"Kate's Rebranding Masterclass May Finally See off Meghan"

"Five months since she moved up to the second tier of the monarchy, the Princess has started beefing up her top team to make sure she succeeds not only with her “life’s work” on child development, but also with the task of besting Meghan Markle."

Why does Meghan have to look bad for Kate to look good? Why does Meghan need to be bested or seen off? Why is it a competition?

The whole business is baffling toss

Not saying kate didn't look good, but before Meghan she was not stylish, what with the frou frou coat dresses and whatnot. Post Meghan she's morphed into clean lines, trouser suits and bold choices. Glossy hair, etc etc. She's copying Meghan's taste, she needs to find her own.

People who make comments like this make me think they don’t have the foggiest idea what Kate wore and looked like before 2017. She apparently didn’t have glossy hair before Meghan appeared in her life?? Here’s an article from 2010 giving tips on how to get glossy hair like Kate’s:

www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/how-to-get-glossy-hair-like-kate-265884

And Kate absolutely wore trousers and clean lines before 2017. For several years after her marriage her she wore large numbers of sheath dresses in neutral colours, and her uniform for less formal engagements was a blazer, a simple top underneath it and skinny trousers/jeans. All photos below are well pre-Meghan.

Also, revolutionary concept I know, but fashions for workwear have also changed in the last decade. I used to wear a lot of skirts to work, but haven’t for a few years now as tailored trousers and trouser suits have become the norm. I don’t think Meghan single-handedly caused that shift, you know! 🤣🤣

The article is ridiculous, and pitting two women against each other when one of them left years ago and there is no connection now.

Sadly (and this won't go down well), I think shoehorning Meghan in makes the article more interesting for readers... typical clickbait. I just think maybe not enough readers would click on the article without the comparison to Meghan and the dramatic headlines.

However... I do want to say here. It is encouraging to see that Kate has appointed a very different Private Secretary. Not your usual civil servant (honestly... the amount of Palace staff who flit between being Government Special Advisers and Palace aides is ridiculous!).

This woman is from outside that incestuous set up... she is from the private sector, was involved with Jamie Oliver's free school meals thing and was Branding Manager for Virgin, and will bring a very different talent to the Palace.
This is a good thing. I hope it works.
However, it is unusual and god knows how the normal aides and courtiers will cope with someone from outside, and a bit of a ball breaker at that. I am having a deja vu moment and thinking of Meghan coming into that set up! I hope (against all hope) that it works and the new Private Secretary can grab this Early Years thing and make it matter, and if so it will be the start of some modernisation of the royal family.

(p.s. Talking of Virgin... is it just me... but does anyone else LOVE the Virgin Atlantic "I am what I am" TV advert? It sends shivers up my spine!)
Sorry to derail @MrsMaxDeWinter Smile I'm having another Dolly moment lol.

Here’s some of Kate’s uniform of pencil/sheath dresses in too (she has many, many more…lots of griege ones and at least three different bright blue ones). I have a lot of these style of dresses hanging in my own wardrobe that I no longer wear to work as they just aren’t in fashion these days….

Actually Roussette, I think quite a lot of it has to do with the fact that trouser suits look better when paired with smart trainers than pencil dresses do! 🤣

Roussette · 09/02/2023 09:06

You're on to something there! I have however, always loved pencil dresses, sheath dresses type style, it suits my figure... I look seriously awful in A line and have just sold two new A line dresses with labels still in, on Vinted!

They really suit her though. I’d wear them tbh as it can be a good shape for some

I have never bought from there but it is soooo easy to sell on there. No commission etc. Buyer pays the postage, you just print out a label and voila!

“She's copying Meghan's taste, she needs to find her own.”

Why say that?

They are both attractive women in their own right who look good. Who wouldn’t with all their contacts and money.

@ancientgran
You could always go to bed. If your tired - if it's boredom then skip on to the next post, I won't take offence

I don't think that's what I said as she seems to wear similar style to Meghan. I suppose who has the better figure for it is subjective isn't it?. I would say Meghan jn the same way you would say Kate. So it's neither here nor there.

My point is I think they used that picture purposely to draw comparisons but you and a few other posters seem to think it's just a coincidence.

