What happened to just call me Harry? Why would they want their children to be burdened with titles?

“When reached by PEOPLE, a spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said: "I can confirm that Princess Lilibet Diana was christened on Friday, March 3 by the Archbishop of Los Angeles, the Rev John Taylor."

@bumpytrumpy it wasn't the Queen's name, it was her nickname used only be close family. Wasn't it said that when Prince Philip died no-one would ever call her Lilibet again.

Seems somewhat crass to use such a personal name when you hate the family

Didn't see that. I know amshe and the Danish Queen uses each others nicknames calling each other Lilibeth and Daisy

I am Irish. The British RF is like a soap opera to me. Pure nonsense, often depressing but occasionally entertaining w some nice dresses. I’d be happy to see the monarchy dissolved. Don’t let that get in the way of your fairy tales. Sweet dreams!

So you're just in it for the meghan bitching, then. Got you.

Not sure who's crazier, the monarchists or the anti-monarchists piling in on their behalf.

Not bitching no, just think they are a pair of clowns. I think it’s clear you are the crazy gang babes, about two posts ago you inferred I couldn’t possibly not be a monarchist and now I’m a crazy anti monarchist who is ten times worse 🤷‍♀️ Make it make sense

No you make it make sense! you sound like arch monarchist, then you say you hate everything they stand for. But you argue as if you are one of them. Oh well, whatever. I'm going to bed!

Whenharrymetsmelly · 09/03/2023 01:16

This is where I struggle with H&M. Why would you do this if you hate the "institution" so much? It makes no sense!

Ridemeginger · 09/03/2023 01:19

Hooklander · 08/03/2023 23:30

@Ridemeginger thanks for the tip off about The Six Wives of Henry the VIII being on.

I've just turned over to see a resplendent Keith Michell looking very much like Andy Bell about to burst into a rendition of A Little Respect.

Hee hee. I was getting Wayne Sleep vibes when he was prancing around with Anne Boleyn. He got an Emmy for playing Henry. Very accomplished actor/writer/director - I'm surprised as I'd never heard of him.

Good to see a production where people look their ages, and the ladies in waiting don't look like they spent their morning at the Maybelline counter.

GiesAGonkYaDobber · 09/03/2023 01:24

Another grateful for the tip off. 👍🏼
Thanking you.

How can I have sounded like an arch monarchist when every time I have mentioned the idea I’ve rubbished it??? You need to get outside more, enjoy life, get some perspective. H & M will still be a pair of bellends.

Chasedbythechaser · 09/03/2023 01:45

It just shows really that H&M are the two family members that the majority of the public are interested in reading about. If I wasn’t interested in them, I’d have skipped past all threads that mentioned them, I wouldn’t have delved into details of their baby’s christening.

Meanwhile Kate dressed as an army officer and got no attention as usual. The royal family were very stupid to let H&M jump ship. It was absolutely the right thing for H&M. They can do as they like and are not answerable to anyone. But the interest in William and Kate is practically non existent. The interest in Charles is primarily the cost of the coronation circus amid a cost of living crisis. It really is a shit show.

purpledalmation · 08/03/2023 12:48

I think he'll just ignore the whole thing. It's obvious H&M are making fools of themselves again.

What has Buckingham Palace said?

Buckingham Palace has said the royal website 'will now be updated in due course' to reflect the titles – making Lilibet a princess.

I’m late to this conversation by the look of it but i just found this. Apologies if it’s already been noted. I don’t believe much of what Daily Mail publishes is very true but for what it’s worth…

Coronateachingagain · 09/03/2023 02:19

Just see this news 😅😅 what planet do they leave in - and to go ahead and announce it too! 😂😂😂 will they find a way to claim the throne next 😅 oh the drama

vera99 · 08/03/2023 12:59

Well said as a true Royle would have said "Royal titles my arse ...".

Before he was King he was...

