Harry and Meghan still not replied to Coronation Invitation

Harry and Meghan still haven't replied to the invitation to the coronation even though the RSPV deadline has passed. If it's true I think it's a bit rude. They know the preparation that goes into these events. It must be a headache for the planners not to know if they are coming or not.

Apparently Arche and Lilibet aren't invited to the actual ceremony as they are deemed to be too young. My bet is they will all come to the UK for the coronation but who knows. Not heard if Andrew is coming or not. And Fergie. Will she be there. Maybe behind a pillar.

At the queens coronation all the dukes and duchesses were wearing ducal crowns. Thats not going to happen this time I dont think. I bet Meeghan would have loved that.

I suspect they enjoy ramping up the excitement and drama for their many fans (quite frankly I couldn’t give a monkey’s whether they do or not)

More like they don't want the British media to make money off of their nanes in headlines.

Also likely a test to see if their family will, Buckingham and Kensington will continue to leak to the media.

Yes, I’m sure if they confirmed their intentions it would definitely end media speculation and we definitely wouldn’t have daily articles on what Meghan might wear, whether they’ll travel by private jet, or what they’d be doing at home instead etc etc

You will get wall to wall coverage about the Sussexes anyway, whether they attend or not.

Much like the Jubilee and the funeral.

caringcarer · 06/04/2023 19:28

The press reported the Sussex duo made a lot of demands including being on the balcony and having Archie's birthday somehow acknowledged. Palace officials said the balcony is for working royals only. Princess Beatrice or Eugenie or Zara won't be on the balcony either.

Viviennemary · 06/04/2023 19:34

Of course things can be debated even if we don't know. Will the Tories win the next election, will house prices fall. Is my husband having an affair. Is there life after death. We don't know. So lets not discuss it, Ridiculous.

Oh FFS, it really would be best all round if they just don't fucking come!
Who are we kidding?
They've been sent an invitation. Great. Charles has fulfilled his obligation on that score.
They are (apparently) dithering and negotiating about whether to accept and on what terms.
IF they've missed the deadline for replying then fine. They can't be that fussed about coming so let them stay away.
And THEN, perhaps this coronation can be about who and what it's meant to be about and that is NOT Meghan and fucking Harry.

ApplesandPares · 06/04/2023 19:41

I didn’t used to believe much of what was written in the press about the Royal Family but since their very public arguments / Spare / court cases etc they’ve shown how much of it is true and actually comes from
them / their sources one way or another. It’s made it more interesting to me.l

Good old Daily Mail/Express. They play a blinder with this sort of nonsense.

Whether they have replied or not (we don't know) it is not their fault the media just will not give it a rest.

It means to me, it is clickbait, sells papers/clicks and nothing to do with what is actually happening or happened.

There's a lot of posters on here who will be very very disappointed if they don't come. It will be the source of 145 threads after all 😂

Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if there's a pregnancy announcement, an unplanned pregnancy of course, that very unfortunately prevents them attending.

BlackFriday · 06/04/2023 19:53

It is ridiculous to even countenance them coming.

If Meghan got off on wearing tiaras, ducal crowns etc, she would have stayed a tiara-wearing member of the Royal Family. She has only worn a tiara once in the last five years, on her wedding day, so I am not sure how you know what she would love to wear on her head.

PS, writing Meeghan is as puerile as writing Khate. or Kkkate

And as you are fantasising about Meghan in a crown, here is the superb portrait by Tim O'Brien, as popularised by Beyonce and Jay-Z at the BRIT Awards.

So you think they would have an unplanned pregnancy just to prevent them from travelling to London? Curious.

Is this how you decline an invitation? You have an unplanned pregnancy? Isn't it just easer for you just to RSVP no, than going through an unplanned pregnancy?

LolaSmiles · 06/04/2023 20:13

I'm not a royalist and not a fan of some of Harry and Meghan's media strategy in recent years, but the idea that if they'd made a public statement on attending or not that they'd be left alone is fanciful.

If they said they aren't coming, it would be speculation about why, and sources on all sides leaking stuff, probably another sniffly interview from H&M with things alluded to but not overtly said, Lady Whatsherface (the one who styles herself as a royal insider but was married to someone in the aristocracy) will have her say and all the people who irrationally dislike H&M would be inventing their own stories.

