She clearly is already the Queen. But officially after the Coronation she will be known as the Queen, not the Queen Consort.

I don’t think it matters whether you have offers (‘cracking’ or not!)

I think that poster wanted us to be impressed with her moral uprightness and how firm she is in the face of temptation.

BMW6 · 26/02/2023 20:00

Tactless??? How on earth do you reach that conclusion?

Exactly! 😁😂 I wasn't tempted but I was flattered.

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 26/02/2023 20:02

Nah, too soon. There’s only one Queen that deserved that title. She should be Queen consort.

Kranke · 26/02/2023 19:42

Errr? I didn’t say I didn’t like it? People who are supported by the state generally have duties to do too, looking for jobs etc, caring for their children or family members. NHS, Civil Servants, etc are employed by the state, but they also pay taxes and fees back into the system. They don’t generally get rent free accommodation, or are exempt from inheritance tax etc.

The King does pay tax. As does the Prince of Wales. He lives in Clarence House as the home of Head of State. Same as Rushi Sunak lives in Downing Street, or President Biden lives at the White House. But he owns his own home, bought with his own money. And he prefers living there but unfortunately he can't because of the business of state.

She IS queen consort. She'll just be known as the queen. And the title queen belongs to the wife of a king, whether that's UK or anywhere else.

Oh jolly well done you. Not many people would be as strong. What an example you are to resist such tributes to your desirability.

we don’t think like that about Diana any more. She’s not a saint, she’s an unfortunate mentally ill woman who ended up in a bad situation but it wasn’t Camilla’s fault. If anything I blame the Queen.

At the time it was reported that the Duke of Edinburgh told Charles "you've been seen around with this young girl many times, people talk, if you don't propose marriage now you will have sullied her reputation". An unbelievable 19th century attitude!
So Charles did as he was told....

She IS Queen Consort. Only women who are queens in their own right: QE I & II, Victoria, Anne, Marys I & II, Jane, Mathilda (in her mind) are Queen Regnant. They just don't use the word Consort because it's a mouthful.

I didn’t say it wasn’t destructive. I would like to know how adultery is different for a man or a woman though? Surely cheating is cheating? The royals seem to be doing it more than the average Joe!

I don’t think it matters whether you have offers (‘cracking’ or not!). Why would it be different just because you have different genitalia? If you cheat on your partner, surely that’s cheating?

A child/children born from your mother's adulterous liaison will usually be raised alongside the children from the marriage. This can drastically change the dynamic of relationships within the family home. Any children born out of your father's adultery will usually be raised elsewhere by their mother and you may never even see them let alone know them.

God, some people just don’t get it, so they? Having a monarchy means you get whoever’s next in line plus their choice of spouse. It’s not an election, a popularity context, a democratic process. If it hadn’t been for Wallis Simpson, you’d have had a Nazi sympathiser and notorious racist on the throne for a lot longer than 320 days (or whatever it was).

Remagirl · 26/02/2023 20:11

Who actually cares. I'm so over royalty that they can call themselves whatever they wish.

Don't talk nonsense the Queen herself announced it. All Queen Consorts are called Queen (name)

Wrong - Queen Elizabeth said she would be known as 'Queen Consort' - here is her message to that effect:

Why don't you do a simple Google to check your facts before rudely accusing others of 'talking nonsense' @SeasonFinale ?

We'd still have got Liz, though. Just not till 1972.

DappledThings · 26/02/2023 20:14

Is it because people think the word consort is somehow belittling? Are they getting it mixed up with concubine? Do they think that Camilla was given the title Queen Consort and it was unique to her to try and keep her in her place?

Because all of that is of course absurd but it's the only reason I can think of that explains why anyone thinks that she isn't already Queen Camilla or that any of this matters.

And that has now changed. She wants to be known as the queen. It doesn't change that she's the wife of the king, not monarch in her own right. 'The Queen' isn't a title reserved for the late queen, any more than Princess of Wales applied exclusively to Diana.

Bloody hell, what is so difficult here?

IntentionalError · 26/02/2023 20:18

Novella4 · 26/02/2023 19:30

You profoundly misunderstand

This has nothing to do with history and sins of monarchy past ( btw - THAT is your defence? Charles is no worse than other awful kings?)

Camilla and Chalres tortured Diana . We all know about it . We have the receipts .
Charles and Camilla lied and cheated . Neither are of good character . Charles even lied in the Dimbleby interview . He claimed he and Camilla were just 'good friends'

Populations past accepted what they were told .
People have made up their Malinda re Camilla . If you are a benighted royalist you'll bend the knee regardless
Many more say they respirated the queen but they are finished with monarchy now

Diana died tragically and she was young and beautiful . The sight of Camilla and Charles on their gilt thrones with their blood diamond crowns will not be the PR coup the palace thinks it will be

🤣 You OK, hun?

Maybe it's different in Scotland. I think Mary was therir first Queen. I know he and his father tried to force her into making him a full king so he could have the throne on her death. Instead he mysteriously was murdered. Well, Mary was a Tudor. She knew how to deal with unwanted spouses!!

I don't think that it is so much that it is or was different in Scotland as it is a matter of particular circumstances. Queen Victoria wanted Albert to be king consort, but in the face of substantial opposition, she had to settle for Prince Consort.

It will be interesting to see whether with so many queens regnant on the horizon all over Europe and with more emphasis on equality, there might one day be kings consort in Belgium, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, and Spain.

I'm sure people think that consort denotes exactly that; when all it actually means is spouse.

Yes, and she is known as Queen Consort. And Queen Consort is also what the wives of all our Kings have been. Which is also Queen [NAME]. It wasn't a proclamation that she would never be Queen Camilla, it was confirming she would be Queen. Queen Camilla or Queen Consort. It's all the same thing. The change that message announced was that she would have a Queen title which I think wasn't guaranteed given the circumstances. But Queen she is and Queen she was announced she would be even in that message.

Inheritance tax was paid when his dad died.