His Royal Highness Prince Charles Philip Arthur George, Prince of Wales, KG, KT, GCB, OM, AK, QSO, PC, ADC, Earl of Chester, Duke of Cornwall, Duke of Rothesay, Earl of Carrick, Baron of Renfrew, Lord of the Isles and Prince and Great Steward of Scotland.

@vera99 Greedy bugger / you’d think one title at a time would have been enough.

This is true: Harry and Meghan: love them or hate them - no other royal family member generates this amount of interest on an ongoing basis. It’s pretty much continuous.

mathanxiety · 09/03/2023 03:34

Eyerollcentral · 08/03/2023 23:43

So you can’t name any one who has been harassed after standing as god parent for any royal baby. Got it.

Can you honestly not see how the godparents would have their lives minutely examined, their friendship with the Sussexes turned inside out for the entertainment of the British public. There would be months of speculation.

Have you ever totted up the number of threads even here, on fairly rabidly anti Meghan but still fairly mild Mumsnet, and compared your total with the number of threads about Kate?

That should give you an indication of the level of prurient interest in everything associated with Harry and Meghan.

StartupRepair · 09/03/2023 03:50

Just for my sins read the whole thread and need to say...

  1. It is outrageously untrue and unfair to associate Philip with Nazis. As a 16 year old bereaved boy he attended the funeral of his sister and her family. He then fought bravely throughout WW2.
  2. Only the queen's most personal and intimate contemporaries used her nickname. Her lifelong friends, sister and cousins. Harry would never have used it to her face.
  3. Wonder if Harry was high at the christening?

I find the two of them an entertaining circus really . I read about their crass doings with fascinated horror. I don’t admire them at all. The RF in general is very dull indeed. I’m sure the PR people at the Palace are tearing their hair out that M and H are generating all the headlines.

It would have been an absolute disaster if M and H had continued to be working royals because they don’t have any of the qualities required to do the ‘job’. They’re light weights, all hot air and posturing with no real substance, no integrity and not much intelligence and absolutely no self awareness. The only people they are interested in serving are themselves.

The rest of the RF are pretty self serving too, but they do at least get on with things without making everything about themselves personally. They realise there is an exchange. They turn up at dull events, show interest and knowledge about the causes involved, and everyone benefits. No whinging and trumpeting on about personal issues. We live in a world though where style is king and substance is increasingly irrelevant, which is very disturbing.

StClare101 · 09/03/2023 04:54

I’m no fan of H&M as per my previous post on this thread and others, but I’m really not seeing why they should announce the godparents.

Lampzade · 09/03/2023 05:24

Harry and Meghan could fart and it would be a headline.
Whether you like them or not they have the X factor which is why there are so many threads about them. It is what it is
I am sure these Royal boards didn’t get this much traffic before Meghan and Harry got together
Some of their detractors practically live on this Royal Family board . For an ‘irrelevant’ couple they attract a lot of attention
Their detractors don’t realise that their obsession with Harry and Meghan actually elevates them and makes them appear more importantly than they actually are

Lampzade · 09/03/2023 05:27

BTW why are some posters so obsessed about finding out who their daughter’s Godparents are.?Mind your own business ffs.
Some of you are being ridiculous

Maireas · 09/03/2023 05:37

I read that Charles gave permission for both children to use the titles as an olive branch.
They're legally prince and princess anyway, but maybe Meghan and Harry will acknowledge the step.
Who knows.
The royal titles do confer status and prestige, even in the USA, I would suspect.

Oh I see.
I just thought it was weird, questioning the C of E credentials of William.

Oh dear - this was me! I obviously phrased it badly, sorry. Yes, a baptism is valid if water and the right words are used WHEREVER it takes place. What I was trying (and it seems failing) to say was that if you are making your child a member of the Church, you are expected to take said child to the church for the baptism.
Royals often "do their own thing" usually with a senior cleric.
Some clergy will also baptise a child in other places - it's their choice, extenuating circumstances maybe.

And I did NOT suggest Lilibet's baptism was "less than"!
