I was shocked to see photos of Prince Edward in Edinburgh. He has lost a lot of weight. Hope he is okay. Or maybe he had covid badly?

Well when someone suddenly loses a lot of weight and looks ill I think it is natural to express concern.
But then I am not English. I do not understand this viewpoint that we should totally ignore when people do not look well and pretend it is not happening. Its like no one else matters outside our own family.

I am not English either but I wouldn’t go around commenting on someone’s appearance.

Nobody else’s business if he is ill, grieving or just lost a bit of weight except his immediate family

AbsoIutelyLovely · 12/03/2023 22:56

not rocket science hun, He has lost both his parents in the last two years ffs. . most likely grief.

I don’t really get what you’re driving at.

DessertsForAll · 12/03/2023 22:58

This is how Edward's appearance has changed in the space of a year. He is only 59.

He must be badly hit then and needing help. It is not usual, especially when your very elderly parents die, so not unexpected deaths. And yes both my parents died in far more traumatic circumstances. None of my friends had this change in their appearance when their parents died either. So if that is the cause, I hope he is getting the specialist support he obviously needs.

I am not driving at anything except being shocked at how he looks and wondering why.

I don’t know. My dad went into a nursing home in 2021 and my mum died a few months ago, just after the queen actually. I have definitely aged hugely. It does affect you 🤷‍♀️

What? I am clearly being really dim

DessertsForAll · 12/03/2023 23:06

@AbsoIutelyLovely I am sorry to hear that. Both my parents died young within weeks of each other. It devastated me. But I did not look any older within months of their deaths.

Maybe he wants to be healthy?

DessertsForAll · 12/03/2023 23:09

I have no idea whatthereal is on about. Maybe she knows the reason Edward has lost weight and thinks I am hinting at it. I am not. I haven't a clue. I even suggested it could be have been bad covid as that kills some people's appetite. I know nothing about Edward's medical history to start hinting at anything. He does not smoke. I did not think he drinks a lot of alcohol, which some of his family members do. He has always been a healthy weight. So no I am not hinting at anything.

I reckon he has taken up cycling and is having a midlife crisis obsessively cycling around country lanes in dressed in lycra-very common phenomenon in a man his age-and leads to weight loss

smilesy · 12/03/2023 23:09

I’ll ask again, why have you started an entire thread about this? What is the point apart from unpleasant speculation? And as pp said, you have started other threads denigrating the RF 🤷‍♀️

Tinner01 · 12/03/2023 23:10

He looks normal to me?! Being tall and thin runs in the family

Edward gas always been a healthy weight. Sophie is like me, a but too much middle aged spread. But not Edward.
Anyway will leave this. If it is anything more than temporary grief or a temporary illness, we will know in time. So I hope we do not learn anything.

And did you have to go out and face the press within a short time of their deaths?

Deal with your grief at their funerals being live on tv? Have little separate articles online about you reaching for your hanky?

Did you watch your children stand guard on the coffin with their cousins in front of hundreds of people and live on multiple tv channels? Right in your DDs first week at Uni.

Did your schedule get busier than ever? Was there endless discussion in your family about what to do with your nightmare brother? Did you watch your other brother take over the family firm and have a major fall out with your nephew? Did journalists go to court and try and access your fathers will?

because if not he may have been under a different kind of pressure than those of us who get to grieve in privacy

Schmutter · 12/03/2023 23:26

Maybe he's been on a diet?

Those Windsor men are not known for ageing well.

DessertsForAll · 12/03/2023 23:33

@YetMoreNewBeginnings You know I did not. But the rest of the Royal Family had to and none of them have lost weight like Edward. That does not mean it can not be grief causing this. But It would mean he is more badly affected than others in his family.

Fullofpudding · 12/03/2023 23:33

Ffs now you're slagging off Sophie with her 'middle aged spread' seriously just do one OP!!

DessertsForAll · 12/03/2023 23:37

@YetMoreNewBeginnings We actually had major issues after my parents deaths. They ran a farm (did not own it), so yes it was incredibly stressful. TBH much more than the Royals dealt with. We had no staff to help and no large pot of money to buy our way out of the work involved.
I think it is hard for anyone losing their parents. But please do not try and pretend the Royals had a uniquely hard time. We could not even have a proper funeral as we did not have the money. I was working full time caring for my disabled DD, and spending every spare moment dealing with the mess left.

myrtleWilson · 12/03/2023 23:38

It would only mean "he was more badly affected than others in his family" if the universal response to grief was weight loss. Others may have felt it affected their sleep patterns or perhaps have felt more unsettled or had a flare up of skin issues or whatever
