Drama between Eugenie/Jack and William/Kate

I missed this last year. Apparently Eugenie and Jack had wanted to love into Adelaide Cottage as their main British residence (they also live part-time in Portugal for Jack's work). But William and Kate successfully claimed Adelaide Cottage instead as their fourth or fifth house?
This apparently led to tension between the two families. Instead Jack and Eugenie live in Nottingham Cottage which has two bedrooms. They already have one child and Eugenie is pregnant. I am guessing this is why they wanted a slightly bigger house.

@vera99 its the biggest disappointment about Blair, that he didn’t come into No 10 on day one and abolish FPTP 😢.

I’ve made the same mistake on a few occasions, as I have different names for different topics or sensitive matters. It’s inevitable that mistakes happen. We are only human after all!

Sorry but I find changing names on the same thread and also within the same topic (which the 'confessing' poster appears to do) pretty dodgy. No wonder a lot of us are becoming more cynical about MN posters.

Totally disagree. Unless sock puppeting is reported, posters are free to do that. MN Mods can't be everywhere. The poster concerned was honest and said she'd made a mistake, if only others were like that. There's been a huge amount of sock puppeting on these threads over the years.

Yes and every time it happens (like here), there's a little bit less trust between posters. Perhaps the poster concerned should report themselves to MNHQ to have their own sock puppetry deleted?

But it seems to be an honest mistake. Perhaps in some instances it would be dodgy but I don’t think so here tbh.

Well I didn't and why would I as I was consistent as vera99 being a Republican anti-royalist over many months and then the same point of view as nilsoften. You're just looking for mud to throw and if I was mendaciously trying to make it look as if there were more of 'my side' on the thread why confess to it ? I only discovered the feature recently and I'm on an old-fashioned desktop.

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 03/03/2023 13:56

I don't give a toss if you're a Republican or a Monarchist, but if somebody posts on a thread with two different names I find it dodgy whatever the subject. I have no idea why you confessed, why you didn't just think whoops, I fucked that up, better be more careful next time. Stop blaming me for your fuck up.

Maybe I'm just honest ? Anyway, back to the topic in question... 😉

Now that would have been a lasting legacy, unlike the Iraq War. The problem is if you rise up through the party machine with a whopping majority, you're unlikely to throw away party advantage to other competing entities. If we had coalition governments not hijacked by right wing populist conservatism, I might be more minded to view a reformed monarchy in a gentler light. I can't see many Republicans amongst the Conservatives, and one strongly suspects the monarchy are natural Tories at heart.

Yes good point. There’s been a few articles recently claiming M was shocked at how little money H had. I find that a bit hard to believe when you consider what was spent on their home. Then again, it’s hard when someone else holds the purse strings. I know who someone who married into a very wealthy family and she got a shock when she realised her FIL was the one in charge.

I think, whilst in relative terms to us H seems very wealthy as he has £millions, M expected H to be worth 100s of million, not realising the lifestyle was mostly funded by daddy from the Duchy of Cornwall.

M would also have been surprised at some of the unwritten rules around conspicuous consumption e.g not buying lots of haute couture, not accepting gifts/freebies, having to think how the press (and public) will react to clothing budgets etc. Plus not realising she wasn’t going to live in a palace.

stillavid · 03/03/2023 14:47

I follow someone on insta - Emile someone who mostly comments on tennis but also the royals. She seemed pretty sure that the two royals who were appalled were Sarah and Eugenie - apparently Beatrice is more camp W&K - its the money ;)

stillavid · 03/03/2023 14:49

Just checked and it is emiliehrh on insta - guess that should have clued me in on her royal commentary ;)

Interestingly she is pretty critical of all the royals so not as partisan as many commentators like eholmes for example.

queenofarles · 03/03/2023 15:09

stillavid I follow her too , she’s quite balanced , and raised a lot of valid points about all Royals, not just H&M ,

anyways, I think Bea is close to Charles ,
and isn’t Eugenie eyeing a move to California ?

it boggles the mind , how they all have no plan and just aimlessly move around ,
surely they must have known for some time that once the Queen is gone , everything is gone with her too,
these "kids" are all in their 30s, and had no money worries ever , they could have easily bought a property each by now,

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 03/03/2023 15:57

Beatrice’s husband also comes from a noble family in Italy - given that his family know what it’s like to have titles abolished and how easy it can happen shes possibly a bit more conscious of the need to toe the line a bit more with her Uncle.

I also think the dress and tiara and the effort made by the Queen for her wedding suggests that she was particularly close to her Grandmother.

I don't think it's to do with Harry and Meghan getting evicted more that daddy Andrew isn't going to be in a 20 bedroom house anymore funded mostly by his brother. Is Sarah a royal any more?

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 03/03/2023 16:31

Frogmore Cottage isn’t exactly small so even if Andrew is being moved there it’s not going to stop him and Fergie having the grandkids to sleep over

Fhs @Sweetpeasaremadeforbees at 12.12 you literally criticised Vera99 for not being transparent and then you are getting at her above for confessing! You are being completely unreasonable and unfair. Vera99 was being very honest and open; why not have the grace to acknowledge that instead of doubling down?

To get back to the thread, fwiw, I think it is a huge mistake for Charles to take back Frogmore Cottage from H&M. I am sure it seemed like a simple solution to “solve” the H&M and Andrew problem in one go, but Harry is still his son, whatever has happened, and I think the optics are awful.

As head of the C of E, surely KC has heard of the parable of the prodigal son?

I hope this doesn’t happen, but if H&M were ever to split, Harry could be in a bad way mentally, and we can all see where that might go … . A very unwise move on KC’s part imho.

Maireas · 03/03/2023 17:31

@Zeroplucks202 - it doesn't mean that Harry would have nowhere to stay though.

No I know but it’s symbolic!

Maireas · 03/03/2023 17:42

I thought they'd taken the last of their belongings when they were here last?
Anyway. It's all a bit strange.
I just wonder why they thought there would be no consequences to the interviews/TV shows/book. Hubris.

Yes I’d forgotten about the belongings…

But if I had the riches available to KC, I would still keep a house available to my son. It’s not big by Royal Standards. I can’t imagine effectively saying to my child “you are no longer welcome here” whatever they had done in the past.

And I know this is for another thread, but if you actually read Spare, it bears very little resemblance to the book portrayed by the tabloid media.

Maireas · 03/03/2023 17:57

Yes, I've read Spare. No comment.
I just think that it's not necessary to hang on to Frogmore, but obviously others disagree..

HedwigIsMyDemon · 03/03/2023 18:13

@vera99 and I do get that he was elected with a massive majority - but he’s not a stupid man and he must have a good enough understanding of history to know it wasn’t going to last forever. I can’t understand why he didn’t see that it would soon swing back the other way and FPTP would have saved us the horror of the last 13 years of this hell of “government”. 😩

I agree. But it isn't going to happen, and them giving it up means IF Charles ever wants to see his son and/or Meghan and his GC, he will have to provide them with somewhere suitable to stay.

I also agree that it wouldn't be that hard to leave a property for them to use given the massive number of properties the Monarchy have access to/own/are part of Royal estates.

I also agree @Zeroplucks202 that the book bears no resemblance to the todger/Camilla/dogbowl soundbites that posters use on here continually. It really wasn't that bad to be honest.