No just yawning at such a silly comment. The trouser suits weren't the same style, Meghans was a more relaxed style and Catherine's was tailored they just happened to be the same colour and again do you think they can't ever wear the same colour? Maybe a mediator needs to allocate them colours, one can have red or green the other can have blue or yellow, would that work?

The thing about styles is some suit one figure and some suit another, originally I had only seen Catherine's photo and that style suits her, Meghan chose a style that suited her. Amazing how women can work these things out isn't it.

Serenster · 09/02/2023 09:41

Thank you both, I will go and check it out…😀

That's the point isn't it, it isn't that one style is better than another but one suits a particular figure and the other suits another figure. Apart from that sometimes people just like a style that might not be ideal for their figure but if they feel good in it then good for them.

Serenster · 09/02/2023 10:00

I also think the comparison is so silly, because nobody “owns” the concept of a red suit as their personal style. Monochromatic impact dressing is a look that is popular generally - here are the Queens of Spain and the Netherlands respectively, both before either of the UK Duchesses wore their respective outfits. And any number of celebrities. The whole thing is ridiculous.

I think the newspapers angle is to point out that kate is now using marketing and PR techniques in the same way Meghan has done in the past to good effect.

Basically upping the game and kate's image instead of just sticking to the boring old ways normally used by the palace.

It's really an acknowledgment that Meghan had the right idea in improving and promoting her image.

RainyDaysareCarp · 09/02/2023 10:17

MrsMaxDeWinter · 08/02/2023 14:30

I don't think it's intended that way but this makes it look as though Meghan is the standard, which is quite embarrassing for Kate given that Kate was in the family for more than 10 years before Meghan joined, Meghan was there for all of 24 months, and, more importantly, as you say, she has left.

OFGS really? Kate's "rebranding" is a combination of her new title and all the public work that that involves in combination with the greater time availability now that her children are older. It really is nothing to do with M.

PreparationPreparationPrep · 09/02/2023 10:19

@ancientgran

I don't know if you are purposely acting dim - but my question was are the papers drawing a comparism? You could have just said No - you don't agree - it's a coincidence as the suits are not identical - I guess you are saying No but then adding a silly question to say I said they can't wear the same clothes - please point me to that if I did -

Seeing as you asked - no I can't stand it and what? It ends up with a woman pilot - how shocking and different 🙄

They are members of the Royal Family.

They left the UK, and are no longer "working royals". But I believe Harry and his children remain in the Line of Succession, his father is king, so they are still part of the Royal Family. They just don't work for the Family any more.

A couple of spongers then trading on the family they despise.

What a funny article that is OP.

It kind of reminds me of the Catherine the Great article. It was meant to be a hit job on MM, but backfired. The out of touch courtiers, probably gave it the thumbs up without much thought. 😂

So many wrong things about it. I think the 'royal editor' at the Torygraph is away on holiday, what with the 'Andrew is cleared' article and all.

I think the article was supposed to highlight that the new person used to work with Labour, making a change for the 'non political royals'. Except it didn't mention that. Instead it reminded us that Simon Case moved to the palace from the Tories gov when H&M got married, then moved back when they left - job done. Then also highlighted another Tory minion(Christian Guy) in the KP camp.

I'll give them credit for not using tory owned YouGov stats though. lol

The last major showing in the UK that MM had was in Manchester with a red trouser suit. So, there's that. Thought KM was famed for her coat dresses and buttons.

No wonder posters don't know what her project is. It's one project she had for over a decade re-branded, renamed again. Almost a decade to ask 5 questions that parents have been asked for years - not even sure what that achieved or changed.

Then you have lines like this :
The same source says that while the Princess “comes across as a warm and gentle character” she is “at her core” a woman with a steely determination, as well as being deeply aware of the power and potential that comes with her elevated position.
“She is extremely strategic and methodical, and she takes her work very seriously,” says the source.

and

At the age of 41, the Princess is launching her big idea rather later in life than Prince Harry or the King, who were both in their twenties when they set up Invictus and the Prince’s Trust respectively,

I think this article comes on the back of charities reportedly being dissatisfied with how little impact KM has on her charities.

So KM hired a woman from Croydon - which despite having a big black community, she just couldn't bring herself to hire a person of colour. That is as far as they will go. What a joke of an establishment.

Baby steps, baby steps 😅
