Just that! The children have married really well!

Posh does not equate to rich! I am middle class, generations of us and "married down" 😂 as my grandmother pointed out 😏.

Many of my family shop anywhere Waitrose, Aldi, Lidl local high street except they dont general wear Primark etc (think Country clothing).

Middleton parents are only just middle class but worked hard and did well (new money 😉). Their children networked due to the schooling and obviously Kate is one massive social class lift up aiding the rest. The whole British class system is weird. We really shouldn't care. Some of the most foul people are upper class, I'd rather be surrounded by normal, grass roots realists.

@Roussette - when one of them marries Prince Louis, come back on here with all the gossip 😉

I'll be back 😅

I used Party Pieces products when my children were little and they weren’t “tat”. They were far superior to what was available on the high street (Woolworths etc) at the time.

I used them also. I found that the quality for the price was really pretty good. And they did lovely bespoke banners that I used for all sorts of things - birthdays- a wedding- etc.

Some of the most foul people are upper class

Most aristocracy have the morals of alleycats.

This is where the Middletons differ. They are upper middle class with the money and contacts to mix with aristocracy but they seem to have high moral standards which are more synonymous with the middle classes.

AreBearsCatholic · 13/02/2023 18:47

For actually posh people I would assume they aren’t posh at all. The other pupils at their school used to make fun of their mother’s job, for example.

Says more about those children, than about the Middletown's.

purpledalmation · 14/02/2023 09:06

That was a weird autocorrect. Middletons 😂

'Most of us have some distant relative with a title.'

Do you actually believe that?! 😆

Apparently we are all descended from Charlemagne.

But have they been fully accepted now in uc society? If I remember correctly Pippa's circle in Edinburgh uni was supposed to be even posher than Kate's (which included the future king!)

The whole family does not necessarily have to belong to the same class grouping. It is obvious that Carole is an absolute mensch and she did a beautiful job of raising her kids to jump not one - but possibly- several class levels upwards. It is almost unbelievable if you consider that her mother was a cleaner.

She did it in a really cool way as well. No ghosting family members because you suddenly think you are better than them. Uncle Gary is still a passionate defender of Kate. No silly names (which her daughters have also followed through with).

Jesus .

This sort of thinking ( that the Middletons are to be admired because they succeeded in marrying in ) explains why the UK is failing

It's not just Brexit ( though that is linked to the the ridiculous fallacy that the UK is somehow 'superior') it is the dead hand of a rigid class system

We have a head of state ( 'king') who is showered with money and power ( yes Windsors add loopholes to laws which apply on to Windsors - v political ) and it is all unearned .
Purely a matter of chance .
They do nothing , add nothing to the greater good . Kate is silent - her only value is her ( must be thinnest ever !) appearance . Shallow .

All of this has a deafening effect on growth and ingenuity .
Removing them from head of state will revitalise our society

You can still have your king for those who like the taste of shoe leather . You can fund him .

What a nasty thing to write about somebody you have never even met. Shallow too, I might add.
Monarchy or not, There is nothing wrong with approving people who are courteous and well mannered and respectful and make long term commitments to relationships.
People like Harry, Meghan and their fans such as yourself would produce a much more inferior outcome

  • but I suppose you would all get to have "your say" while running the country down the pan.

I agree. I am shocked that in an era where so many have a university education/ access to books/the ability to travel, that there are still people who blindly worship inherited wealth and status (or wealth full stop for that matter).

Luckydip1 · 14/02/2023 10:51

For those that complain that there is no social mobility in the UK, you only need to look at the Middletons for a masterclass in how it can be done.

Yes Carole & Michael gave the dc very common, grounded names that could belong to any class.

I think the Middletons are fascinating because despite the doors that were open to them because of their financial situation (which was a combination of good luck with the inheritances and clearly a lot of hard work and strategic planning with their business) they had to navigate the addition of a regular middle class family into the royal family arena.

I’m not sure there has been a previous spouse to a direct heir (in the UK) who has come from a family with absolutely no connection or experience of the royals/aristocratic circles.

I remember at Kate and William’s wedding that when they sang God Save The Queen the cameras panned and focused in close on Carol and Michael singing directly to the Queen’ face just yards away from them. What a bizarre situation to find yourself in.

They have nerves of steel - I wonder if Carol took a Valium before that service!

I don’t admire them because they ‘married up’ via Kate - I admire how composed and dignified they’ve managed to stay for decades now with so much gossip and horrible things written about their family in the papers. And terrible things written about their daughter by trolls on social media.

Comedycook · 14/02/2023 14:21

I think there's a trend in society that the most badly behaved people are from the aristocracy and the underclass. Both have nothing to prove and nothing to lose. The middle classes tend to be much more well behaved. I think the Middletons display that very typical middle class trait. They have behaved impeccably. Kate is lucky to have them as her family and the royal family are incredibly lucky that William married Kate.

Alexandernevermind · 14/02/2023 14:22

I love how this turns into a snobbish "give over, she was an air steward" type thread with side arguments 🤣🤣.
You have to admire Nouvs, as my faux posh friends would have called them in the 90s!

it's actually the Cholmondeley-Smythe-Calthorpe-Fitzroy scale.

Hbh17 · 14/02/2023 15:31

I believe that a truly upper class person would say "smart" - never "posh".
The Middletons are firmly middle class, and to be admired for having done well as a result of their hard work. But they are not "smart" - not aristocracy/landed/old money.

What, buying and marrying your way to the top (the top being an unelected bunch of leaders who believe they were put on earth by God to rule over us plebs)?

Wow how inspiring.

Ohnonevermind · 14/02/2023 16:57

I admire them. Having two kids with adhd diagnoses myself I’m glad that their son has given some really good open interviews about being diagnosed with adhd and the depression he suffered too before his diagnosis.

Many families in their in their situation would have kept quiet about a diagnosis so I admire their openness.
