The royal family

Drama between Eugenie/Jack and William/Kate

I missed this last year. Apparently Eugenie and Jack had wanted to love into Adelaide Cottage as their main British residence (they also live part-time in Portugal for Jack's work). But William and Kate successfully claimed Adelaide Cottage instead as their fourth or fifth house?
This apparently led to tension between the two families. Instead Jack and Eugenie live in Nottingham Cottage which has two bedrooms. They already have one child and Eugenie is pregnant. I am guessing this is why they wanted a slightly bigger house.

I am no fan of Andrew but:
He was left Royal Lodge by the Queen Mum
He paid Crown Estate millions to extend the lease by 100 years
He spent several million of his own money refurbishing it.
Any rent is in addition to all of that.

StLevanBlackcaps · 01/03/2023 15:13

Well if she's publicly attacked for expecting a house paid for by the rest of us I don't think that would be unreasonable.

I'm sure the York sisters are very nice - although I agree that E seems rather full of herself lately - but I really resent them being entitled to anything at the taxpayers' expense.

AmandaJonah · 01/03/2023 15:14

@StLevanBlackcaps I would agree if that was extended to them all. But instead this just feels like a personal attack because she is friendly with Harry.

@AmandaJonah one might equally question why Eugenie is now so in favour with your gang, when I’m quite sure you would have previously cast her as a Hooray Henrietta who has married a Chinless Wonder with no discernible job and, unfortunately, is the offspring of a pompous sleazeball and a woman with the hide of ten rhinoceroses.

As a member of the gang as you so quaintly put it, perhaps I could answer?

I have never ever knocked B&E for the sins of their father. I think Beatrice was very foolish and misguided for co-ordinating the Maitlis interview for obvious reasons.
I've never thought of them as a Hooray whatever or criticised their choice of husbands. To be honest, I don't care one way or the other about them. I've found it interesting that Eugenie has kept in touch with H&M as I am sure that hasn't been easy for her, but apart from that, I really don't have much opinion on either of them.

It's all a bit pathetic isn't it, lots of Benefit Street vibes from this lot

its shocking that non working royals get to live in royal residences

That's pretty much all of them then. Could "working" be put in quotes ? Making small talk, being chauffeured around in snazzy limos and eating top-notch food washed down by the finest wines whilst getting free dosh from the government and advantageous tax breaks and endless houses and holidays doesn't seem like work to me. Giz us a job....

GoingOnce · 01/03/2023 16:08

I’m not anti monarchy but I really don’t see why Beatrice of Eugenie should have access to grace and favour residences. Can’t the Brooksbanks get a mortgage and buy a house like any other couple with a growing family? They both work

pilates · 01/03/2023 16:12

I wondered how long it would be before H’s name is dropped in the chat.
But anyway if Eugenie isn’t happy with what she’s got she can always buy her own property and then she doesn’t have to answer to anyone.

CathyorClaire · 01/03/2023 16:14

Are William and Kate after Royal Lodge?

Wills was reported to have been eyeing it up some months ago.

If Eugenie and Jack don't like whatever royal gaff they're given they could always move into the £5m mews house Fergie's just mysteriously found the cash for.

Totally agree. Both daughters and their spouses will be very wealthy, can't see what the problem is.

diddl · 01/03/2023 16:42

Perhaps Edward could rent out a few of his 100+ rooms?

BornBlonde · 01/03/2023 16:53

I do feel really frustrated that we have homeless people and families living in overcrowded properties.

Senior royals like KC & W&K have MULTIPLE homes each - it seems such a waste! Why on earth do E&S need a home with over 100 rooms? No idea how many rooms Royal Lodge is but guessing it's ridiculously large too

Beachbreak2411 · 01/03/2023 17:21

I have the tinniest violin playing. Poor poor family having to live in a million plus house without paying!

Same. They’re minor royals, no one needs them to be doing anything for the country. They seem pushy like their parents

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 01/03/2023 17:40

Oh dear, oh dear. The Royals can't agree about how their free, worth £millions houses are divided up amongst them. What a terrible shame. Not.

MarshaMelrose · 01/03/2023 17:41

Some royal palaces do rent out to the general public so have market rents. I'm sure St James does and I know Hampton Court does.
I'm pretty sure I read that royals had to pay the going rent but the Queen sometimes covered it out of her private money. I guess the king isn't going to be so generous.

They're never going to give the Royal Lodge to homeless people! 🙄

Wasn't it supposed to be Beatrice and Eugenie who bought that house for Sarah Ferguson?

The whole lot of them are a bunch of entitled twats.

We can vote them out at the next election .... oh wait a minute.

Thoughts and prayers.

Tiny violin. Perhaps anyone who is not happy with their free, fully-secure luxury property could just pay for a house themselves like the rest of us do?

This

Plitvice · 01/03/2023 18:23

Eugenie is just a drab version of Meghan without the arrogance and fibbing.
