Kate 'resents' not having final moment to say goodbye to Queen

I'm sure Camilla doesn't read the sun. After decades of abuse at the hands of the media, she probably reads literary classics at breakfast.

How are you sure of anything someone you don't know does? But Camilla did invite Sun columnist Jeremy Clarkson to her party.

Do people normally invite journalists to their parties? I do because I am one and some of my colleagues are also my friends, but most people don't.

But given that I am not most people, I'd still be careful about my friends. If one of my party guests wrote a nasty column in The Sun about a delicate family matter, even if he thought he was being helpful, I would not be happy with that person. Would you?

She didn't invite anyone given it was someone else's party. I don't condone Clarkson's article either. It was appallling just like GOT itself

mixedrecycling · 23/04/2023 16:54

Maybe after years of abuse from the tabloids she doesn't bother about them? If she cared about them then she would hardly get through the day. And takes the view that their (changeable) targets should just ignore them? Not saying that is the answer in the long term, but given what has been said about her in the gutter press she might have just decided to ignore it all.

Strangely many of the posters so appalled by the tabloid comments about Meghan repeat the tabloid slurs about Camilla as an 'other woman'. While saint Diana was also an 'other woman' - but that is excusable...

@derxa That's good, but the fact remains that if someone people believed to be my friend who I'd invited to my party, whether that was true or not, said something disobliging about a delicate family matter, I would not be happy even if they thought they were doing me a favour. Would you? I can't imagine much worse for family relations.

It would be even worse if that something appeared in his column in The Sun. I would find that hard to forgive and would let it be known it wasn't my opinion and tell my staff, (I think we can agree that Camilla has those), that this person was not welcome in my presence and I did not wish to be embarrassed again. I might even do something to make it clear that I really liked Meghan just to make it absolutely clear that I didn't agree with Jeremy Clarkson's shit-hurling fantasies.

Maybe Camilla has. but if so I've missed it. So I conclude she wasn't embarrassed by the disgusting things Jeremy Clarkson fantasised about happening to Meghan Markle.

I like Game of Thrones but that's neither here nor there.

polkadotdalmation · 23/04/2023 18:34

But the infamous GOT article appeared after the lunch. Camilla was probably far more interested in Judi dench and Maggie smith, than piers Morgan and Jeremy clarkson. Probably didn't even know who they were. She doesn't exactly look like a Top Gear fan to me.

So nice how people rewrite history and expect people to have a crystal ball.

derxa · 23/04/2023 18:45

I like Game of Thrones But why? It's a pile of misogynistic crap.

Yes, it did. That's why I thought he might have drawn inspiration for it and was emboldened to write it from chat at the lunch. Maybe he didn't, but that's what it looked like a gossip story written by a journalist (which Clarkson is) after an event. Nothing wrong with a journalist doing that That's what he's there for.

If Camilla thought it was bad she could have conveyed that in some way. If she did, I missed it.

Why do you think Camilla would have been more interested in talking to Judi Dench and Maggie Smith than Piers Morgan and Jeremy Clarkson? I'd have thought they were all amusing company she'd get on with which was why they were invited.

Viviennemary · 23/04/2023 18:56

Camilla invited who she wanted. Why should she consider Meghan who wasnt even the country at the time. In any case Camilla has had much worse written about her so probably takes it all with a large pinch of salt.

I think it takes a particular sort of person to befriend a young woman just out of her teens, and pretend to mentor them, while (allegedly) sleeping with her fiancé. And then to continue that relationship once dc are involved.

And anyway it’s not the infidelity that people object to, it’s the dishonesty and the attempts at cover up afterwards.

polkadotdalmation · 23/04/2023 19:02

@limitedperiodonly Are you actually saying clarkson drew inspiration from meeting Camilla and this encouraged (or she encouraged?) him to write that piece? Seriously? I think that's a stretch even from someone who hates Camilla.

As to why Camilla (elderly, self deprecating, female) would prefer to talk to Judy Dench and Maggie Smith (elderly, self deprecating, female) rather than two loud mouthed men full of their own sense of self importance, I can't imagine.

limitedperiodonly · 23/04/2023 19:02

@polkadotdalmation how do you know whether Camilla is a Top Gear fan or not? I used to watch it because I liked their feature on Star In A Reasonably-Priced Car and it was on because my husband liked it and I don't own the remote control and he is allowed to watch things I am not particularly interested in.

Years before that I first noticed Jeremy Clarkson when he had a column in the 1980s in a glossy car magazine my husband bought. Fast Car or Vroom! Vroom! was the title.

The magazine was deadly dull with articles about torque and stuff. I'd always turn to Clarkson's page and chortle, except when he wanked on about Princess Di, Kristin Scott Thomas or more alarmingly, Margaret Thatcher.

Maybe Camilla thinks the same.

No! It's the women who end up with all the power, have you actually watched it? It's like Macbeth, Richard 3rd and a whole load of other Shakespearean plays rolled in to one. With dragons!

polkadotdalmation · 23/04/2023 19:04

@limitedperiodonly All I'm saying is you've made a whole load of assumptions, based in nothing.

It makes irrationally angry. I managed a couple of episodes. Gratuitous violence and nudity. Porn for the middle classes who like to wang on about story arcs. As for dragons that puts it in the 'goblin film' category for me. I can't abide fantasy. DH loved it but I had to leave the room. Glad I got that off my chest!!!

@polkadotdalmation that is exactly what I am saying.

I am a journalist. People who are not journalists often ask me where I get the inspiration for my stories. I tell them that people tell me things.

How likely do you think it would be that a journalist with a column in The Sun and The Sunday Times, like Jeremy Clarkson, would be within a million miles of a party with Camilla if she didn't want him there?

I have one up on you. It's fucking impossible.

polkadotdalmation · 23/04/2023 19:18

@derxa All the women got their revenge and came out on top. Cersei had them all blown to smithereens, Sansa saw her rapist husband torn to shreds, Danaeris becomes queen and rules over many kingdoms after being married of to a brute. I'm with your DH on this one!

limitedperiodonly · 23/04/2023 19:19

and not to dismiss Maggie Smith or Judi Dench, why would Camilla or Judi or Maggie not want to talk to Jeremy Clarkson or Piers Morgan?

Do you think elderly ladies just want to talk about knitting? I don't.

polkadotdalmation · 23/04/2023 19:19

@limitedperiodonly For a journalist your language is surprisingly childish, but I will go away and grow up, just for you.

polkadotdalmation · 23/04/2023 19:20

It didn't work out so happily for Dany

limitedperiodonly · 23/04/2023 19:22

Or Cersei, actually. Did you actually watch it to the end @polkadotdalmation ?

It works for me. What language do you think I should use? What is your job? It doesn't matter because I wouldn't dream of telling you how to do it.

limitedperiodonly · 23/04/2023 19:32

@derxa Game of Thrones was very good. They toned down the sexposition after the first series and it had strong female characters though not all of them were noble or came to a happy end. But that's how it should be. If you don't want to watch it there are plenty of other things to see.

I agree with this. Given her contempt for Diana, I would not expect her to like Diana's children either who are living reminders of the woman who almost stole her prince (now king) away forever. I bet Camilla sees the title of queen as rightly hers, being the queen of his heart.

polkadotdalmation · 23/04/2023 20:40

@limitedperiodonly Of course I watched it to the end. Dany unfortunately went bonkers like the mad king her father. But she had 6 or 7 series kicking ass big time. I loved her burning all those chieftains in that big building. priceless.
