Yes the morphine must have helped in all sorts of ways.

It is not a nice photograph by any standards.

You say potato...

It's lovely! It's like a proper family photo

It is not a nice photograph by any standards. Even if you discount the wonky composition, the Queen's look of misery is heightened by the rather forced-looking grins of her young relatives. If the Queen wasn't in smiling mood, which might be understandable, Kate should have asked the others to look natural, rather than grin.

If they all looked contemplative, like James (?) in the back row, it would have been a much better shot. And a bit of judicious cropping might have fixed some of the composition issues. But, no, Kate 'releases' it with a flourish, probably because no one dared to tell her that it wasn't very good.

wash your mouth out - treasonous heresy and less than 3 weeks to go to the £100 million funny hat ceremony at which the Emperor has no clothes. 😀

That's me told. Off with my head!

James 1/ Queen Mary 1 'Bloody Mary' did a roaring trade in witch burnings to cleanse the realm. And yet Mary continued in royal use in the 20th century. Funny that !

Hbh17 · 21/04/2023 20:26

Why do people have to be so nasty? It's a charming family photo, taken by a non-professional. Many of us are happy to see it.

You're not being serious and if anyone reacts to you as if you're being serious needs to have a word with themselves.

She must have been off her tits of morphine to get through that meeting with Truss so close to the end.

You’re disgusting and I’ve reported your post.

Just why would you refer to anyone in that way when they were very ill let alone an older person who was of a different time and manner.

What was wrong with it?

TheObstinateHeadstrongGirl · 22/04/2023 01:36

People who make vulgar and derogatory comments about a dead woman are fucking weird and perhaps need to see a therapist.

PussBilledDuckyPlait · 21/04/2023 14:33

It's not very well composed.

There's always one!!!! Who cares, it's a lovely photo of a woman with some of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, why must people find fault with everything?

user1492757084 · 22/04/2023 05:09

It's a lovely record of a family gathering.
Any photo of the late, dear, Queen Elizabeth sparks interest and to see the kids is always cute.
Thank you to The Princess of Wales for sharing her photoghraph and to the children and their parents for allowing it to be published.
All of the children look adorable and happy.

CoolShoeshine · 22/04/2023 07:46

wtf is the ‘it’ that people keep referring to but won’t say on this thread?

Photo is lovely. H&M won’t have a problem with their children not being on the photo because they didn’t accept the invitation to Balmoral last summer and they choose not to have their children’s faces shown to the public.

But why was it vulgar or derogatory? Isn't it pretty standard for palliative care patients to be on high doses of painkillers?

Because we don't know for sure what she died of.

Myeloma (ie bone marrow cancer, what Gyles Brandreth said she had) is a long term condition, one which you may well die with, rather than die of. Pain management is a feature of care (pain is a symptom n at least 80% of cases) and pain management plans are decided depending on the nature and extent of the pain.

High doses are used when indicated, but it's neither inevitable nor constant

mixedrecycling · 22/04/2023 08:20

My, some people like to find things to criticise.

Wonky, not smiley enough, not composed well enough.

It looks like the sort of family photo that usually gets taken at family get togethers. And, since QE2 died shortly after, is probably the last with some many of the grands/great grands, which is why it was chosen.

I've got a photo I cherish of my daughter, mother and great-aunt (and me) a few weeks before my great-aunt died in her 90s, taken by one of her carers. I am sure it has all sorts of failures of composition, and none of us have achieved our best angle for the lens. Mum still uses it as her laptop wallpaper several years on. None of us would swap it for a more formal photo, even if the more formal photo was a 'better' photo.

TheObstinateHeadstrongGirl · 22/04/2023 08:23

PussBilledDuckyPlait · 21/04/2023 14:43

So they just happened to be standing in formation around the sofa and Kate whipped her phone out?😂

Well they were all in the same place (we know this, given that they’re ya know, all together) with a matriarch who wasn’t gonna live much longer so yes I imagine this is something like what happened. What did you think happened?

When we all knew my DH’s granny (mother of 8 surviving children and very much the matriarch/boss of the family) highly likely wouldn’t make it another year (and she didn’t) we all took about a million photos at the family party on Boxing Day. We would never all be in the same room again.

I didn't know QE had bone cancer?

I love the photo.

She didn’t but slightly unhinged people on here are incapable of realising that an elderly woman can simply just die of old age

Because they’re probably miserable in their own life. The photo I agree is lovely and even the staunchest of republicans must recognise what a photo like this means to an elderly woman in her last weeks/months

Would you ever describe a 96yo patient as being ‘off her tits on morphine’? Especially when you have literally no idea whatsoever what her end of life care looked like.

So was it vulgar because I said "tits"?

Yes of course it’s vulgar because you said “off her tits” and speculated about a dead woman you don’t know’s illness and end of life care. What is wrong with you?

She almost certainly didn't.

One v well connected journo (Gyles Brandreth) has said that she had a completely different condition bone marrow cancer (which is a form of blood cancer)

But we don't know, even assuming he is correct, that that is what she died of (as opposed to it being a condition she had at time of death)

Giles Brandreth is not a journalist, he’s a writer and has written books about the RF and said “he heard” she “may” have had bone marrow cancer. He has after dinner speaking slots to fill after all, so clearly his lack of integrity in talking about the health of a woman he was barely connected with has gone down the toilet. in the meantime I’ll be taking the word on her death certificate. My grandad died recently, at a similar age simply of old age.

Ah. Thats lovely. I'm so saddened that after such a long reign she had to die such a painful death. Bone cancer is just hideous.

You say this as if it's gospel. It's rumour!
