Just that! The children have married really well!

Pippa has married very well - she’s got a billionaire husband with in-laws that own seriously gorgeous property in Scotland and abroad.

James looks like he’s married very well for his lifestyle and personality - I guess he’ll be left the bulk of his parents business assets as his two sisters are unlikely to need it.

None of them are ‘posh posh’

Whether it's "well" or not depends on how she is treated. Whether they are decent people. Whether she has autonomy and respect. None of us can no that.

I want my children to marry (if they wish to marry at all) equal partners not wealthy people

PaediaSureShake · 13/02/2023 19:12

Give over. They're self-made lower middle class people who spotted a gap in the market for tat (though good for them).

If they're lower middle class then I have a lonnng way to go before I reach the lofty heights of peasant!

Explodingatomickittens · 13/02/2023 19:29

MaverickGooseGoose · 13/02/2023 18:14

They are firmly middle class and had big aspirations.

@MaverickGooseGoose I think most people have some aspiration, how did the Middleton's do it though?!

is this off the back of Pip in her scanties in the daily mail today?

Missed that, off to Google!

I think rich rather than posh.

Pippa has done rather well. Assuming she’s happily married, she’s as rich as Croesus and doesn’t have to live in a gilded cage like poor old Kate. And yes, I saw pics of her on the beach looking amazing in her red bikini.

Greenfairydust · 13/02/2023 19:38

Not posh at all. But does it really matter?

3WildOnes · 13/02/2023 19:42

UMC. There was a trust fund from their fathers side set up to pay for their education. Carole middleton isn't UMC but her husband and children are.

TiaraBoo · 13/02/2023 19:42

I thought Michael Middleton was related to a Baron and other aristocracy, so that’s definitely not lower middle class! Must be Upper middle class. He is also not ‘new money’, I’m sure I read that he’d inherited a lot money.

When I used to take my kids to Buckleberry Farm I’d always wonder where they lived!

They shop in the local Waitrose.

There are very few posh people in my local Waitrose, there's just no other supermarket close by! Grin

Mysterian · 13/02/2023 19:51

There's a Co-op in the town too!

For actually posh people I would assume they aren’t posh at all. The other pupils at their school used to make fun of their mother’s job, for example.

Kate was very young when carol started party pieces so I can't see why kids at senior school would tease Kate about carols earlier job. Kids at junior school wouldn't have a scoobie

Plitvice · 13/02/2023 19:54

Carole is obviously as common as muck but married somebody middle class. I haven't seen enough evidence to believe that Michael was anything above middle-middle class.
Kate then married up as well which dragged everyone else to the next level.
She mixes quite well with the upper classes but she is sort-of undefined now, as is Pippa. Could I suggest lower-upper-class?

anon666 · 13/02/2023 18:56

Mixed. Very posh/titled on the dad's side. Less so on the mum's side. But firmly upper middle class anyway.

The thing about the royals is they sit atop A set of titles, and traditionally would have to have married someone from a titled family (Duke of X, Earl of X etc)

Michael Middleton is hardly from a titled family. There is some distant relative who was a baroness but then most of us have some distant relative with a title.
Michael went to a minor private school and became a flight dispatcher. Not exactly posh but any stretch. He is only posh when compared to carol whose family were very working class.

journeyofinsanity · 13/02/2023 19:57

@SweetSakura why don't you want your dc to marry wealthy people. You do realise that kindness and loving can coexist with great wealth

Plitvice · 13/02/2023 20:07

The Middletons were sophisticated enough to know how to behave in public and behave graciously. Not everyone who marries into the RF manages it. That is why Kate was appreciated a lot more and her apparent status was re evaluated.

RoseBucket · 13/02/2023 20:08

Small world with Prince Philip and her Grandfather Peter who were co-pilots and friends. He also had a governess in comparison to my factory worker relatives of the same age their history appears very middle class.

I can’t see any reason to ever make fun of anyone for any aspect of their parents’ status but then I’m not at all posh.
It was widely reported that Kate was known as doors to manual because of her mother’s previous job. Obviously that doesn’t mean that it’s true, but it’s been reported many times.

HeddaGarbled · 13/02/2023 20:09

I used Party Pieces products when my children were little and they weren’t “tat”. They were far superior to what was available on the high street (Woolworths etc) at the time.

I do. I just mean it's not an aspiration. My hope is any partnership will be a partnership of equals. I have spent lots of time with wealthy/aristocratic people. I know it doesn't guarantee happiness. I meant many arrogant, nasty misogynistic types. And some pleasant ones. I know women with very little say over their own lives

SweetSakura · 13/02/2023 20:11

*met not meant

AreBearsCatholic · 13/02/2023 20:15

piedbeauty · 13/02/2023 19:15

That says more about the other people than it does about Carol Middleton, though.

Well yes, anyone who would make a joke like that is a complete cunt.
But can the family be considered upper class if the upper class consider them the opposite? Who decides?

LadyHarmby · 13/02/2023 20:16

The idea is meant to be that you do better for your children than your parents did for you.

So the parents are middle class but managed to make their children upper middle class. The grandchildren are royalty. So they jumped a few levels there 😆

DobbyTheHouseElk · 13/02/2023 20:18

They can’t be posh posh if they work. Proper Posh people don’t work. They just have money handed down through the generations and crumbling old country piles falling down around their ears.

The Middletons are “new money” and rich. Totes different darling.
