BBC link: Public asked to swear allegiance to King Charles

Apparently during the coronation service, we'll all being asked to swear "true allegiance" to Charles and his heirs.

That's a no from me.

The new photos were taken in the Blue Drawing Room at Buckingham Palace

Coronation: Public asked to swear allegiance to King Charles

The pledge is among several changes to the service, which will incorporate female clergy and other faiths.

@BeatricePortinari so do you believe the bulk of the country are behind him and Camilla?

Polls seem to vary hugely, particularly by age group.

But none show the 97% against him this thread would lead you to believe.

GettingThereCharleyBear · 02/05/2023 22:20

@user1492757084 how does a hereditary monarchy protect our democracy? 😂

Flappingtarps · 02/05/2023 22:45

I am happy to see inclusivity

I can’t believe that anyone would use that sentence with regard to anything even tangentially connected to the RF, never mind the swearing of allegiance.

It’s an incredibly un-British thing to do apart from anything else, even if it’s just an invitation, it highlights the absurdity of the whole shebang. I mean, what purpose does it serve unless you are an immigrant receiving nationality or a member of the armed forces.

I can’t quite believe William is happy to do it either. Maybe as heir he has no choice. But I wouldn’t if my mother had been eradicated from history!

TorringtonDean · 02/05/2023 22:55

I don’t think Camilla is at all embarrassed - she seems to be loving it. It’s a power grab by the Parker Bowles clan - loads of them there.

vera99 · 03/05/2023 05:55

If only Harry could raise a People’s Army with a good contingent of Celts in their ranks to take on the degraded House of Parker Bowles and seize the Crown on behalf of his mum. Which in modern money is pretty much what he is doing brining the Colonies Revolution home from whence it came. A bit like Poldark.

Yes good old Harry -the Cornish Conquerer. Rising up against the Parker Bowles at Tin mine!

vera99 · 03/05/2023 06:09

Or settled by an old-fashioned duel between Willy and Harold at dawn in Hyde Park. If the home clan have any sense they should make public shows of affection for Harry as that would be PR gold and put them on the front foot, of family, forgiveness and all that - even if it’s just an act for 24 hours in front of the cameras. I'm looking at you Kate ...

Flappingtarps · 03/05/2023 06:20

I hope Harry wears a “team Diana” polo shirt 😃

Not sure about the ‘looking at you Kate,’ bit, but I agree happy faces all round would be good PR.

Morestrangerthings · 04/05/2023 03:16

Actually I’ve quickly rethought that, if there are happy faces all round, then Meghan Dislikers will be pushing the ‘see how happy it all is when Meghan’s not here,’ aka ‘She’s the problem.

Stupid idea. Makes zero difference if you're a monarchist and for those of us that aren't it just pisses us off. He's meant to serve us; that is the deal and why we grudgingly put up with this nonsense. They can all fuck off.

Monty Python had it right:

“King Arthur: I am your king.
Peasant Woman: Well, I didn't vote for you.
King Arthur: You don't vote for kings.
Peasant Woman: Well, how'd you become king, then?
[Angelic music plays... ]
King Arthur: The Lady of the Lake, her arm clad in the purest shimmering samite, held aloft Excalibur from the bosom of the water, signifying by divine providence that I, Arthur, was to carry Excalibur. That is why I am your king.
Dennis the Peasant: Listen. Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.
Arthur: Be quiet!
Dennis the Peasant: You can't expect to wield supreme power just 'cause some watery tart threw a sword at you!”

Monty python gold. 🤣🤣

And the prayers and best wishes of many is a powerful positive force for King Charles.

Charles’ cup already runneth over. How much more good luck are we supposed to wish him?

Sudeko · 04/05/2023 08:27

Dump a few blocks of lard in the coronation quiche as a nod to the cost of living crisis. "Let them eat lard!"
I bet Duchy don't sell it.

Roussette · 04/05/2023 08:28

I think even the quiche is ridiculous! I mean... honestly... coronation chicken was great, everyone could rustle that up. But tarragon and broad beans? Hardly in the reach of your normal shopper. Horrible anyway. And I love quiche and make my own.

I agree. It was also easy to swap out the chicken for vegan protein. Vegan quiche is all kinds of wrong.

Sky reporting that Jamaica wanting to become a republic and sever ties with the Monarchy as HoS, as early as 2024.

The Coronation has sped up this decision apparently.

Please don't pray for Charles - a double-blind clinical trial reported slightly worse outcomes in patients that were prayed for than those that weren't. So you could be actively causing him harm....

What coronation? Many Australians don’t know when it’s on and few seem inclined to recite the oath

A Header in todays Guardian Australia. It’s hard to find anyone here who knows when it’s on apparently. June? July? They ask. One Brit, in Aus for past 6 most mths, can’t find anywhere to celebrate it.

Australia is too far away and too disconnected from UK, despite government bigging up the AUKUS agreement. ‘The Tyranny of Distance.’ and other reasons.

Roussette · 04/05/2023 10:13

This made me laugh. The world's gone mad! C&C look alike on GMB, and no I don't watch that channel, it popped up on a feed. Good likeness?!

Roll on Tuesday

Will you be swearing allegiance?

Good for Jamaica!

vera99 · 04/05/2023 12:53
