. If I were indeed "one of the most prolific posters on the RF thread" I'd happily admit to it. But I'm not.

Roussette · 04/08/2023 17:08

As I said, I'll leave it there. No point in disagreeing on something like this. It all depends on the interpretation of 'prolific'

Serenster · 04/08/2023 17:17

Lots of personal attacks. Lovely! Not the best way to persuade someone to expect your point of view, I find.

You may not, but some certainly do use it in a derogatory manner. On RFF it’s almost always usually used to mean “you only criticize H&M because you are drinking the RF koolaid.” It’s exactly why people don’t want to be called fans. It’s code for “You’re foolish and blind and lack objectivity, you absolute dumbass!”

AliceOlive · 04/08/2023 17:36

We were point blank told by MN not to talk about how often people post here.

If you don’t like it being done to you, while pile on?

"Prolific" is open to interpretation, yes, However, you specifically claimed I was "one of the most prolific posters on the RF thread" which really isn't open to interpretation, and is factually incorrect.

I haven't done anything like others have posted about me... how many threads, how many posts, different timescales, posts of mine brought up from literally years ago, and far more. I didn't notice you sticking up for me then! I just disagreed on prolific or not prolific, and suggested then to leave it twice.

Samcro · 04/08/2023 17:47

What’s wrong with being a prolific poster?
some people post a lot(me☠️ including)
why do people have to pretend they don’t?

BethDuttonsTwin · 04/08/2023 17:48

onlylarkin · 04/08/2023 16:27

@BethDuttonsTwin because Harry doesn't want to come back.

It surprises me that so many people think that being in the BRF is the end game, but Harry was not happy there and he made the choice to leave. Harry is not going back.

I do hope that the family can mend fences for the future, but lots of families have conflict and estrangement is higher now than ever.

I meant back to popularity, not the BRF.

No, you are right, I have not read every RF thread nor replied to every post I thought was off. Why do you ask this kind of question? Do you really think whomever responds to you in moment is responsible for the history of all the posts on mumsnet RF that you ever didn’t like?

I have been on forums that had rules about dragging in the past or posts from other threads and sometimes wish we had that here. What someone else said to you another day on another thread has nothing to do with what’s going on here in the moment. And it doesn’t excuse you doing the same to someone else.