If they did say they are coming, we'd have weeks of how they'll travel, what they'll wear, will they or won't they be on the balcony, will any of the family want to see them, H&M in the press complaining that they're outsiders and are being treated differently to the senior working royals. The people who have an irrational love of H&M will go on right side of history campaigns on their behalf.

Rhondaa · 06/04/2023 20:37

'how do you know? it always amazes me, all these threads with made up stuff'

Because The Markles announced the arrival of The Precious Invite to the nasty ole media so I think we can guess they will pull a similar stunt to announce gracing us with their presence. They don't do low key.

It'll be funny though, seeing Harold doing his sulky glares - 'I hate the RF institution but I'm vair entitled to be here!'.

Precisely why this approach works.

Say nothing until the last minute, to avoid a circus.

If I were them I would accept on the condition that its not confirmed in the media until the day before

I suspect they RSVPed No alreasy, but the Palace is under are discussions about getting then to say yes.

And however gleeful people may be if they don't come, if you look at in the long view of history it is a very bad look for Charles that he was not able to have his son at his coronation with his mixed race wife, particular after standing behind a new study that looks at the links between royal wealth and the slave trade,

Imagine looking at pictures of this event 25 years from now, with just William and his kids , Camila and all her kids and grandkids, and a random page boy whose mother is rumoured to have had an affair with William.

People too angry to see beyond the moment have no sense of history.

Do you seriously think he'd be a pageboy if there was any truth in the smears?

They've announced their invite why not announce Harold's show/no show? No one will care about the optics in 25yrs time it is well documented with reality shows and trashy books what Harold thinks and what an arse hes been. Did that othe exiled Duke, what was he called, attend Queen Elizabeth's Coronation? No. did anyone care? No.

TrashyPanda · 06/04/2023 21:09

That portrait looks nothing like Meghan!

at first glance I thought it was Kate with shorter hair

TrashyPanda · 06/04/2023 21:19

Exactly, @Janiie

the only time Edward VIII is mentioned is in relation to his Nazi sympathies.
nobody remembers that both he and Wallis wrote books, made unkind jibes about his family - because he simply isn’t relevant.

I know! who cares if his isn't in the Coronation snaps.

It will be weirder to have him there after everything he has said in his multitude of cringeworthy chat show interviews. He needs to go full mumsnet NC. But dare he..will Netflix still pay his wages 🤔

Viviennemary · 06/04/2023 21:57

I think it does matter if they are there or not. We are still seeeing photos of the Queens coronation and that was seventy years ago. And king George VI and thats even longer ago. It does matter who is there IMHO. In 70 years H&M will be well over 100 years old. It's a scarey thought.

I have no more clue than anyone else and I’m not into the monarchy so not invested in the importance of it historically etc but simply as a parent, for Charles, if he’s like me and my DH, he would want both sons there. Maybe he doesn’t and he’s different to me. But there’s nothing my kids could ever say about me that would have me cast them off. One of my siblings has done some beyond awful legally bad things to my father, she came crawling back more than a decade later and I couldn’t understand why he talks with her. He simply said, she’s still my daughter, I can’t not answer, what if she needs me?

I'd probably do likewise and also don't blame them for keeping their head down on this one. Whatever they say this far in advance won't be left alone.

On the other hand it's likely to be a very strained event on a personal level for them if they do come. I can't imagine any family members or friends would want to have any personal conversations with them directly and are going to be very cautious about whether Harry and Meghan are close by listening into conversations. Everyone knows that they're likely to be book/press fodder now, so I'm not sure I'd want to be at a family event where everyone with sense is keeping me at arms length.

xPaz · 06/04/2023 22:23

Well, as of two hours ago, the royal correspondents on the daily mail confidential said the palace do not know yet, and will confirm when they know.

It is funny thinking of Fergie, for all her faults, she handles rejection so well! I saw a clip of her saying that she'd be watching it at home, with a nice tea. If she is sour at being rejected, she is a much better actress than MM. She gives the impression that she can't wait to watch it on TV and 100% accepts why she wasn't invited. Quite gracious of her really, as she knows Charles! Can't she have Joe Biden's seat?!
