She clearly is already the Queen. But officially after the Coronation she will be known as the Queen, not the Queen Consort.

I am now veering towards feeling sorry for Harry in all of this. He mentioned the men in grey suits controlling the Queen in her last days. I wonder if Charles' office put her under pressure to elevate Camilla in this way?

Harry can't get over that the Queen didn't agree with how he saw Megxit happening. He can't accept that she wouldn't agree to her favourite grandchild, as he thinks of himself, getting his own way. So just like he always does, he fires off at everybody else in a spiteful, self-absorbed way. The Queen had a phone. She had Harry's phone number. If she'd wanted to call him, she would have done. She just didn't want to listen to him going on and on. So he told himself it was other people stopping her. He's deluded.

She is a bad role model. It communicates to society that deceit and adultery pays as it leads to power, wealth and even respect.
I know that many people commit adultery these days (even in my own family) so the king is a suitable match for his subjects but couldn't they at least try to break the cycle?

Well, in that vein, the royal family teaches that you don’t need to work, you’re supported by the state, but still have a position of power and some people adore you. Looking back, I would adultery is very common for a monarch, almost a pre-requisite (Henry VIII for one). But maybe it doesn’t matter if it’s just the man that’s a cheat?

Redglitter · 26/02/2023 19:15

She can call herself what she wants, she is the spouse of the monarch, not a "queen" however

Wife of the monarch is pretty much the definition of Queen 🙄

PillBoxes · 26/02/2023 19:16

When people say "Charles will make a good king" I often wonder what that means?

He is already king, they just forgot the crown and the oil I think.

Go and find a brick wall and bang your head against it. You might make some impression on it, because you, along with me and all the other people pointing that out certainly aren't making any impression here. Despite it being the umpteenth thread about this very issue since September 2022.

He's only just king. I mean it going forward into the future, over the length of his reign.
He's been Prince Charles all my life so I haven't fully adjusted to calling him king yet. 😆

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 26/02/2023 19:24

Of course she will. Because she IS the Queen. She's a very nice woman who has proved herself to be well suited to the role.

Adultery is different depending upon whether you are male or female. but
It is selfish and destructive for children regardless of who commits it. I have had some cracking offers over the years but I would never go there based on what I know.

I will never endorse it or excuse it in others. My opinions may change in the next few decades but I doubt it.

I know what you mean, I was being a bit tongue in cheek.

However.... he has been a lifelong Apprentice, so should hit the ground running at this stage. Well an age appropriate gallop anyway.

I have no idea why anyone would even consider this an issue. We have had Kings for centuries, and their wives have been Queens. It really is entirely unremarkable, and someone would have to be spectacularly historically ignorant to need this explaining to them.

You profoundly misunderstand

This has nothing to do with history and sins of monarchy past ( btw - THAT is your defence? Charles is no worse than other awful kings?)

Camilla and Chalres tortured Diana . We all know about it . We have the receipts .
Charles and Camilla lied and cheated . Neither are of good character . Charles even lied in the Dimbleby interview . He claimed he and Camilla were just 'good friends'

Populations past accepted what they were told .
People have made up their Malinda re Camilla . If you are a benighted royalist you'll bend the knee regardless
Many more say they respirated the queen but they are finished with monarchy now

Diana died tragically and she was young and beautiful . The sight of Camilla and Charles on their gilt thrones with their blood diamond crowns will not be the PR coup the palace thinks it will be

AmandaJonah · 26/02/2023 19:31

She is the Queen.
Yes they lied saying she would never be called Queen, but what's new. They lie to the public all the time.
But she us Queen. It is the correct title. Even though Queen Elizabeth refused to go to their wedding.

The monarch works. He is head of state and has set duties. You might not like having a king as head of state but it doesn't mean he doesn't work.
Aren't the entire civil service, NHS, council workers, employees in education, etc, all supported by the state?
It's not Charles' fault if people adore him. And I don't understand why anyone would have a problem with that anyway. Isn't more love and less hate a good thing?

Novella4 · 26/02/2023 19:32

Respected not respirated the queen - unfortunate typo

They didn't lie. It was stated as an intention at the time. Intentions can change.

And the late Queen did go to the blessing of their marriage in church.

MarshaMelrose · 26/02/2023 19:37

Well, yeah, in your world.

Will she be the last Queen of Britain though?

We can but hope. Time the entire lot were ‘retired’ and made to pay their own way. After Charles and Camilla, I really can’t think of anything worse that King William & Queen Catherine.

Errr? I didn’t say I didn’t like it? People who are supported by the state generally have duties to do too, looking for jobs etc, caring for their children or family members. NHS, Civil Servants, etc are employed by the state, but they also pay taxes and fees back into the system. They don’t generally get rent free accommodation, or are exempt from inheritance tax etc.

SenecaFallsRedux · 26/02/2023 19:44

Also apropos of the earlier discussion about male consorts not being King, why is Scotland always forgotten?

Henry, Lord Darnley, the husband of Mary Queen of Scots was King consort of Scotland.

Who thinks this? I’m not a royalist at all but I’ve always respected Charles’s political and social work and I’d rather have someone like that in the position of King. Camilla likewise has quietly dealt with everything that’s been chucked at her for my whole life, while opening factories, appearing at things and doing a job she probably doesn’t want to do. I’m in my mid thirties and we don’t think like that about Diana any more. She’s not a saint, she’s an unfortunate mentally ill woman who ended up in a bad situation but it wasn’t Camilla’s fault. If anything I blame the Queen.

I didn’t say it wasn’t destructive. I would like to know how adultery is different for a man or a woman though? Surely cheating is cheating? The royals seem to be doing it more than the average Joe!

I don’t think it matters whether you have offers (‘cracking’ or not!). Why would it be different just because you have different genitalia? If you cheat on your partner, surely that’s cheating?

LaMarschallin · 26/02/2023 19:48

Regardless of whether people support the monarchy or not, or like H&M but not W&K, or vice versa, or think Diana should still somehow be queen, or whatever...
Why is the concept of the woman who's married to the king being queen so difficult to grasp?
This has been explained so many times with so many examples.
Obviously, she won't be queen in StaunchMomma's house, which I understand is to be declared an independent Princessipality, but apart from that she's queen.

Maybe it's different in Scotland. I think Mary was therir first Queen. I know he and his father tried to force her into making him a full king so he could have the throne on her death. Instead he mysteriously was murdered. Well, Mary was a Tudor. She knew how to deal with unwanted spouses!!

purpledalmation · 26/02/2023 19:57

It's easier to say. Not much more to add than that. Sensible.

Everyonesinvited · 26/02/2023 19:57

It's tactless.
