The royal family

This is a thread about Tina writing a nasty article about the Middletons, why are people suddenly thread-jacking to make it about the Sussexes work life?

Can we not have one single royal thread that doesn't descend into nitpicking everything about Harry and Meghan? I swear, someone could start a light hearted thread about corgies and by page 10 it would be posters dragging up Meghan not wearing tights in 2018 or something.

Someone even dragged some Meghan bashing into a completely unrelated thread about cakes in Chat the other day. I don't get it.

Because that was OP's intent. Harry's brutal take. Not Tina's. No clarification that any of the quotes aren't actually Harry's. It was never going to be a neutral thread was it?

I was following on from the uncertainty over what he does for Travelyst. And the OP doesn’t seem to be about ‘nasty Tina’ does it?

constantly getting on board with this project or that project but nothing seems to come of them

For example?

To be fair, I think that criticism is justified when their activities on 2020 are looked at. That year they announced:

March 2020: they will “collectively make a change in the armed forces arena”
Apri 2020 - their efforts will be focussed on fighting the global pandemic.
Also April 2020: the launch of Archewell, described as a charitable foundation to run emotional support groups, an educational empire and a well-bring website.
June 2020 : “over the past few weeks the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have turned their focus toward Black Lives Matter”
September 2020: Netflix deal announced - it’s announced they’ll produce environmental documentaries and an Invictus documentary
December 2020 - Spotify deal to produce audio content announced

That is…a lot, all quite scattershot, and also a lot for two people and a new foundation to focus on all at once. Obviously some things were going to fall by the wayside.

They have done a lot better since at being more focussed, but some things have been announced and appear to have never been seen of again - the 40 x 40 initiative and their roles as partners with a Wall Street Ethical investment form, for example.

Its nothing out of the ordinary for a charitable foundation that supports small charities via grants and funding. You've included work for their production company in the list. Lots of people in their position have work they do and charitable activities they undertake via foundations too. None of that is unusual at all. The royals have a lot of charities they support, hundreds, and most of them I never hear anything about despite having to actually pay the royals for their 'service'.

PrincessTigger · 07/08/2023 14:10

What’s a little confusing is that the charitable foundation and production company both have the same name, Archewell (Lilibet is making note of this for her own tell-all autobiography one day 🤣) so it’s not always clear which objective goes where. Maybe that’s the point though, the two are supposed to act in fusion?

I’m surprised that the Sussex Royal website is still active. Domain names and site hosting cost money (albeit not a lot but enough to buy a few wheatgrass juices). Why keep it going (and not update it?).

Probably so that nobody else can use it
